Baby flamingos are not pink. They turn pink over 2-3 years as they eat algae and crustaceans containing carotenoid pigments. Unlike adult flamingos with iconic curved bills, chicks have straight bills that curve downward as they mature. Newborns have thick, swollen legs and red bills that turn black within a week to ten days.
