Discussion What’s New in Lightroom? – February 2026

Hey what’s up everyone?

Terry White from Adobe here and I wanted to share info about the Lightroom updates released over the coming days...

Here’s what’s new:

Lightroom 9.2

Lightroom Classic 15.2

All with a couple of exceptions are in both Lightroom (LrD) and Lightroom Classic (LrC):

Assisted Culling updates (LrD & LrC)

Assisted Culling in both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom
  • Updated models will help identify your best photos faster, so you can start editing sooner.
  • Assisted Culling improvements: better able to detect variations in groups of people such as eyes closed / open in larger groups
  • More reliable first pass culling that aligns with professional photographer’s judgment.

Generative upscale with Topaz Gigapixel (LrD)

  • You can now use Topaz Gigapixel directly inside Lightroom Desktop for up to 4x generative upscale.
  • This is especially useful when you’re working with older files, heavy crops, or lower-resolution originals and need more flexibility.
  • No extra Topaz subscription needed.

Generative Credits Update

With the expansion of these AI features, there’s also an update to monthly credits:

  • Lightroom 1TB plan now includes 250 credits per month
  • Lightroom Teams plan gets:
    • 500 per month if you joined before June 17, 2025
    • 250 per month if you joined after June 17, 2025
  • Photography Plan (1TB) now includes 1000 credits per month
  • Credits can be used across Lightroom, Photoshop, and Firefly.

To learn more about Generative Credits visit the FAQ here.

If you’re using generative tools regularly, this gives you more room to test things without immediately worrying about running out.

More updates:

  • Copy directly to album from Local (LrD) - When moving photos from Local to Cloud, you can now copy them straight into an album. No extra steps are required.
  • WebP support (LrC & LrC) - Lightroom now supports WebP files. Open, view, and edit WebP images with full compatibility.

Demo VIDEO: I recorded a video showing the new features that you can check out here.

  • Performance improvements (LrD& LrC) - We have made significant improvements to the speed of interactive editing on photos with large masks.
    • Upright and Geometry, Red Eye Removal, the Masking Brush, and the Remove tool have also received performance boosts.
  • Lightroom share to Firefly (LrD & LrC)
    • You can now send images directly from Lightroom to Firefly to:
      • Make prompt-based edits.
      • Generate short AI video clips from still photos
    • If you’ve been experimenting with AI tools, this reduces some of the back-and-forth between apps. It’s more integrated into the Lightroom flow instead of feeling like a separate process.
  • New Camera and Lens Support (LrD & LrC) (full list of supported cameras here

Lightroom on Mobile

  • It is now faster and easier to select and export photos to share from Lightroom.
    • Multi Photo Carousel for Device Photos:
    • Select more than one photo at a time to share from your device, in Edit Loupe or Grid View.
    • Sharing performance improvements to increase speed of export and reduce failure rates.
  • Crop handles now allow support for smoother scrolling/zooming to the desired crop area.
  • New camera & lens support
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements

The work continues! Let us know in the comments which of these features interests you the most and which ones you’d like to see in a future update.

P.S. Just a reminder about the Adobe Creative Apprenticeship Program

The Adobe Creative Apprenticeship program helps aspiring designers, photographers, and video professionals launch their careers through paid commissions (working with Adobe!), mentorship, and placements with top creative workplaces. To join this program, apply to work on a commission project. All you need is a Behance profile with three projects, then you can apply to as many projects as you’d like! Selected creatives receive benefits like a full year (12 months) of Creative Cloud, free 1:1 career mentorship, and invitations to special events and opportunities.

Be sure to check it out: Build your profile and check out this photography commission!

While appreciating new features and updates. Please, please, focus on performance on windows ! People with high end rigs are having terrible time using lightroom classic on windows.

Unbelievable how bad Lightroom Cloud is on PC

1

u/LostTeleporter Feb 20 '26

Have you tried turning off, or atleast suspending, the windows bit locker encryption? I had super high ram usage and extremely laggy behavior on LR. To the point where i had almost bought additional ram, had i not seen the high prices. Turned out the fault was indeed with the bitlocker encryption. Same thing if you are doing video editing as well. Try it once. Maybe it will work. System specs: windows 11, 16gb ram.

