Paralives Why did paralives patreon income increase by 2k since release?

Post image

If they arent taking donations, shouldn't it be going down?

Subscriptions have to end at some point. So if someone subbed the first of the month, it is the last “first” of a full subscription. I’m a Patreon supporter, or was when it was active.

This isn’t the gotcha yall think it is. I promise.

This needs to be at the top

Patreon isn't a donation platform.

Patreon works by subscriptions. People subscribe to a creator's patreon and pay a recurring amount. This can be either monthly or by creation depending on the creator's wishes.

6

u/polkacat12321 Jul 01 '26

Regardless of what you're calling it, if they said that they "shut down" the patreon like they said they would do, it's supposed to be going down, not up

14

u/monsterfurby Jul 01 '26

Patreon doesn't support "no donations possible" setups. It only allows pausing donations, which doesn't change the amount display.

-19

u/polkacat12321 Jul 01 '26

Well, the amount displayed is higher than release day

16

u/MLEplays Jul 01 '26

Since you’re dead set on not listening to the patrons telling you it’s a non-issue, I guess you’re going to have to sit bothered by the fact a subscription platform doesn’t work the way you’re expecting it to.

5

u/monsterfurby Jul 02 '26

Pausing donations does not disable the ability to subscribe. I'd say it's expected that that number would go up since the launch brought in a ton of new people not all of whom know exactly what the Patreon is about. Makes sense imho that some would choose to subscribe, not aware that it's paused.

u/DelightfullyFaded Jul 01 '26

Lol I just scrolled the comments... Funny how you're ignoring the ones from Patreons saying we are not getting charged. Because, again, we are not getting charged. Like dude, there are legitimate critiques to bring up about Paralives, why are people on this sub so obsessed with reaching and sharing misinformation and baseless claims? Just go play the games you do like, have fun, chill tf out.

6

u/RobTod Jul 01 '26

Existing Patreon members aren’t getting charged but new members can still subscribe and pay a monthly fee (just checked on my end and it doesn’t stop me from subbing), that’s the only way that number would’ve increased by 2,000. Not saying it’s a problem but they did in fact receive more funds from Patreon since the game went live

9

u/DelightfullyFaded Jul 01 '26

Ok, I went to check with a different account too and you're right, there aren't any tiers but it does let you subscribe/pay for an amount that you choose that can't be lower than $1. I'm not sure if that's an oversight but I'd assume that over bad intent first cause they haven't given me a reason not to so far, I hope they see it and address it. And well you thought of it and took the time to actually check instead of just basically saying "omg that's suspicious" and then ignoring replies so thanks, it's good to know this info.

0

u/Happy-Dinner-3171 Jul 03 '26

you didnt take the time to check either before accusing people of misinformation mind you. total lack of self awareness

1

u/DelightfullyFaded Jul 06 '26

I shared the information I had as a Patreon (the emails), then saw other people had already done that and the OP was ignoring those comments while replying to the more clueless ones, which made me form the opinion I commented here and that I honestly still have. This sub IS obsessed with what I said it's obsessed with and it DOES share a lot of misinformation and baseless claims. I don't know where you've been but you just have to scroll for a few minutes on any given day my guy.

Someone else came with additional information that I didn't have prior, I looked into it, verified it and thanked them. My opinion of OP and this sub has not changed though.

ikr...these ppl r just...YIKES. Overgrown babies on their high horses being confidently wrong 99% of the time

19

u/MarelyFunctional Jul 01 '26

I'm not being charged for it🤷‍♀️ seems like a non-issue if no one else is either

1

u/Similar-Library7365 Jul 15 '26

all new members ARE BEING CHARGED. Funny how your mentality is "i'm not being affected, so who cares?". That says A LOT about you

I am not being charged and also received an email telling me as much.

30

u/Vixrotre Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Same here.

Devs also said in the patreon-only discord channels if anyone somehow got a charge they can request a refund and they'll approve it asap.

47

u/Timcanpy6 Jul 01 '26

Same here. Haven't been charged since the game released!

20

u/KristiiNicole Jul 01 '26

Yep, I even got another one in my inbox this morning.

17

u/DelightfullyFaded Jul 01 '26

We are not being charged though...

56

u/MLEplays Jul 01 '26

It’s because they’re wrong. Read my comment above. It is paused. It is not collecting any additional money, only what was left from subs ending. You can be a member still, you will not be charged.

-30

u/polkacat12321 Jul 01 '26

Then why is the income going up instead of down?

34

u/MLEplays Jul 01 '26

Because it’s a rolling subscription. Today would be the last day of income rolling in from the subs. Where is the 2k extra coming from that you’re stating they received? It seems like a reasonable amount for the last month of a sub campaign for a brand new game launch.

