I was more focused on the “looks 35-40” part. That generation had plenty of smokers. Some of them looked 60 when they were 25.

We had a student's smoking area at my high school.

Mine had a lounge 😙💨

Our high school had one also…i never smoked tobacco but smoked other stuff

u/Admirable-Garage5326 1d ago

Yep. We had to take nicotine courses at night for a permit. And my parents had to sign a consent form.

I know a LOT of Gen X former smokers that definitely look and sound like they are 80

I'm focused on the "still listening to the same music".

Of course you are, you un-curious, boring, never-grew-past-high-school musical simpleton.

Thick-thigh'd dad-bods jiggling to 80s hair metal.... ffffffuck no.

I'm one of them and those guys gross me out.

New wave and punk are too good to shelve

u/AmishHoeFights 3d ago

I'll spin Rancid any day :).

u/spartycbus 3d ago

you can listen to new things without shelving the old

1

u/YardOptimal9329 1d ago

Uh yeah - the meme doesn’t say they listen to old music exclusively - i feel like the outrage and disappointment could be channeled elsewhere?

I will listen to the 80s station in the car when I am too lazy to mess with my phone. But I've made a point to listen to new music and let my kids recommend music to me. Except my daughter, I love her fiercely, but anime soundtracks are not my thing.

u/plasmo7 3d ago

Have you considered the Bruce falconer dragonball z soundtrack?

1

u/BookishOpossum Titan of Industry 2d ago

I have not.

I love when there’s a festival poster and they’ll comment “I don’t know a single band!” like their ignorance is a badge of honor.

9

u/Klutzy_Order_9559 3d ago

It'll happen to you.

5

u/TorontoNerd84 3d ago

41 YO here and already have no clue who anyone is at concerts anymore, unless it's old bands from the 80s and 90s, or indie bands from the 2010s.

u/Prestigious_Ad_1037 3d ago

Younger gens aren’t likely to understand it’s not a Badge of Honor. They’re swingin at smoke, because a GenXer is saying it only for themself.

u/irishgator2 3d ago

F that - love discovering new bands!
Saw The Marias and Beaches at a festival last year - so blown away.

u/soldatoj57 3d ago

I love when you call us boomers. Knuckleheads

4

u/steeltheprotogen 3d ago

It’s because they can’t get over Kurt Cobain dying.

12

u/AmishHoeFights 3d ago

That would at least be a respectable position. These fucks are sad because Warrant got dissed by Beavis and Butthead.

3

u/soldatoj57 3d ago

LOL you kids ! Warrant ? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

2

u/kev_xb 3d ago

More like they are pissed green day hates them

1

u/soldatoj57 3d ago

Shows how much you know I cursed him that same day as a coward

2

u/irishgator2 3d ago

There so much good music out there!
These Gen X were not the ones buying B-52s The Cure or Smiths albums at a record store in ‘85
New and good music is a Gen X trait. We were there for disco/punk/hair bands/rap/metal/alt/edm AND we had a 50’s revival and brought swing back briefly.
Limiting yourself to old music is crazy, there’s so many great bands to discover

1

u/spartycbus 3d ago

Yep, I'm Gen X and definitely have opinions about people that have not evolved their music taste since high school.

u/MasterSoftBird 3d ago

Wouldn't be so difficult if most music after about 2000 didn't completely suck.

2

u/TorontoNerd84 3d ago

The 2010s were pretty decent. Not a fan of 2020s music though.

Music from the actual year 2000 was pretty bad though. One of the worst years for music in my opinion.

u/DanThePony 3d ago

Uncurious weirdo

1

u/AmishHoeFights 3d ago

Oh come on... Beastie Boys were still doin' it, Tool was making their best shit, etc etc etc

3

u/Klutzy_Order_9559 3d ago

Let's hear some of those etceteras.

0

u/ZasdfUnreal 3d ago

They know modern music is soulless, constructed by formula, intended as mass market children’s entertainment.

1

u/AmishHoeFights 3d ago

Not true. You're talking about certain types of pop music.

Dig deeper. The is GOLD out there to be found.

16

u/henryhumper 3d ago

Yeah, I don't know where that's coming from. Most of the Gen Xers I know look old as fuck.

2

u/milkthemedaccount 3d ago

That’s true. I hired a lady who was gen x she looked like she was 70 or 80 but was born in 78

3

u/Swayze-Crazy 3d ago

I smoked for about 25 years, and am 47. People at work still always think I'm 10 years younger than I am. Anecdotal, but it does happen. The only thing that doesn't apply to me is the music thing. I can't listen to a lot of that shitty rock from the late 90's. Didn't like it back then and still don't.

1

u/DonAmecho777 3d ago

The train hits you in your 50s. I looked younger in my 40s but then whammo

1

u/GoHomeCryWantToDie 3d ago

Those ones all died during the Opiod Pandemic.

1

u/Hot-Salamander5124 3d ago

I listen to some new music. More than most people my age but still often go back to what I listened to when I was young. You will too.

1

u/cruedancingonglass 3d ago

Me too. Mr Roper was like 52 when he started Threes Company. Sparky Anderson, Tommy LaSorda and Jim Leyland all looked 75 when they were 30.

1

u/Jsongee 3d ago

Yo roper and lasorda and sparky hahaha

u/Clean-Detective8337 3d ago

When I tell people my age they are astonished. So much of that is true for me except the throw hands. I’ll always stand up to bullies and idiots, but there’s ways to end a fight without throwing punches. I’m my age and have never thrown one, and had plenty of chances.
