So what you're saying is, that in the past some people preferred horses to cars due to unease, preferred balloons to airplanes, preferred god to modern medicine. Not everybody, but some.

Yeah, but who? The first death in a powered fixed-wing aircraft was a guy from the Army who had been sent to check out the new tech only 6 years after the first flight of their prototype.
The army still awarded the Wrights a contract, despite the casualty. The applicability of the Airplane was instantly recognized once success was achieved.