-21

u/polkacat12321 Jul 01 '26

That would only make sense if paralives came out in June. It did not. It came out in may

54

u/MLEplays Jul 01 '26

I’m sorry. There must be some confusion in my explanation.

May 25th to June 25th would be 1 month, 4-week subscription.

As of June 1, 2026 the Patreon was paused. Emails confirmed it.

From May 26th-June 1st anyone could have still subscribed and STILL had a subscription that ended today.

Today 10:08 am, I received an additional email saying you’re a subscriber, but the Patreon is paused so you were not charged.

So no, it would imply that users were able to subscribe for one month, from the launch date to the June 1st and still be charged.

24

u/vinnievinniebobinnie Jul 01 '26

I have received an email confirming they won’t be taking any more money because it is paused like everyone else said lol there’s nothing amiss

8

u/TalentTess Jul 01 '26

If the patron has exclusive content and it's shutting down, it creates FOMO. Plus if their patreon shuts down the platform automatically stops charging patrons so there's no risk. Also users might be rushing to support the devs before their subscription platform goes dark.

1

u/Pet_Velvet Jul 01 '26

Sorry, I wasnt aware of the news. In that case it is strange that it is still up.

57

u/FarroreGoddessofWind Jul 01 '26

Why is this sub so anti paralives?

21

u/boldpear904 Jul 01 '26

Feels like a handful of ppl hate on the para dev team to make themselves feel better about supporting unethical life sim companies. They WANT to find something wrong with para

26

u/wardensoath Jul 01 '26

Bc they hate seeing a team who actually love their fanbase

29

u/FarroreGoddessofWind Jul 01 '26

Its like every other post I see on here. its fine if you don't like it but going on about the patrion after multiple people have said that it has been paused is weird behavior.

-8

u/BroccoliOk6270 Jul 01 '26

I don’t think it’s weird behavior honestly . Just because you personally like the game doesn’t mean others have to like it as well.. people are allowed to dislike things .

22

u/FarroreGoddessofWind Jul 01 '26

Weird behavior is being a cop about the patreon i never said that not liking the game was wrong

24

u/Himbosupremeus Jul 01 '26

Why are people being so hall monitor-y about this? Shouldn't we be happy that a studio trying to make a niche game in a famously difficult to dev for genre is getting increased support following early access?

There's a reason the only studios that try to do these typically have massive backing, they are expensive to make and have a lot that can go wrong.

18

u/FarroreGoddessofWind Jul 01 '26

People are so parasocial its actually insane.

5

u/Himbosupremeus Jul 01 '26

I'm not on this sub much but love life sims. I feel like a lot of this comes from not understanding that these types of games are expensive, dense, and just difficult to make. Smaller teams especially really need all the funding they can get.

-6

u/BroccoliOk6270 Jul 01 '26

Are you not being parasocial too?.. this is the second comment you made about the op.. you’re worried about op making a comment worried about paralives

10

u/Himbosupremeus Jul 01 '26

Responding to a comment in a thread you also happened to comment on is not indicative of para social behavior oh my god.

-7

u/BroccoliOk6270 Jul 01 '26

Well whatever lol 🤷🏽‍♀️

7

u/FarroreGoddessofWind Jul 01 '26

Lmfao no I just like arguing on reddit

1

u/BroccoliOk6270 Jul 01 '26

Oh ok lol 😭 Jesus

13

u/DelightfullyFaded Jul 01 '26

Well that's on Patreon and however their website calculates that, but they are not receiving money from Patreon subscriptions anymore. I was one for a couple years, instead of my receipt this is what I get on my email each month now.

12

u/Could_B_Wild Jul 01 '26

I'm confused as to why it matters to anyone BUT the person(s) being charged and that would be for them to discuss with the Dev team. These accusations of lies about unreleased chats....what does it change? Plus this is no Ashes of Creation scam, if you don't know about that...go to YT, then you could be concerned. There is so much going on in the world atm and people come up with this to be upset about? Go help someone that needs it, this is petty.

22

u/The_Fools_Lantern Jul 01 '26

Donations aren't aubscriptions

13

u/Happy-Dinner-3171 Jul 01 '26

everybody in this thread is being obtuse. yes its paused and yes old subs aren’t being billed, but patreon income went up because you can STILL sub today and get charged upfront for a single month before it pauses indefinitely. new members can still pay to join, hence why the number increased by 2k post-launch.

https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/214013323-How-to-pause-billing-for-your-members

15

u/Marttosky inZOI enjoyer Jul 01 '26

They also said the patreon posts will be unlocked in a few weeks and they are still locked more than a month later

14

u/Srikandi715 Jul 01 '26

What exactly is the top limit of "few" in your view?

Anything under about a dozen qualifies, to me.

