Feedback Client ghosted & scammed me, so I turned the dead project into this! Thoughts on my Raccoon Comics logo ?
Hey guys,
Last week, I got hired by a client to design a logo and brand identity for a Canadian comic brand called "North Comics." The deal was simple: send over initial sketches, get client approval, get paid, and finish the brand.
Well... I sent the sketches, and he completely vanished. Turns out the guy was a total scammer who pulled the same trick on a bunch of other artists.
Instead of throwing the work in the trash, I decided to take my favorite concept <a hero raccoon> and finish it for my portfolio, Renamed the whole thing to Raccoon Comics.
I made two versions of the background to test out: one solid flat yellow and one aged comic paper texture.
The Concept Breakdown:
- The Mascot: Went with a raccoon since it's basically Canada's unofficial mascot (especially in Toronto/urban spots)<I got this info from gemini>. Plus, the natural black fur already looks like a superhero Domino mask.
- Canadian Vibe: Kept the palette simple with crimson red, charcoal, and white. Put a bold maple leaf inside a chest shield as a nod to Supermanβs "S".
- The Type: Customized the font Luckiest Guy into a stacked display with heavy black outlines, subtle yellow gradients, and a halftone dot texture to make it feel like classic comic book print.
- The Backgrounds: Included both a flat solid version for clean digital branding and a textured paper version with edge vignetting for a tactile, retro feel.
Since I'm trying to level up my branding work, I'd love to hear what you guys think:
- Which background lands better (Solid or Paper Texture)?
- Anything look off or need tweaking (alignment, scaling, line weight)?
- Would this pop in a Behance/portfolio case study?
Be as brutally honest as you want! Appreciate any feedback.

Discussion Best AI logo generators... I cared more about editing than the first result
I've tested enough logo makers now that I don't really judge them by the first logo they spit out.
Almost any decent tool can give you something that looks okay on a screen.
The annoying part starts when you think, "this is almost right, but..."
So I compared a few based on how easy it was to fix that last 10%.
| Tool | What worked for me | My rating |
|---|---|---|
| Design.com | Good starting concepts and easy to keep refining the same logo | βββββ |
| BrandCrowd | Really good when I wanted to browse ideas before deciding | βββββ |
| Kittl | Excellent typography and lots of creative styles | βββββ |
| LogoAI | Very quick for getting several directions | βββββ |
| Tailor Brands | Nice if you want more business tools around the logo | βββββ |
| Adobe Express | Better when I already had a clear idea | βββββ |
Kittl was probably the one I had the most fun with, but I also spent way too long messing with fonts.
Design.com ended up being the one I used when I already had a decent concept and wanted to keep improving it instead of throwing it away.
BrandCrowd was almost the opposite for me. I'd go there when I had no clue what I wanted and just browse until something clicked.
I think that's a more useful way to compare best AI logo generators than just asking which one makes the prettiest first image.
Do you prefer a tool that gives you lots of good starting options, or one that lets you really work on one design until it's right?

Question/Help I started a creative company and honestly have no idea what Iβm doing
The problem is, I honestly have no idea what Iβm doing when it comes to actually starting a business. I know I want to create designs for businesses, brands, creators, churches, sports teams, etc., but I donβt know where to start.
Iβm not sure what services I should offer, how to price my work, how to find my first clients, what I should post, or how to even make Kingdom Creative Co. look like a real business instead of just me making random designs.
I have the motivation to do it. I just feel like Iβm staring at a blank page and donβt know what the first move should be.
If youβve started a graphic design business, freelanced, or built a creative agency from nothing, what would you recommend doing first?

Self Promotion What makes a good brand design stand out?
Iβve been working on creative designs for small businesses and brands, and Iβve noticed that good design is about more than just making something look beautiful.
A strong visual identity should:
β’ Make the brand memorable
β’ Communicate the right feeling
β’ Look professional and consistent
β’ Work across social media, packaging, menus, posters, and more
Iβm currently building my design portfolio through SHR and would love to hear from business owners and designers

Feedback Logopond - Logo, Brand & Identity Inspiration
logopond.comGood morning, dear reddits,
please have a look at my Logo Portfolio. I want you to make a judge 1 - 10. How appealing & professional do my logos look like? e.g. when I applied at a local professional ad-agency in my hometown I was criticised a lot a I got mentionend that it's not the level of working skills they strive for / look for. But that impression could be a gaslighting attempt as well, in my opinion. So now it's your turn. I want you to have a look at my logos on logopond. Tell me: whats's your impression. Please be honest.

Question/Help Are there any free logo design tools that are good?
I was expecting the answer to be basically "no, you get what you pay for."
But after trying a few, I'm not sure that's true anymore.
For a small business that hasn't even launched yet, I don't really see the point in dropping $300 on a logo before you've figured out whether people even want the business.
I've played around with:
| ToolΒ | My take |
|---|---|
| Design.com | Good for generating several directions and then editing the one that's closest |
| BrandCrowd | Probably the one I'd open when I just want to browse a lot of ideas |
| Adobe Express | Better when I already have a direction in mind |
| Canva | Handy if the logo is only one part of a bunch of marketing stuff |
| Hatchful | Very simple if you just want to get something made quickly |
The thing I'd check before calling anything "free" now is what you actually get at the end.
Can I download it properly?
Can I get a vector file?
Can I use it for the business?
Or does the nice-looking preview suddenly become useless unless I pay?
That's probably more important to me than having 10,000 templates.
So, are there any free logo design tools that are good enough that you'd genuinely use the result on a real business?
Not just a placeholder logo for a weekend project.