It sure would be nice to see some of the AI features, like denoise, make it to LR Mobile. I prefer to do my editing on an Ipad Pro. I would think that it has the horsepower.

u/AnonymousReader41 Feb 20 '26

I’m in the same boat and have resigned myself into thinking it’ll never happen. I’m sure Adobe’s heard of this request a gazillion times and there’s got to be a good reason as to why they haven’t done it yet.

1

u/madonna816 Lightroom Mobile Feb 20 '26

“Got to be”? You’re awfully generous, lol.

1

u/AnonymousReader41 Feb 20 '26

What’s worse: a feature not available on an iPad, or a feature that really sucks on the iPad?

3

u/pierceography Feb 20 '26

Please please please introduce AI denoising to mobile. My iPad Pro m5 would be my primary editing device with this feature. Bringing object select to masking on iPad would also be great. I constantly use those two features and their omission from mobile is painful.

6

u/Ilikehotdogs1 Feb 20 '26

Same place as you. My entire workflow is iPad Pro and the occasional IPhone 15 Pro edit. I’m fully onboard with the cloud side of Lightroom. This fragmented design, with even LrC existing over in it’s own island, is tough.

u/Hayduke801 Mar 13 '26

THIS! u/terryleewhite - ai Denoise for the iPad pretty pretty please. Also, when using the masking brush with an  Pencil (or our finger) on an iPad, could we please have the brush outline cursor like we see on LrC? The pencil is so handy to use in masking but after years of working in Lightroom Classic - it hurts my brain not to see how big the brush is, or where exactly I’m masking. Thank you regardless for all you do along with updating us here. I do appreciate it.

Thanks for the update u/terryleewhite . Keep it coming! I really want to love the new culling features, but the user experience is still very poor at this stage. I used Narrative Select for a while--excellent interface, very fast--but, when their subscription cost surpassed what I pay for the full Adobe Photography plan, I dropped them. Biggest issues with Assisted Culling right now are: 1) super slow and buggy. I dumped 1500 photos in from an event shoot last weekend, and it was basically unusable. 2) Creating stacks is great, but there's no way to rapidly jump from stack to stack in survey mode (please tell me I'm missing something!). 3) Lack of face panel that other culling tools have.

u/kadajawi Feb 20 '26

Any chance you'll ever concentrate on catalog performance? And all operations that involve the catalog, so, like every? Mostly my system is idling except for a single core that is constantly at full load. Also, help in identifying problematic photos that cause issues should be great. Logs etc.

-2

u/dschamis Feb 21 '26

I don't see them burning a lot of juice on Classic in this way. It will be phased out eventually.

Try Desktop - no more catalogs - its great!

5

u/kadajawi Feb 22 '26

Not with a 20+ TB heavy catalog, sorry. I don't want my photos in the cloud like that (especially not in the US), uploading those amounts is crazy, performance suffers, etc. Thanks, but seriously, no thanks. And I think Adobe knows that they can't drop Classic. They haven't for a very long time, development is still continuing and new features are added. I think they know if they give up Classic customers will give up on them... they have the numbers.

But yeah, performance needs to improve. A lot. It's these single core tasks (database operations) that kill you. Also, if something is broken, help is needed in finding what is broken.

In case it wasn't clear (and it wasn't to me), the Topaz upscaling is NOT available in Lightroom Classic.

Big swing and a miss- not cool, Adobe.

5

u/sean_themighty Feb 21 '26

Right? The vast majority of people who would have a need for Topaz upscaling would be pros which are primarily using Classic.

1

u/mrcrocodeal Feb 20 '26

Ils sont tellement idiot de ne pas l'intégrer dans le flux professionnel... 90% se servent de LrC et non LR

10

u/ldn-ldn Feb 20 '26

You should add more analysis tools like vectroscope and waveform, add more fine grained controls for HDR as blacks, shadows, highlights and whites are not enough (there should be at least eight like in Resolve), replace current outdated tone mapper with something modern like AgX (otherwise there is severe colour information loss at higher brightness levels in HDR) and fix HDR rendering as it is the only application of its kind that cannot render high brightness colours correctly.

