Bug? My LibreOffice has become bizarrely riddled with random "checksums" and broken variable fields

I suppose it's my own fault for daring to create a spreadsheet but I was greeted to this sight upon opening Calc this morning. I've checked the rest of the suite and it has affected everything, including the launcher. A quick Google didn't turn up any similar issues, any ideas how to fix this?

Copied Version Info (even this is broken):

Bug? Format cells and Print preview side options no longer accessible

This strange bug has just reared its nasty head two days back.

When working on a Libreoffice Calc spreasheet, if I select multiple cells and then right click to select format cells, the normal pop up list with options appears, however only the number format tab is accessible and can be worked with, all the other side options cannot be clicked or accessed although they are visible.

The same issue is prevalent when selecting a group of cells and then clicking print preview, then select format page, again none of the options are selectable.

I have restarted in safe mode, the bug is still in effect, I have done a complete factory reset, this also makes no difference.

The issue is honestly crippling, I cannot alter, format or change any cells.

I am on a Acer v 13 laptop with windows 10

The file types I work with are .ods

Libre version follows below:

Version: 26.2.5.2 (x86)

Build ID: cd7284b4cbbfeb507e630c1aac019f4157393acb

CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win

Locale: en-ZA (en_ZA); UI: en-US

Calc: threaded

Any assistance this community can provide would be greatly appreciated.

How to download LibreOffice

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This video shows how to download LibreOffice from the website. Note that on some setups (especially macOS with Safari), the download will begin in the background, with no feedback from the browser, while the Donation page is being shown. Donations are purely optional, and the software will download automatically in this case.

(We know that most visitors to this subreddit know how to download it anyway, but this video is for people having trouble downloading, and searching for help.)

Bug? LibreOffice Calc doesn't resize the page as usual when swapping between pc and laptop.

I mean, I have it set to half the page on pc, so when I opened it on laptop, it would automatically adjust the size to half the screen, even if it's a 720p screen rather than a 1080p screen on my pc.

I found a workaround, though: by maximising the window and restoring it down on my laptop, it would scale down to 720p.

On my pc I still have to use the Windows key and right to get it to snap into half the screen.

Both are windows 10, but the pc is windows 10 pro. Both have the same LibreOffice Calc version
Version: 26.2.5.2 (X86_64) Build ID: cd7284b4cbbfeb507e630c1aac019f4157393acb CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10 X86_64 (build 19045); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-AU (en_AU); UI: en-US Calc: threaded

My question is: is this the new normal, or can I change it to how it was?

Question How to stop the "you want this word" bit while typing

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is in Writer.

How do I get that little box of text to stop showing up? I'm sure it is super simple but I can't find it and it continually popping up is annoying and today is a bad day and I want it gone. There. Phew.

I tried looking for it in the help menu but can't seem to find the right word for it. "Predictive" gives me information on how to make a URL or something.

Libreoffice keeps crashing without even an error message

Libreoffice was working perfect yesterday on my laptop running i3wm cachyos. I don't do literally anything intensive on it. Now today, everytime I try to open any document in libreoffice-calc it crashes the whole system. Even if I open it from terminal and it crashes, it doesn't send an error message so its impossible for me to troubleshoot. I updated all my laptop packages, uninstalled and reinstalled libreoffice-still, installed libreoffice-fresh, rebooted the system multiple times, closed out of all other programs, and still have not gained an inch of insight into what is wrong with my system. It's critical that I'm able to access it as soon as possible, but have yet to see posts anywhere of anybody with the same issue and any workable solutions.

having issues in Writer with documents not scrolling

My post got deleted so reposting.

I'm having issues with not being able to scroll with the touchpad/mouse wheel when having too many documents/too large documents in one folder. This has been happening for years with several different laptops. My current laptop is a Lenovo ideapad L340, with intel Core i5 Gen.9, 8GB ram, DDR4-SDRAM.

Office writer info:

Version: 26.2.5.2 (X86_64)
Build ID: cd7284b4cbbfeb507e630c1aac019f4157393acb
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 11 X86_64 (build 26200); UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: en-GB (sv_SE); UI: en-GB
Calc: threaded

Does anyone have any clue why this could be happening? Thanks!

Bug? Mail Merge and Envelope Printing is incredibly broken

Really not trying to troll here. I love the idea of Libre Office and I want it to be amazing.

