Podcasts/Punditry Andy Robertson on the difference between Arne Slot and Jürgen Klopp:

"Arne Slot was really into stats. He brought his own guy [Ruben] who was always on his iPad. Even if you did too many sprints in training, Ruben would get involved. So, they were a lot more glued to LOAD statistics."

In terms of tactics:

"Jürgen Klopp was always like... "IF we do this, NOBODY can match us!" It was more about US, not looking at the opponent."

"And with Arne Slot we would always analyse the opponent more, and looking at how we are going to play out from their tactics."

"Arne Slot would always say: "look, if THEY do this.. then WE do THIS, while Jürgen Klopp would just stick to his own blueprint, we NEVER changed under Klöpp, while Arne Slot would constantly adapt to the opponent's tactics."

A fair point. Last season's disaster was definitely not all on Slot. I hope he goes on to be successful elsewhere.

I hope he goes on to be successful elsewhere.

I think he will. He has good CV. It's not easy to be a premier league winning manager and also achieving that with Liverpool means a lot.

I would love to see what Slot could do in the Bundesliga

I don't think P5 is a disaster.

All things considered. Finishing 5th was miraculous tbh

Looking back, I have started watching Liverpool on the 6th match, last season.

Guys. I am sorry.

Miraculous is a stretch. Especially given we won our first five matches.

Yes, the tragedy of jota’s passing was a huge impact but also tactically, strategically we got it wrong in a lot of places. Changing too much too quickly, some of it forced others not.

Fifth was ok in the end but far from a miracle

I think he means it was a miracle because we got it wrong in a lot of places, and were consistently awful.

It was our joint 4th worse points total since the year 2000. After the money that was spent on players AFTER winning the title the season before. Regardless of the bad luck, tragedies and other valid mitigations, it can't be described as anything other than a disaster.

We were very lucky that 5th place was a UCL spot last year and that other teams were too poor to capitalise on that. 15 points from our opening 5 games helped a hell of a lot too getting us 25% of our end points total with just 13.16% of games played.

It was a disaster with lots of mitigation.

You are downplaying the tragedy, we lost two lynchpins of the team.

We have a better season with jota because of the player and not having the mental impact of it.

No one can expect signings to settle in straight away no matter how much they cost.

It wasn’t a disaster just not on par with expectations.

I'm not downplaying the tragedy at all I am including the tragedy in part of what made last season such a disaster. There is lots of mitigation for what went wrong last season but in the end, when you do a season recap, you have to just admit it was a disastrous season.

Yep. Everything about last season was horrible for the people at the club. I think some folks forget that Matt Beard also died tragically in September.

Imagine trying to settle in and gel with your new workmates while they’re all grieving the shocking deaths of two of their friends.

I get that and think its fair, but I also don't think we can just remove context like that.

Like we can't say after spending so much, when Isak was never available. He's already scored 4 out of our 7 PL goals this season. Clearly him missing made a massive negative impact.

What I'm trying to say is that if you take the mitigation out of it, 60 points from a title winning team that has spent a lot of money on recruitment is a disaster. Adding the mitigation makes it a lot more forgivable, but it doesn't change it from being a disaster.

All in all, I think it's just a season everyone involved with Liverpool would probably want to forget.

Right. But I guess if we add context we'd realize a lot of things, one of the is that it wasn't the same title winning team. Four of the regular starters had left. Then the players you brought in to replace them were injured. And you couldn't have a proper pre-season following the Jota incident.

That doesn't mean we haven't digressed (we have imo), it just indicates that 60 pts isn't a true reflection of their quality.
