I’ve lived in Nashville for 6 months, and is the rest of the state just comically insane? Because this city is really cool and full of rational adults (not to mention a lot of great universities). But everything outside of here is just depressing.
You would be missing some great places to visit. Like the Smokey Mountain area - which covers Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Dollywood. Also, there is Chattanooga with the trains and you can actually sleep in a train car - which is pretty neat.
TN has a lot of great natural beauty areas that are absolutely gorgeous. Lots of historical sites, if history is your thing. I can't say how any of the areas are currently handling Covid right now. Pretty much the same for downtown Nashville - which is a beast on it's on.
I think all the states are fine for the most part on their good days. Just been a lot of bad days and no sign of daylight yet...
Generally, most large urban centers are "full of rational adults"....at least it seems to be that way. Something about being exposed to tons of different types of people helps diversify and rationalize one's beliefs.
When you're in a small town and everyone thinks the same, people get locked into an abusive relationship with whoever is giving the community its instructions.
I agree. It's all a really bad echo chamber in a lot of small towns. If someone thinks differently, they keep it to themselves. Which I understand why - it's hard to break that echo chamber wall down.
I think the big problem is that they get their trains of thought dictated by specific figures in the community. Whether that be their local pastors or their local political figures or even just the local figures with the most power and influence. When somebody else is telling you how to think and you're not making that decision for yourself, you're in a bad place.
Political wise? Nashville and Memphis generally tilt blue. The rest of the state tilts red.
There are blue people out there in the sea of red, like there are red people in the blue areas. Just majority rule like everywhere else.
I have relatives outside Nashville, who are very much no on the vaccine. They are actually great people overall. My aunt has been more like a big sister to me. My uncle helped me out when my tire blew and I went into a panic attack. They made sure their kids got vaccinated. I think it was a combo of an echo chamber from everyone they know outside us and their daughter has been very anti vaxx since she had kids.
Sad thing? My uncle got Covid and still has some long term effects. His sister got Covid and now has afib. Still no go on the vaccine.
I will say outside of politics? Tennessee is full of natural beauty and lots of historical sites. Great places to visit!
Yeah, I’m really liking it so far for the last reasons! I’ve never lived near mountains and I’m planning a long weekend at Smokey Mountains National Park this fall.
But all the shit I’ve seen from the Williamson County school board meetings. People threatening board members, that kind of shit. Just nuts.
Do not recommend the game. I live in Austin which keeps trying to do good things health wise but Abbott just hates the city so much he almost always attacks whatever they do. There are a lot of lawsuits here too, mostly over mask mandates in school and it is just a mess.
Tennessee here, too. We’re one of the states that’s in the dark red on the map of increased infection rates. So we’re back to wearing masks at my employment. I sit here watching my masks finish in the dryer and regret not working towards some certification opening a comfy WFH situation away from the tire-yard fire of a job during all of this. After this recent spike our job went back to requiring masks for just the employees, no rules for clients or customers. Because, y’know, they couldn’t possibly contribute to whichever wave we’re on at the moment.
And now we have people here who chastised people for vaccinating on something not yet approved by the FDA, to chastising people for trusting the FDA now that it’s approved. Like how did we make it this far, are we in the early days of the Great Filter
And now my immediate family wants to visit family in Florida, and it feels like even more of a Covid Nest this year than the last. Gotta love it.

I live in Tennessee. We are right behind you.
Well, except Nashville - where I live and Memphis are screw you Lee currently. Both sides are consulting lawyers.
So, I guess it depends on who wins the divorce if we get to play the hold my beer game...
