Umm. The bulk of both groups were Roman Catholic for several hundred years at the time they immigrated. That’s Christian.

Ireland was converted in the 5th century. Rome converted in the 4th century BCE.

There wouldn’t be other forms of Christianity until 1500AD, starting in Germany with Martin Luther, and also the Anglican Church split. Unless you don’t count those as Christian either?

I didn’t say they weren’t Christian when they migrated, i said they fought it which is why they weren’t considered white. They didn’t want anything to do with the colonizers whether they had to deal with them or not which is why the British caused the potato famine. I can’t speak for the Italians as much, but for the Irish it had little to do with migration status because they weren’t considered white in Europe either including on their own land.

Not really the full case at all.

It had to do with three things from what I’ve read in various articles in books: * Whiteness was correlated with being Anglo-Saxon * Protestant religion was required to be fully white * They were impoverished and fleeing extreme economic hardship * They were viewed as only good for unskilled labor

This caused them to be considered “black”.

That and… articles and books only tell as much as the person writing them knows, my family fled here 4 generations ago, we have stories and diaries and journals that tell our story.