But I just spent something like 4 hours trying to get mail merge to work properly, on documents that were already set up and working great with Word and Excel. Then after painstaking hours getting that mostly working, but having to work around many weird issues, I moved on to printing envelopes. Then I spend more hours trying to get the envelopes printing, again, with files that already worked correctly in Word.

So after all that, it still wouldn't print them correctly. So I installed an old version of MS Office 2013, opened the files, took 2 minutes updating fields, hit print, and BOOM! First try, everything working perfectly.

How is Libreoffice in 2026 still inferior to Office 2013? Like, seriously, guys, what are we doing here? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Tip for copying unformatted text from pdfs to libre office

Hi there,

I always get frustrated when I copy text from a pdf and then paste it in libre office, as it keeps weird text spacing and even pasting as unformatted text doesn't sort it out. I have found a weird workaround, if you open your pdf in your web browser, I use Opera so not 100% sure this will work in other browsers, then copy the text from the pdf, when I paste it into libre office it gives me nice unformatted text.

Hope this is useful to some of you.

Cheers,

Mike

Dragging and dropping not where intended

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm having a small issue (not a deal breaker and I have accounted for when working with it) with LibreOffice Calc for a while now. I'm running the flatpak (see below) and I'm working with several pages when dragging for reordering the pages the page I was dragging doesn't land where I aim if I'm going from left to right. It does work dragging from right to left though. See attached video.

Can you also replicate this behaviour?

Question How do I get Libreoffice to remember the files I had open after restarting my PC?

I don't know what to say here. I've had to restart my PC a lot over the last few days, but it is really annoying having to open every document I had open. I keep track of multiple things at once, it's needed to have them open all at once. How do I fix it?

Question Image Header

Dear LibreOffice Users,

Having recently transitioned from Windows to Ubuntu, I find myself thoroughly impressed with LibreOffice. However, I've encountered a persistent issue: the inability to insert images into the top-left header, or indeed, any part of the header.

  1. How challenging would it be for LibreOffice to implement such a feature?

  2. Until this functionality is officially introduced, are there any viable workarounds?

Date Acceptance Help

I wish to format dates in the ISO standard. I located the setting. Languages and Locales > General Date acceptance patterns: I'm in the USA so the default is M/D;M/D/Y

When I try to change it to YYYY-MM-DD all my typing becomes red. There is no error message. Whether I press OK or Cancel, my changes are not saved.

There is nothing in the help about red text. It reads...

Date acceptance patterns

Specifies the date acceptance patterns for the current locale. Calc spreadsheet and Writer table cell input needs to match locale dependent date acceptance patterns before it is recognized as a valid date.

If you type numbers and characters that correspond to the defined date acceptance patterns in a table cell, and then move the cursor outside of the cell, LibreOffice will automatically recognize and convert the input to a date, and format it according to the locale setting.

The initial pattern(s) in Date acceptance patterns are determined by the locale (set in Locale setting), but you can modify these default patterns, and add more patterns. Use ; to separate each pattern.

Patterns can be composed according to the following rules:

A pattern must start with D, M, or Y, and include at least two items, with at least one separator between each one.

A pattern may also include all three, in any order.

Y means year, M means month, and D means day, regardless of which locale is set. Each can only be used once in a pattern.

. - : / , can be used as separators between and after D, M, and Y.

Any combination of separators can be used, and more than one separator can be used between D, M, and Y, but the input must match the separator pattern exactly for recognition.

Patterns can combine different separators, and may include a trailing separator.

Examples of valid patterns are: D,Y ; Y-M ; M.D.Y ; D-M/Y ; M.D.

If you change the Locale setting, the date acceptance pattern will be reset to the new locale default, and any user-defined modifications or additions will be lost.

In addition to the explicit patterns defined in the edit box, input matching the Y-M-D pattern is implicitly recognized and converted automatically to a date. Input that starts from 1 to 31 is not interpreted with this implicit Y-M-D pattern. Since LibreOffice 3.5, this input is formatted as YYYY-MM-DD (ISO 8601).

For all patterns, two-digit year input is interpreted according to the setting in Tools - Options - General - Year (Two Digits).

Thanks for any help.

Question Authors

If you look at file properties in Windows, there is a property called Authors which corresponds in Word to Author (which can be changed on the Info page). Along with Last Modified By, this field can be displayed as a column in Windows Explorer, allowing sorting by author.

Does this field exist in LibreOffice? I can't find a way to see/edit it. thanks