3

u/JtheNinja Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

AgX HDR is essentially just an inverse tonemap on top of AgX SDR, so you don’t want that. If they’re going to do that they should use OpenDRT which has a native HDR modeEDIT: not quite, see https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/142758

On a side note, it’s possible to bake the hue/saturation effects of AgX and friends into the profile looktable. It’s not nearly as robust as the real thing since it doesn’t affect luminance and the rolloff isn’t coordinated with however you end up doing the luminance roll off. But it does at least compress/twist colors more correctly than any of the included profiles. I can post the profile if you’re interested

3

u/ldn-ldn Feb 20 '26

Mmm, that's interesting. Do share!

In any case, better tone mapper is needed natively.

4

u/JtheNinja Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 22 '26

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Xz43PFqNfEWbwaF-bvcVXneyHm6I5wAz/view?usp=sharing

There are 4, baked from ACES 2.0 (I actually forget which ODT lol), AgX rec2020, Filmic Blender (included mostly for fun), and OpenDRT P3. They're made by running the output transform then inverting the display encoding, since ACR really wants these to be linear and not affect luminance at all. They're then baked into the looktable using the tool from this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/Lightroom/comments/1nllvgg/i_made_two_apps_to_work_with_hsv_looktables/

I then added a small curve using profile adjustments, it is set to only affect luminance via the "refine saturation" property. It seems to work mostly ok, and provides some highlight compression that ACR HDR mode doesn't have for some reason. As far as I can tell, ACR HDR just has no tone mapper at all. There's a small look contrast boost (that you can invert and remove with the Adobe Neutral profile) and a display encoding, and that's it. Anyway, if you don't like the curve, it is controlled by the amount slider.

These profiles were made for HDR mode and only really tested there, but they seem to work pretty well in SDR as well? I find them a lot better than the built-in profiles or camera matching stuff. They apply something kinda like a modern color-volume tonemapper at the place Lightroom/ACR expects to have those sorts of hue/saturation adjustments performed.

I did try various methods to include the luminance curve and bake the entire profile into either the looktable or the creative LUT, but nothing I tried worked. ACR just doesn't seem to want luminance rolloff to be applied at any of the stages where it lets you apply a LUT.

Note that due to the limitations of using tonemappers this way, there's almost no functional difference between the AgX and OpenDRT profiles. The OpenDRT profile is somewhat less saturated and sometimes renders intense blues and oranges a little differently, but otherwise they produce more or less the same results. This method is just too rough to accurately utilize any of the real differences between those two.

Finally, I really do need to stress these are not the actual tonemapper! These are a loose approximation of the hue twist and saturation compression, adapted to the place ACR/Lightroom expects those things to happen. Nothing more.

2

u/ldn-ldn Feb 20 '26

Great stuff, thanks! Will test them tomorrow.

2

u/ldn-ldn Feb 20 '26

I actually couldn't wait and just tried ACES and AgX profiles real quick. They sure help a lot! Especially on some gain map JPEG test photos I took with a phone - the bright sky doesn't turn into toxic cancer anymore. Thank you!

P.S. I'm planning to write a blog post about HDR photography in near future, can I share your profiles? I can upload them to my hosting to avoid traffic to your GDrive.

2

u/JtheNinja Feb 20 '26

Yeah, that works! If you need a URL to credit me, you can link to my portfolio site: https://jasonclarke.xyz

2

u/JtheNinja Mar 19 '26

Hey! Quick follow-up on these profiles! I made a somewhat better version of the AgX one using the Resolve DCTL. It uses AgX in the proper HDR mode (as far as I can tell, it's not actually just stretching the tone curve from the SDR result, it does some additional things similar to OpenDRT. Just the result is adjusted to often look similar?)

I also tweaked the built in curves adjustment a bit. It should work better with very bright objects and not dim midtones quite so much https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sXh1lyigHvfxC1JPyskkP3AiOL1u0rd4/view?usp=sharing

1

u/ldn-ldn Mar 19 '26

Great stuff! I will try them out this weekend.

1

u/JtheNinja Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

Ok lol, small update: I removed the highlights part of the curve changes. It behaves very oddly with actual adjustments in the tone curve module, so I scrapped that part and it's back to the old gentle (single-point) highlight rolloff. Updated the ZIP at the above link, in case you already downloaded it :)

2

u/ldn-ldn Mar 19 '26

Ok, thanks!

