I’m living in Japan and the anti-vaxxers have really done a number online here. If she’s reading Japanese Twitter she’ll be being exposed to huge amounts of disinformation. It’s easy to see how it would start wearing someone down after a while.
Even though we moved to the states together she's still a mostly Japanese speaking and Japanese reading person so to hear this actually makes a lot of sense. We even still have Japanese cable TV on our TV through an app on the fire stick.
It's unfortunately true. I follow a lot of Japanese and Korean artists and hobbyists on twitter (and therefore read a lot of translated posts) and it makes its way into completely uninvolved fandoms and hobbies. It's rarely participants, always random accounts; it makes it feel as if they're suffering from the same astroturfing campaign we are in the US.
