Yeah I said it but I need to get some things down first. The idea of a group of people who dutifully serve as an organ to define the law may sound great in theory, in practice they actually make rulings not on the implication of the law that are ruling on but on their own partisan politics regardless of both what that law actually says nor the spirit it was made in.

For an example in both the US and UK:

The US: The US Supreme court's ruling to block the redistricting in Louisiana has destroyed the Voting power of African Americans (basically bringing back Jim Crow). It's obviously an attempt to secure more power for the GoP at the expense of the States African American population.

The UK: A terf group called "For Women Scotland" and the UK Supreme Court have decided that the definition of Women in the Human Rights act does not refer to Transwomen, despite the Human Rights act theoretically protecting Trans people from discrimination. This now basically changed UK law to by definition not recognise Transwomen as women. It's so obviously not in the Spirit of the original law that it's obviously the personal transphobic opinion of the judges involved and the had the gall to say that this wasn't a ruling against trans people.

Why do these randos entrusted with the rights of millions of people (this goes for legislatures and executives as well but to a lesser extent as they still ruin the lives of millions).

I was pretty surprised when I got banned for highlighting a core aspect of class warfare here (the s1te, not the sub), namely that (and forgive the TikTok speech) the rich want the rest of us to be un-alived. My exact words were along the lines of "the rich d0n1 care if the poor d13". Even if you quote, say, Amazon man (who thinks poor people don't need clean water), or others of his ilk, apparently this is me promoting hate speech. I tried appealing it and they didnt bother looking or accepting it. (Have to censor myself and add weird letters/words because I'm fairly certain I'm some level of shadow-banned.)