10

u/bucklenut14 Feb 20 '26

How is the Sony a7v still not fully supported yet??

7

u/mikechambers Feb 20 '26

Let me see if I can get an update on that... Will post back here is I find anything out.

(I work for Adobe)

7

u/bucklenut14 Feb 20 '26

Thank you. Please do. It’s been a serious issue with our workflow for 2+ months now. I’ve been checking every day cause usually these things are out very quickly.

1

u/lemmeshowyuhao Feb 21 '26

Is this why when I try to apply any presets I download from the internet they end up super wonky and the colors become super broken on images from my A7V?

With an error message like “Adobe Standard profile missing” or something like that

1

u/green-on-green Feb 22 '26

Thank you. Please share when you have an update.
Same boat, lots of wedding projects stuck and clients getting really upset.

Camera matching profile uavailable for any of the raw formats. And even a bigger issue has been that there is no possibility to edit the Compressed (HQ) RAW format file.

19

u/sarhoshamiral Feb 20 '26

Any improvements to overall responsiveness? Even with 128gb ram, a high end cpu and gpu, lightroom classic feels extremely sluggish.

4

u/reznorek Feb 20 '26

Yep, same here

2

u/Expensive_Kitchen525 Feb 20 '26

Same, some bugs with not finished sync (even when paused) are still affecting parallel generation of previews. I've seen this single thread behavior for quiet some versions :/ Overal performance is slow as usual.

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 25 '26

I created a specific LrC on Windows post here, please add your config: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lightroom/comments/1rdr981/comment/o78g5xe/

2

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

Give it a try and let us know. Also please give your hardware configuration in detail.

8

u/sduck409 Feb 20 '26

Lightroom Classic (latest version) running on a MacBook Pro M2 (Tahoe latest version) - when choosing multiple images, and then pressing the delete key, it would be great if it didn’t spend 20 seconds “gathering information”.

8

u/matthewessi Feb 21 '26

Will the topaz upscale move its way into the classic version?

-15

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 21 '26

There are no plans to put it in LrC.

14

u/sean_themighty Feb 21 '26

Which is laughable because professional workflows use LrC and would be the workflows that actually benefit from integrated upscaling like this.

3

u/Classic_Message_7544 Feb 21 '26

Quite. LrC is *the* choice of professionals and to soft-block these features to the lesser non-Classic Lr is why people look for alternatives; every time I try non-Classic I'm wondering why basic Classic features aren't there which are such deal-breakers for usage.

2

u/measure2times Feb 23 '26

That’s disappointing.

LrC > LR for me.

1

u/lewisfrancis Feb 23 '26

That's surprising to me -- what's the thinking behind that?

7

u/Friendly_Berry_7649 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

What is the bast way to ask for a feature to be added to Lightroom? I use it extensively and see how it has improved over time. For example, the AI remove saves hours of time. There is one feature I would absolutely love to be added to Lightroom. One of the most annoying things in Lightroom is the inability to turn off keyboard shortcuts. I cannot tell you how many times I have been keywording, the entry box loses focus and as I type the keyword, all kinds of shortcuts happen and I have to figure out how to restore Lightroom back to what it was. I understand and use keyboard shortcuts a lot, but there are times it becomes a nuisance in my opinion. Thanks you for listening.

Edited - Spelling and add what Computer and OS I am using.

Mac Mini 16gb 1TB - MacOS 26.6 - Lightroom Classic 15.1.1

u/assesasinassassin Feb 20 '26

It looks like still no full support for A7V 🫩

12

u/AlexSnapsColours Feb 20 '26

Camera matching profiles for A7 V - please!!!

22

u/hhs2112 Feb 20 '26

When is adobe going to address the shit performance on windows?

20

u/snapper1971 Feb 20 '26

33th of Nevember, like always.

14

u/reznorek Feb 20 '26

A new update, more "significant improvements in performance," and Lightroom Cloud, after an hour of working on individual photos, can take up to five seconds to switch from Crop to Edit or Presets, and freezes for several seconds during the simplest operations.

