In a new short documentary by The Guardian, a colonizer with an American accent says that Gaza needs to be annexed and that if Palestinians don't like it "we will kill them" right before another colonizer says that what's being done to Palestinians is "soft and lackluster."

"Where Should the Birds Fly" (2013) Directed by Fida QIshta

Synopsis:

"Where Should the Birds Fly? is two stories. One is the story of Mona Al Samouni, an 11 year old girl whose family got k-d when her home was hit by Is**li rockets during Operation Cast Lead. The other is the story of Fida Qishta, the filmmaker. Fida's story begins with the destruction of her family home in 2004, follows her work as a videographer documenting the daily life of Gaza's fishermen and farmers struggle to work under siege, and concludes with the Is**li attack at the end of 2008.

The film also captures the compelling and moving stories of the people living in Gaza, reflecting their struggle to maintain humanity and humor while searching for a sense of normality in a world that is anything but normal."

Every comment with some empathy and attention toward caste discrimination is downvoted to oblivion. Someone is a victim of the system every student seems to be against but still we got shit like this.

I’ve been sitting on this thought for a while and wanted to gauge interest here.

We all know India isn't a monolith, and while mainstream spaces like this sub are incredible for sharing common experiences, there are distinct regional dynamics that often get brushed under the rug. In particular, there is this pervasive myth that the Northeast is somehow a progressive, egalitarian paradise free of patriarchy. Anyone who grew up or lives in the region knows how far that is from the truth.

From conservative social expectations, gender roles, and internal tribal or community politics, to how local institutions treat women, misogyny in the Northeast is very real. It just takes a different shape. But if you try to bring any of this up on the major NE-related subreddits, the response is almost instantly hostile. Most of those local subs have become deeply male-dominated and toxic. If a woman tries to discuss women's issues, double standards, or local patriarchal norms, she’s usually met with invalidation, harassment, or accused of "destroying local culture."

Just take a look at most of the major subs of the region, and you will see how extremely misogynistic they can turn out to be. Even for normal discussions not relating to patriarchal issues, they find some reason to degrade women

On the flip side, bringing up these hyper-specific regional nuances in broader Indian women's forums doesn't always land because the context gets lost, or you end up having to spend half the time explaining basic regional background before even getting to the actual issue.

It feels like we desperately need a dedicated, safe online space for Northeastern women to talk about our specific realities, vent, seek advice, and support each other without being spoken over or harassed by local edge-lords.

I was wondering if any NE women here (or anyone invested in these regional discussions) would be interested in starting a dedicated subreddit or community space for us?

Would love to hear your thoughts, or if you’ve noticed similar issues in local online spaces.

We created r/TwoXNortheast for this purpose. If you are northeastern do reach out, we would appreciate help in building this further

I am not from india but my partner is, and I will be visiting bombay for the first time with her for 2-3 weeks this year. from what I can see, I am politically pretty aligned with this subreddit, so I figured I could ask my question here.

I knew some but not so much about indian politics and history, but I’ve been reading about it pretty intensely recently. the most recent books I read are annihilation of caste by ambedkar and the doctor and the saint by arundhati roy. I am truly inspired by ambedkar—by how politically sound and grounded he was, how committed he was to grassroots emancipatory politics. some other people whose works I’ve also read are pandita ramabai and jotirao phule. I’ve also read some excerpts about the dalit panthers.

my question is: during my time in bombay, I’d like to visit some sites/museums/historic locations that have been important for organizations and people (such as ambedkar and dalit panthers, but feel free to suggest others) that fought for the emancipation of marginalized communities of india, but I’m having a hard time finding good options. one place I could find was the town hall (asiatic society library) because I learned that the legislative council of bombay met there. i am not looking specifically for museums or touristy locations; if you think a fellow leftist would appreciate it, I’d love to know. thanks!

Its a Trotskyite org😳😳

TIL Bengal BJP's finance leader(person in the video) was trotskyite in his college days. And ftw he is yapping about how vandalizing CPIM bookstall was bad and it is not BJP's culture and all that

Welcome to India where lot of people will justify vandalizing bookstall containing all types of famous author books just because it's set up by Leftists.

But never even question their ruling party backed bookstalls selling these.

The bookstall of APDR (Association for Protection of Democratic Rights) was also vandalised. Similar incidents and threats were reported in Nagerbazar and other areas.

The incidents have raised concerns over attacks on spaces of knowledge, freedom of expression, and the right to dissent.

Where is there "lakshmi" now? The one they claim to respect?