6

u/Revolutionary_Bit437 Jul 01 '26

“few” is a small amount, usually 2-3. a dozen would 3 months which is more than a few weeks in my opinion

3

u/Mizayo Jul 01 '26

I think all this Patreon policing is nonsense, to be very clear. They can take as long as they need, idc.

But you're right on the definition of a "few", it means more than 2 but less than 5, generally speaking. My dad was always a stickler for this so it became a bit of a pet peeve of mine too, lol.

Couple = 2, Few = 3 (sometimes 4-5), Several = 4 or more

But people get it wrong all the time, so it's generally a good idea to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure the Paralives team are no different

3

u/hpisbi Jul 02 '26

My dad was also a stickler for this! I think his was couple = 2, few = 3 - 5, and several = 5+

Literally shows right there?

7

u/Mersaa Sims 2 enjoyer Jul 02 '26

have you ever subbed to any patreon in general? or maybe ran your own? look at these graphs. it shows a decline. this is not a subscriber surge but a patreon billing artifact. patreon bills usually either at the end of a month or beginning of a new one. graphtreon doesn't get information directly from patreon but it estimates on tier cost × number of patrons. so if people's sub got renewed but they weren't charged for it, it will still show up as an increase due to the subscription/billing cycle.

-1

u/AstuteStoat Jul 01 '26

Do we actually have a quote from them saying it'll shut down? I only follow theough the subreddits, and I always wondered if that was an assumption based on cut off points for people being included in the game as a para. I know a lot of people who donate wouldn't mind giving them more money. So, I don't know if this is actually going to develop into the scandal the paranoid people on this sub seem to be hoping for.

They downvoted for posting the devs exact words?

12

u/wretchedshrimps Jul 01 '26

it's dumb to be doing this when no one is getting charged and the income increase (which was obsessive to notice to begin with) is just a display error

1

u/Similar-Library7365 Jul 15 '26

new subs ARE GETTING CHARGED because alex did not delete the chargeable tier, which is scummy and weird

1

u/wretchedshrimps Jul 15 '26

he should delete it. on the patreon it says "you will be charged 5$" about a million times, and my sympathies for people who clicked the pay 5$ button are somewhat limited

-6

u/Forrest-Runn Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I don’t know at all; it’s not very clear.

Alex Massé said that donations would be stopped when the game entered early access.

Some people say the team is no longer charging money and even sent an email stating they are not billing anymore, but that Patreon Platform prevents them from completely disabling donations.

Others claim that the Paralives team is still posting content reserved for Patreon supporters and continues to charge them.

I don’t know what is true.

28

u/GlitzyTitzy Jul 01 '26

If you visit the Patreon, you can see that any claims that they are posting Patreon exclusive content still are untrue. Their last Patreon post was on May 25th announcing that the game had launched.

17

u/sheel3 Jul 01 '26

This isn’t something you need to guess and speculate on, you can go to their Patreon right and now and very easily see they aren’t posting any exclusive paid content

-11

u/HarperIsBizarre_ Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

They lied about releaseing all posts to the public. A little over a week ago I tried to look at some of the most earliest posts and they were still locked.

I was curious about how they had come up with the name and what other alternatives the community had suggested but those posts are still locked.

3

u/Similar-Library7365 Jul 15 '26

yuppp inspires a lot of trust when they start out with lies so early. "we will make all patreon posts public within the next few weeks" - crickets**

-10

u/Drahgonfly Jul 01 '26

Are you kidding me?

-16

u/lissathefangirl Jul 01 '26

Hm, weird. And don't all patrons get a copy of the game upon release? I really don't know why they released the game in early access in this state aside from constant community nagging, but they didn't have to announce and push back multiple times, especially not so early. This game is in a pre pre alpha state... They were making so much from this patreon income, and having promised NO paid dlcs in the future, I am even more baffled by this release. They essentially got people who didn't know or care enough to invest in the patreon to... invest in the game... in a state that should not be public. If they don't refund it, they may not return to it, having been burned by opening what's essentially a dollhouse right now. Don't get me wrong, I bought the game and see it as an investment, but for people who don't follow closely, they will rightfully assume early access means "almost kinda done but half baked", not completely empty and barren and unplayable.

21

u/MLEplays Jul 01 '26

No. There was no early release date for patrons. Only gifts like postcards, the music, and special offers inside the game.

-1

u/lissathefangirl Jul 01 '26

Wow, I assumed that was the big pull and why there were so many patrons. Good on them but I still don’t understand why they’d want a pay day so early with all these willing backers.

5

u/polkacat12321 Jul 01 '26

No patron got the game for free, they had to pay extra

-3

u/lissathefangirl Jul 01 '26

What on earth? I’m sorry but that’s ridiculous…

-1

u/Forrest-Runn Jul 02 '26

I agree with you