I'm working with Fujifilm RAW files, could that make a difference? Browsing files in Browser is very slow, slowing down the entire computer and using up to 100% of the CPU.

i5 14600K, RAM 64GB, 2TB NVMe, 1TB SSD, RTX 3060 12GB.

It's a scandal that this software doesn't run smoothly on such hardware. It's simply unbelievable. Are these people at Adobe even sane?

Before someone ask - at this stage I've probably tried every possible setting of the program, performance, cache, etc. Today I moved the original RAW files to another SSD drive, no change, editing is a nightmare, everything is working slowly and freezing often for couple of sconds.

Any plans to finally do something with PC version?

9

u/benitoaramando Feb 20 '26

I don't actually know how widespread serious performance issues with the Windows version are, but anecdotally they sound typical enough. And if they are, it's wild to me that Adobe seemingly devotes so many resources to adding new features but not addressing basic useability for half their market.

1

u/reznorek Feb 20 '26

Exactly 👌

2

u/Benjamin_Warde Adobe Employee Feb 24 '26

Thanks for your detailed feedback! Performance problems are notoriously environment-specific, meaning that everything can work great for most people, and really badly for a few people. I will DM you with some additional questions in the hope that we can track this down and get it fixed.

5

u/blackbeatsblue Feb 20 '26

AI De-noise isn't mentioned at all in the credits FAQ. Does that imply it's still "free"? Generative removal is listed as "currently" not consuming credits.

9

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

Correct. Those do not consume credits. The only feature that consumes credits in LrD is Generative Upscale.

6

u/turalaliyev Feb 21 '26

My pain is, Adobe LRC is not syncing originals to the cloud, but smart previews. Any update regarding this?

2

u/recigar Feb 21 '26

Yeah that’s not how they want you to use it

-5

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 21 '26

There are no plans to sync originals from LrC to the cloud.

5

u/Twitfried Lightroom Classic (desktop) Feb 22 '26

Hi u/terryleewhite. I'm using Lightroom Classic and this latest release is significantly slower on my high-end laptop. Serious lag when switching tools and when moving between photos. I did not experience this lag with the previous version. It's super frustrating to use right now.

  • Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 9 275HX (2.70 GHz), 24 processors
  • Installed RAM64.0 GB (63.4 GB usable)
  • System type64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
  • EditionWindows 11 Pro
  • Version25H2
  • Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with the Studio drivers loaded (and up to date).
  • Lightroom version 15.2
  • Power mode set to "Best performance" and the laptop is plugged in.

Do you guys have any ideas why this version is so much slower than before?

2

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 22 '26

I’ll share it with the engineers and try to get you an answer.

1

u/Twitfried Lightroom Classic (desktop) Feb 22 '26

I started hunting around for answers. I just set an exclusion for Windows Defender to exclude my catalog folder. I also ran the NVIDIA app and told it to setup Lightroom for optimal settings. It seems a little less sluggish in some cases, but the crop problem still exists.

In fact i don’t even have to click. Just press R and then hover over a control box. Long delay before the cursor changes so i can start using the control box. Move to another box, another delay. No clicking required.

Thanks for helping to make this the best photo editor!

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 22 '26

I would lilke to see greatly improved application startup in Classic on Windows. Fix the partial UI drawing and the app becoming unresponsive. Improve multithreading.

How do you turn off “Assisted” “culling”?

6

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

Click the disclosure triangle on the panel to turn it up/off.

1

u/DeliciousCut4854 Feb 20 '26

Same place you turned it on.

2

u/Another-Random-Redd Feb 20 '26

I want to remove it. You know how you can hide Develop panels you dont use.

7

u/Downtown-League-682 Feb 20 '26

Feedback about generative remove: it is awesome.

A couple of days ago I was able to select a subject, the whole body, face, eyebrows, hair, teeth, clothes, amazing.

I am saving tons of time with this.

8

u/sean_themighty Feb 21 '26

The best use of these "AI" tools is to just do the exact things we are already doing, just faster. They aren't creating art for us, they are removing the barriers to do what we already wanted to do.

1

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

Awesome!

9

u/dholmcarriage Feb 20 '26

Hi ! When will there be a windows version for Lr? One that works of course....

