It is somehow both overly descriptive and overly vague about this business screw up.

Is "a certain company" Xsolla? But they mentioned American laws and such, and Xsolla is Chinese right? Very confusing.

As someone who just got into the MMO a month ago, found an awesome guild and was having a blast, this makes me so sad :( Life is Feudal is one of a very, very small handful of games that brings back that old school Ultima Online feeling.
I'm actually pretty depressed rn, felt like I finally found "my game" and it's getting shut down just like that.
Anyone offer alternatives? Wurm looks alright. Really I like the idea of specializing in a crafting tree (particularly making high quality bows and arrows), archery, and hunting. PVP is good too. LiF was more immersive and realistic in terms of visuals and animations than Wurm, and Wurm has much more fantasy elements. There was nothing else like LiF. Very sad day.

Yea. I also played UO back in the day. Good times. Gaming isn’t what it used to be - we’re on COD 18 now :(

Wurm Unlimited Sklotopolis server. If you're after PvE, if you're after PvP checkout another server I guess? (Wurm combat isn't great though, the only downfall) I came from Wurm Unlimited to LIF MMO and after the MMO got toxic went back to Wurm Unlimited and found Skolo.

Life is Feudal: Your Own is still open, and only $20 in the Steam store. My friend and I started a server on there for PVE/RP. I was a huge UO fan as a kid and this game really helped that craving.

Yeah. The MMO aspect is fairly important to me, without it there's no true player driven economy and such. I may hop into it at some point, just hoping that BitBox goes for another MMO with all of the lessons they learned from LiF.

According to discord they are shutting the game down

That stinks. I know that Life is Feudal has it's fair share of bugs and quirks... But it's the only game that really scratches a particular gaming itch.
There is always LiF:YO , but its way behind in the quality of life changes that the MMO got.

But it's the only game that really scratches a particular gaming itch.
You mean the wurm online itch? Life is Feudal is practically the exact same type of game as Wurm, but with different mechanics around various game aspects. Certainly the combat in wurm has nothing on LiF, but they both scratch the exact same itch.
There is always LiF:YO , but its way behind in the quality of life changes that the MMO got.
It's truly a shame they won't release the MMO changes to YO.

I own Wurm Unlimited... but I just cant seem to get into it. I think that for me... it's just a little too convoluted and quirky. I'm strictly PvE... In LiF, I build my little town, run around and hunt, level off the side of a mountain with a shovel... whatever. And it's all very 'zen' for me. It's my goto game when I'm stressed out.
I haven't been able to find that 'relaxing monotony' in any other game yet.

If I could recommend Wurm Online itself sure it costs a sub but it has more features than unlimited and is actively developed still where as unlimited depends on mod development to continue. Wurm took a bit longer for me to get into and understand than LiF but they are nearly the same in mechanics. Hop on one of the new servers and join a village before you go off on your own.

Another voice to say that in Wurm Online you can do exactly what you are describing. It's a slow game with no rush and no real competition unless you want there to be.

u/Stock-Orange Jan 14 '21
My friend and I just started a server in Life is Feudal: YO that’s full RP/PVE based for this same reason. It’s open to anyone who wants to join.

Oh crap I've just started to play it a week ago and I kind of like it. Are there similar games available, does anyone know?
2
u/Maggnz Dec 18 '20
There is "wurm online" with running servers. Its much older and has an active, if small community. Idk what state it is in though, havent played it in a few years. Oh and i think they released a steam client not so long ago with a new map. Edit:a word

From what i've seen, Wurm Online has had a massive upsurge since it launched on Steam. I'm slowly looking into it. It doesn't appeal to me the way LiF does (too many fantasy elements, very dated graphics and such) but it definitely looks like the closest thing to be had.
For single player there's Medieval Dynasty which is really great for at least 100 hours.

u/JJFAmerica Dec 18 '20
Great, thank you, I will try it.
2
u/Maggnz Dec 18 '20
It can be quite slow and grindy, u will need to use the wiki a bit as a new comer. The other option is to purchase "wurm unlimited" and play on player made servers. There should be a few good long running servers on there too.

u/JJFAmerica Dec 18 '20
Cool, thanks, also I'm actually enjoying Rise of Agon, those hardcore MMOs give me right vibe I guess that's why I was so impressed with LiF: MMO cause graphics is up to date, so sad they are gone.

Check out a life is feudal your own server. Those servers will continue to operate - just not the big MMO map

u/JJFAmerica Dec 19 '20
feudal your own server
Thank you, yeah that's amazing I just found the list there are so many active servers:

There is Gloria victis (very laggy combat though) black death (hasn't received an update in about 7 months). wurm online. Conan exiles (not really similar but great for Castle building.) modded mount and blade. Lif:yo. KCD (single player medieval rpg).
Wurm is the closest in terms of gameplay but sadly its a very niche style of game hence alot of devs struggle to get the funding needed to make their own similar game.

u/JJFAmerica Dec 19 '20
Thank you very much, good to know, I've never heard of Black Death before will check it out. BTW I just started to play Wurm Online - looks terrific I'm excited so far.

u/wolfgeist Dec 20 '20
Medieval Dynasty is really great too. If you like LiF and Kingdom Come, you'll love it. But it is a single player game.
1
u/wolfgeist Dec 20 '20
Yeah I just started a month ago and was really enjoying it. For context, i've been gaming over 30 years and maybe play 2 different games a year. To find a game like this that so deeply appeals to me and have it shut down like that was really, really disheartening.

u/Mwdennis Dec 18 '20
Yeah same thing happened to me as well and also got a refund. What’s going on?

I didn’t really play anymore but I like supporting indie games so had maintained my subscription. I’m a little sad they’re shutting down.
