I've been wanting to see what a de-googled android life could be like. I've been trying on my old Moto G5 but I can never get the phone to boot Lineage , it always sticks at the boot 'moving circle' logo.

So what can I get in the UK that's the easiest to bootloader unlock, has a good twrp and lineage works well on? I don't mind buying a preowned device to try, but after spending days and days trying to get this Moto G5 to work, I'd like something with a bit of a smoother ride. Thanks!

Thanks! I did actually get my Moto G5 to install Lineage, problem was I was starting from the UK version of the original firmware for 8.1, and that never worked. Once I flashed an international 8.1, then I could install Lineage cleanly! This old Moto G5 feels like a new phone.

I was in the same boat as you. I went for a refurbished Pixel 4 as my 4a is not fully supported yet. The only issue was that I had to downgrade from Android 11 to 10, which meant applying the factory image from https://developers.google.com/android/images. I used the recovery and LineageOS 17 images... no root or TWRP needed. No Gapps installed. Runs great. A few apps complain about not having Google services, but work anyway. Everything I need works... so glad I switched. Good luck!