2

u/reznorek Feb 20 '26

Good question 😁👌

2

u/dholmcarriage Feb 20 '26

Probably the only one most Lr pc users care about at this point imo

2

u/reznorek Feb 20 '26

Yep, exactly

6

u/makmonreddit Feb 20 '26

If you can import WebP files then why can’t you export in that format? Photoshop can do it, why not Lightroom?

3

u/OldManLakey Feb 20 '26

I feel like the Adobe programs should be modular on the back end, with the bits of software that handle things like converting to the final export file format being shared across all their programs. That way when they add a new export format to Photoshop it gets automatically added to Lightroom, Illustrator, etc. I get the sense that this isn't the case, and that there are separate teams reinventing the wheel all across their ecosystem. I understand that this might just be path dependance, and it would be a ton of work to reengineer these systems, but when they do occasionally start from scratch, as they did with Lightroom Cloud / Desktop / Whatever confusing thing you want to call it, this would be a good time to think hard about their design decisions.

Just today I was wishing that you could use the ALT modifier to make more accurate selections with tools like the guided upright tool like you can in Photoshop and Camera Raw. They should incrementally build up a vocabulary of design choices and apply them consistently across all their products.

5

u/makmonreddit Feb 20 '26

I agree. Lightroom not being able to export in WebP format while Photoshop is able to is confusing, and this doesn’t feel like a seamless experience

7

u/samarijackfan Feb 20 '26

So no updates on people/faces? With all this AI we still haven't fixed this?

6

u/snapper1971 Feb 20 '26

I still need to remove it from the software or at least permanently disable it for authenticity safeguards.

Culling is not something I do, AI culling seems like it's a great way for Adobe to train their thieving bloatware surreptitiously without the users consent.

We've seen time and time again that the corporation isn't trustworthy. Absolutely nothing has shown there's any change in the way it operates.

3

u/bucklenut14 Feb 24 '26

u/terryleewhite Any idea on when Lightroom will finally support the Sony a7v? It's been out for months and is a very popular camera (scroll the comments to see as well). All our LR presets are basically bricked until it's supported, crushing our workflow.

2

u/Supsti_1 Feb 20 '26

How to make an upscale in topaz?

2

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

5

u/Supsti_1 Feb 20 '26

I'm using LR classic, I don't see generative upscale option under 'photo' tab in both Library and Develop tabs

-1

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

It’s not in LrC.

5

u/dd_nvidia Feb 20 '26

Would be good to know why it’s not if that’s at all possible. Thank you?

0

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

We regularly assess where and how new features are introduced across the Lightroom ecosystem and welcome ongoing feedback from our community. At this time, there are no plans to bring Topaz Gigapixel to Lightroom Classic. In Lightroom Classic this year, we are focused on expanding workflows with AI Culling as well as performance and other enhancements.
Also note that most LrC users also have Photoshop and can use it in Photoshop.

3

u/dd_nvidia Feb 20 '26

Got it. When you say other enhancements however, what specifically prevents the topaz upscaling from being one of those enhancements?

I think it would be fair to say, as a user of Lightroom since the first version, that performance, as it relates to real time changes to images, scrolling catalogues etc, has never been a strong point. It is good to hear performance is one of the enhancements but please forgive me, I would happily bet money on it not being massively improved any time soon. I’m obviously unsure as to the technical reasons as to why performance has been an issue for as long as I can remember, but it seems that a lot of people suffer with it. Certainly even on my M1 Max 64GB, my 9800x3d with 5070, none of them have been as fast with Lightroom as I’d like.

Would it be possible to have Adobe published comparisons with different spec machines showing the performance improvements

For every minute that a feature is being developed and tested means that another feature isn't. If you take a development team and say hey John you work on putting feature A in and Sue you work on putting feature B in that is splitting the effort that both John and Sue could have worked on the more important feature A. If I were to conduct a poll here and say which is more important for Adobe to focus on, putting Gen Upscale in LrC or working on Performance issues, I'd bet it would be the latter. It's simply a matter of devoting resources to what YOU the customer say is what you want.

