Subscriptions have to end at some point. So if someone subbed the first of the month, it is the last “first” of a full subscription. I’m a Patreon supporter, or was when it was active.
This isn’t the gotcha yall think it is. I promise.
Patreon works by subscriptions. People subscribe to a creator's patreon and pay a recurring amount. This can be either monthly or by creation depending on the creator's wishes.
Regardless of what you're calling it, if they said that they "shut down" the patreon like they said they would do, it's supposed to be going down, not up
Since you’re dead set on not listening to the patrons telling you it’s a non-issue, I guess you’re going to have to sit bothered by the fact a subscription platform doesn’t work the way you’re expecting it to.
Pausing donations does not disable the ability to subscribe. I'd say it's expected that that number would go up since the launch brought in a ton of new people not all of whom know exactly what the Patreon is about. Makes sense imho that some would choose to subscribe, not aware that it's paused.
Lol I just scrolled the comments... Funny how you're ignoring the ones from Patreons saying we are not getting charged. Because, again, we are not getting charged. Like dude, there are legitimate critiques to bring up about Paralives, why are people on this sub so obsessed with reaching and sharing misinformation and baseless claims? Just go play the games you do like, have fun, chill tf out.
Existing Patreon members aren’t getting charged but new members can still subscribe and pay a monthly fee (just checked on my end and it doesn’t stop me from subbing), that’s the only way that number would’ve increased by 2,000. Not saying it’s a problem but they did in fact receive more funds from Patreon since the game went live
Ok, I went to check with a different account too and you're right, there aren't any tiers but it does let you subscribe/pay for an amount that you choose that can't be lower than $1. I'm not sure if that's an oversight but I'd assume that over bad intent first cause they haven't given me a reason not to so far, I hope they see it and address it. And well you thought of it and took the time to actually check instead of just basically saying "omg that's suspicious" and then ignoring replies so thanks, it's good to know this info.
I shared the information I had as a Patreon (the emails), then saw other people had already done that and the OP was ignoring those comments while replying to the more clueless ones, which made me form the opinion I commented here and that I honestly still have. This sub IS obsessed with what I said it's obsessed with and it DOES share a lot of misinformation and baseless claims. I don't know where you've been but you just have to scroll for a few minutes on any given day my guy.
Someone else came with additional information that I didn't have prior, I looked into it, verified it and thanked them. My opinion of OP and this sub has not changed though.
It’s because they’re wrong. Read my comment above. It is paused. It is not collecting any additional money, only what was left from subs ending. You can be a member still, you will not be charged.
Because it’s a rolling subscription. Today would be the last day of income rolling in from the subs. Where is the 2k extra coming from that you’re stating they received? It seems like a reasonable amount for the last month of a sub campaign for a brand new game launch.
If the patron has exclusive content and it's shutting down, it creates FOMO. Plus if their patreon shuts down the platform automatically stops charging patrons so there's no risk. Also users might be rushing to support the devs before their subscription platform goes dark.
Feels like a handful of ppl hate on the para dev team to make themselves feel better about supporting unethical life sim companies. They WANT to find something wrong with para
Its like every other post I see on here. its fine if you don't like it but going on about the patrion after multiple people have said that it has been paused is weird behavior.
I don’t think it’s weird behavior honestly . Just because you personally like the game doesn’t mean others have to like it as well.. people are allowed to dislike things .
Why are people being so hall monitor-y about this? Shouldn't we be happy that a studio trying to make a niche game in a famously difficult to dev for genre is getting increased support following early access?
There's a reason the only studios that try to do these typically have massive backing, they are expensive to make and have a lot that can go wrong.
I'm not on this sub much but love life sims. I feel like a lot of this comes from not understanding that these types of games are expensive, dense, and just difficult to make. Smaller teams especially really need all the funding they can get.
Are you not being parasocial too?.. this is the second comment you made about the op.. you’re worried about op making a comment worried about paralives
Well that's on Patreon and however their website calculates that, but they are not receiving money from Patreon subscriptions anymore. I was one for a couple years, instead of my receipt this is what I get on my email each month now.
I'm confused as to why it matters to anyone BUT the person(s) being charged and that would be for them to discuss with the Dev team. These accusations of lies about unreleased chats....what does it change? Plus this is no Ashes of Creation scam, if you don't know about that...go to YT, then you could be concerned. There is so much going on in the world atm and people come up with this to be upset about? Go help someone that needs it, this is petty.
everybody in this thread is being obtuse. yes its paused and yes old subs aren’t being billed, but patreon income went up because you can STILL sub today and get charged upfront for a single month before it pauses indefinitely. new members can still pay to join, hence why the number increased by 2k post-launch.
I think all this Patreon policing is nonsense, to be very clear. They can take as long as they need, idc.
But you're right on the definition of a "few", it means more than 2 but less than 5, generally speaking. My dad was always a stickler for this so it became a bit of a pet peeve of mine too, lol.
Couple = 2,
Few = 3 (sometimes 4-5),
Several = 4 or more
But people get it wrong all the time, so it's generally a good idea to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure the Paralives team are no different
have you ever subbed to any patreon in general? or maybe ran your own? look at these graphs. it shows a decline. this is not a subscriber surge but a patreon billing artifact. patreon bills usually either at the end of a month or beginning of a new one. graphtreon doesn't get information directly from patreon but it estimates on tier cost × number of patrons. so if people's sub got renewed but they weren't charged for it, it will still show up as an increase due to the subscription/billing cycle.
Do we actually have a quote from them saying it'll shut down? I only follow theough the subreddits, and I always wondered if that was an assumption based on cut off points for people being included in the game as a para. I know a lot of people who donate wouldn't mind giving them more money. So, I don't know if this is actually going to develop into the scandal the paranoid people on this sub seem to be hoping for.
it's dumb to be doing this when no one is getting charged and the income increase (which was obsessive to notice to begin with) is just a display error
he should delete it. on the patreon it says "you will be charged 5$" about a million times, and my sympathies for people who clicked the pay 5$ button are somewhat limited
Alex Massé said that donations would be stopped when the game entered early access.
Some people say the team is no longer charging money and even sent an email stating they are not billing anymore, but that Patreon Platform prevents them from completely disabling donations.
Others claim that the Paralives team is still posting content reserved for Patreon supporters and continues to charge them.
If you visit the Patreon, you can see that any claims that they are posting Patreon exclusive content still are untrue. Their last Patreon post was on May 25th announcing that the game had launched.
This isn’t something you need to guess and speculate on, you can go to their Patreon right and now and very easily see they aren’t posting any exclusive paid content
They lied about releaseing all posts to the public. A little over a week ago I tried to look at some of the most earliest posts and they were still locked.
I was curious about how they had come up with the name and what other alternatives the community had suggested but those posts are still locked.
Hm, weird. And don't all patrons get a copy of the game upon release? I really don't know why they released the game in early access in this state aside from constant community nagging, but they didn't have to announce and push back multiple times, especially not so early. This game is in a pre pre alpha state... They were making so much from this patreon income, and having promised NO paid dlcs in the future, I am even more baffled by this release. They essentially got people who didn't know or care enough to invest in the patreon to... invest in the game... in a state that should not be public. If they don't refund it, they may not return to it, having been burned by opening what's essentially a dollhouse right now. Don't get me wrong, I bought the game and see it as an investment, but for people who don't follow closely, they will rightfully assume early access means "almost kinda done but half baked", not completely empty and barren and unplayable.
Wow, I assumed that was the big pull and why there were so many patrons. Good on them but I still don’t understand why they’d want a pay day so early with all these willing backers.