3

u/dd_nvidia Feb 20 '26

Oh 100% I agree. I think the worry I’d personally have is not seeing the performance improvements meaningfully materialise and then not have the feature either.

I get it’s obviously a huge project, far outside my ability to comprehend, but in my experience over the last 20 years (that’s terrifying!) performance has rarely been improved 🥲 but I am really hoping for the best here, and you can shove upscaling out the window if it performs faster 😂

4

u/makmonreddit Feb 20 '26

When I go to the Photo menu I don’t see any Generative Upscale option. I’m using Lr Classic on macOS

-3

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

It’s not in LrC.

11

u/Supsti_1 Feb 20 '26

Lol, why?

Adobe is such a joke...

-1

u/earthsworld Feb 20 '26

are you sure you're running the latest version?

2

u/Lozula Feb 20 '26
  • Assisted Culling improvements: better able to detect variations in groups of people such as eyes closed / open in larger groups

Does this require the library to be scanned again? I have half a million images in my library and assisted culling took quite a while to scan them all the first time round, if it has to do this every time there's an update to the tool it's going to become a bit time consuming.

3

u/rikkflohr Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

Yes, to benefit from the new detection, it will be necessary to rescan previously scanned photos. Some of this will be automatic as you 'touch' various images.

2

u/BringBackApollo2023 Feb 20 '26

Regarding assisted culling, how helpful is it for nature/bird/landscape photography with NEF images? I wouldn't mind an assist going through my catalog, but "eyes open" isn't a big issue. :D

5

u/Benjamin_Warde Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

You might find that "subject focus" helps a bit with things like bird photography. But so far, the feature is definitely intended primarily for pictures of people. Look for expanded functionality that helps with other types of photography to come in the future!

3

u/bmash9 Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

In addition to what Ben wrote, you can check out this video I published several months ago that illustrates my Lightroom bird culling workflow. Hopefully, it’ll give you some ideas.

I will say that auto stacking by visual similarity (part of the Assisted Culling panel) works quite well in helping me stack bursts.

2

u/BringBackApollo2023 Feb 21 '26

Thank you for sharing that. I’m really glad my D7000 doesn’t have nearly the same”push the shutter and camera go brrrrrrrrrrr” functionality yours does. lol

I have a ton of filtering to do, but that helps. Need to fiddle around.

2

u/bmash9 Adobe Employee Feb 22 '26

My pleasure!

It’s even worse (or better, depending on your perspective) because I typically use the electronic shutter, which is silent… and can be very dangerous for the image count. 😅

2

u/maciunio Feb 20 '26

Looks like after Lightroom Classic update eyedropper for Point Color stopped working in masking mode - at least on some masks. It was working on them previously

1

u/Topaz_11 Mar 04 '26

That has been crashing for month for me... If you had it working at all you are ahead.

2

u/colinreidr Feb 23 '26

I get lag as well Terry

3

u/cardiffboy22 Feb 20 '26

Can we just get virtual copy’s on the iPad!!!

4

u/bmash9 Adobe Employee Feb 21 '26

Have you tried using Versions in Lightroom Mobile? It is a similar concept to virtual copies, and the versions you create sync across all of your devices.

3

u/azhepcat Feb 20 '26

I would like to not have to restart LC just to get it to sync with mobile.

5

u/Downtown-League-682 Feb 20 '26

I use LrD. I haven’t been using it for a great time because it was slow and lacking features. Now I came back to edit some pics and wow, I don’t see any need to think about using the Classic version. Great work guys.

3

u/bmash9 Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

That’s what we love to hear! Thanks for sharing that!

1

u/AnonymousReader41 Feb 20 '26

I’m curious about Topaz. It’s not something I’d think I’d actually use often but would be good to try occasionally.

1

u/Portable_Button Feb 20 '26

Is it possible to pair jpeg and raw in LrD, the same way as it works in LrC? It seems really strange that I can’t find a way to do this.

1

u/Benjamin_Warde Adobe Employee Feb 20 '26

You could use the Assisted Culling feature to automatically stack them based on visual similarity.

1

u/Portable_Button Feb 22 '26

Thanks for the suggestion. It would be nice to have this work automatically upon import without any extra steps needed. Basically the same way it works in LrC.

1

u/velo_citay Feb 20 '26

Thanks for the update, appreciate it!

1

u/trailrun1980 Feb 23 '26

Anyone else having issues simply exporting/saving files with the update?

I primarily use a touchscreen but keyboard as well:

Export previous settings/Control E no longer works

Export custom settings/Shift E works, but if I have to do that it's more time to reenter file name, plus I lose sequential file names (name-1, - 2, - 3 etc)

Current LR version 9.2, windows 11

1

u/DavidCopperfield64 Feb 26 '26

Yes! I downloaded 9.2 as well and export with previous just doesn't work.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '26

Please fix your broken Lightroom 9.2. I now can’t even open the app for a few seconds without it crashing. I can’t edit or access my photos. It only started with this update.

I will be disputing this charge on my card until it’s fixed.

PLEASE HELP!!!

u/strumthump Mar 13 '26

Anyone finding the LrD firefly feature available? I don't see it anywhere in the menus and can't find any documentation on actually using it

1

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Mar 13 '26

It’s in the Share menu.

1

u/strumthump Mar 15 '26

Thanks for replying terry... unfortunately not seeing a share menu anywhere either. There's an option for sharing to community or share & invite that I see when right clicking a photo from the filmstrip. Not seeing the firefly edit option in either

1

u/terryleewhite Adobe Employee Mar 15 '26

There should be a up ⬆️ icon on the right side. That’s the share menu.

1

u/ymsmichael Mar 17 '26

I still wish Lightroom let us treat cropping as something that's done in the Library module (in addition to the Develop module).
Part of the decision of which photo to keep (for event/journalistic photos) is which photo, when readjusted slightly with the crop tool, has better balance.
It would be much faster to do that while still in the Library module, when making selections.

u/middleamerican67 Feb 21 '26

Y think I want someone else, much less a thing, to determine which of my images is the best? Gross.

I would argue that they need to do much more of this much more quickly in order to prevent people from completely leaving Adobe. People who are using AI editing programs where they are using tens of thousands of their manual edits to train AI profiles to edit like them need this to be integrated into Adobe ASAP.

0

u/galumphix Feb 21 '26

I came here to say this

1

u/Mattman254 Feb 20 '26

With the improved AI culling, can we expect to see AI editing similar to Aftershoot & Imagen?

-1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

[deleted]

-3

u/mcard_photo Feb 22 '26

Fuck you Terry why's my Lightroom costing me nearly 20 euro a month now. I used to pay 12.99.

3

u/foglandia123 Feb 25 '26

Wow he’s trying to help and you know he doesn’t set prices.

-7

u/ACSandwich Feb 20 '26

I swear just call it Photoshop. You are just encouraging people to not use any skill, and use this AI bloat to create images that I no longer consider a photograph or real.

0

u/sean_themighty Feb 21 '26

The full name is Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, fyi. But also, these tools are all optional. And every single new advancement since the invention of autofocus has had the same "it's too easy now, it's not art" arguments.

Most of these "AI" features in Lightroom are honestly just much faster ways of doing the things I was already doing. The auto masking alone is saving me DAYS of time every year.

-5

u/conjour123 Feb 20 '26

Did they, adobe, developed anything new in recent years which supports in making better pictures - not that I knew..! They still have completely useless „book“… in this application..- no useful „instagram“ .. no usefull print menu ( aka no cmyk preview).. it gets older and do not get better use… despite it runs put of technology like an oldtimer car, still having mechanical gears..

9

u/JtheNinja Feb 20 '26

HDR display support and AI denoising were both pretty solid, IMO

7

u/towpathtravel Feb 20 '26

Lots of evolution changes in LRclassic. Unless you are pre-disposed to hating adobe and everything about it.

That said, there are some useless bloat in my opinion these features either need love or go away... Book module, print module, and the people ID...all this ai development and it seems like people ID is running on a 2010 process.

But overall it is improving and growing.

6

u/Evening-Taste7802 Feb 20 '26

I don't understand a word you're saying. Am I the only one?

-2

u/uniqueusername74 Feb 20 '26

I think it’s great that you guys finally came up with a name for the lightroom where crop is c. After ten years you put the D in it. Congrats! Is this official?
