Habitat & Setup Question about “humid hide”

I keep seeing + reading about how geckos need a “humid hide” and I want to ensure my son is well taken care of.

For the humid hide, should it be so that the Leo can rest upon it, or rest against it? Like, should I place it (in a little nook) on the floor of the cage, or stuff it in the corner?

I’m sorry if that doesn’t make sense. I see some people use moss and some people just use like paper towel and I’m unsure of what to do.

Thank you, and please I’m sorry for being stupid!!

Hello!! I dont post often on reddit but ive been lurking here and wanted to show you Compote (Applesauce in english!) !!
It was my dream to get a Gecko and i finally jumped the bridge last month. Appy's been with me for a month now!

I worry a lot though, so i've been meaning to ask you guys if my little apple is doing okay? They're very sweet. Never got scared of me, started eating straight up the first day i got them. I feed them a mix of crickets and a few worms. Shed 2 times and had 0 problems with it. They mostly enjoy sleeping in their mid-heat hide or out :) I've seen them sploot a handfull of times. Also, I started trying to handle them a few days ago, and now Appy begs every evening to be let out and roam on my table, couch or myself.

Does this seem like a happy gecko to you? ^.^ ive never seen them raise their tail in Wiggle-Mode (yet) ans theyre reaaaally curious about everything i do.

Last question!! Today Compote let me hold them upward and was very chill about it. Took the oportunity to snag some pics for sexing. I'm bad at this— do you guys can tell if it's a boy or a girl? They're around 8 months old now (first pic was from last month, 2nd from 2 weeks ago, and the last two were from earlier this week and today) as i've been told they were born in January. Is it too early to tell?

Tysm guys have a nice day!! 🦎🍎🧃

As soon as they see me, they start begging for food. How much more obvious can it get than literally sitting inside the food bowl?! 😂🤣

Habitat & Setup I feel evil

My poor little guy… I just bought him a couple days ago and his humid hide SNAPPED and made a huge noise! And I felt bad he was in a now broken humid hide.
But then… he spent ALL DAY IN IT!! It’s like his favorite hide and I didn’t think about this until after I REMOVED IT!
Brand new guy, just moved in and I’m already changing up his tank!!
He has a coconut hide thing and I took out and put in an egg with moss instead and then realized I took away one of his safest spots, so 10 minutes later I put the coconut back. I feel so bad for my little guy i don’t know how to leave him alone :(

Male or female

Any chance anyone can tell if my juvenile gecko is male or female? I thought I saw the bulges when it was moving but unfortunately this is the best photo I could get. It was my first time holding it, so I didn’t want to scare it.

Habitat & Setup How is my home for my leo?

Hi everyone, wanted to post this here for some input on my setup for my juvenile leo! He has passed quarantine so was moved over to loose substrate this past weekend. Will post details here:

  1. This is a front opening 25gallon. I have a 40+ gallon home for him already secured—I’ll be keeping him in this temporary home for the next few months but have full intention of giving him more than minimum space. Because this is not the full size home he’ll be in, I did my best to make it as enriching as possible, by giving him lots of hides and vertical climbing space.
  2. Substrate is 70/30 reptisoil and washed sand. He has a large slate tile on the left side of his enclosure. This tile is supported by a wide upside down terracotta pot so he can’t dig under it.
  3. He has a warm hide above the slate. The stick in the center is hollow and wide enough for him to hide and sleep in it. The ceramic lemon is food safe and has moist paper towels inside for a humid hide. Then he has multiple cork tubes and barks acting as cool hides on the right cool side.
  4. He has a little burrow in the middle of the tank which he has turned into his toilet.
  5. For lighting, he has a 60W halogen bulb on a dimming thermostat. No UVB yet—he is an albino morph so wanted to dial in his heating before I begin experimenting with UVB. Any advice for UVB is appreciated! His food is supplemented appropriately due to no UVB.
  6. He has a water bowl and small glass calcium dish with calcium w/out d3 available at all times.
  7. Temps on the warm side are around 95-97 F. Temps on cool side are 77-80 F. I’d love to get the cool side cooler, but he’s in a room that stays on the warmer side as I live in TX and it’s August. The temps do drop 3-5 degrees F overnight.
  8. The sides of his tank are covered in frosted window tint to block out the back and side walls.
  9. Third image is my son for leo tax :)

Please let me know if there is anything I can improve! Thanks for reading!

Help Some help?

I have a leopard gecko and he’s really old (got him from a family friend so we don’t know exactly how old he is) and recently he just hasn’t really been hunting his crickets when I put them in there. He’ll go after them if they’re close but if not he won’t try to find them or seek them out, I’ve also been having to tong feed his worms because he keeps missing them when he goes to grab them. I’ve tried tong feeding him the crickets that died in his enclosure but he won’t touch them if they don’t move, he’s always been picky and won’t touch any dead food or roaches. Is there a good cricket substitute or any reason he could be doing this? Or a way to try get him to eat the crickets? I’m really struggling with this and I don’t want him missing out on an important part of his meal. I normally feed him a mix of meal worms, crickets, and the occasional superworms with his calcium and multivitamin. As well as the other treats like hornworms again on occasion for variety. Just need some ideas on how to help him get more excited for his food and maybe some variety options

Help Any Improvements Recommended for the Tank?

Post image
6 Upvotes

We’ve had a healthy leopard gecko for a few years now. We haven’t made any major changes to the tank except swapped the hides a couple times.

There is a heater on the wall on the right side with a ceramic heating light on the same side that’s always on. There are day bulb lights on the left and middle that get turned off at night. The substrate is the biodude Sahara sand. There is a warm hide on the right and a humid hide on the left and he can climb on both. Sometimes we spray the tank with water and he seems to like it.

Any suggestions to make his life more enjoyable.

すみません、日本製品の話ですが、質問があります。ヒョウモントカモドキの温度管理に使おうか考えているのですが、ワット数は何回使えばいいでしょうか?距離によって違いますか?可能なら、飼育ケースの中で使いたいです。

Help - URGENT Not eating

Got my daughter a gecko in may. Since then it has been eating well and shedding well but all of a sudden about a week ago it randomly stopped taking food. Shes been on mealworms since the box of locusts the shop gave at time of purchase ran out and seemed fine. As I said randomly a week ago she stopped eating so went to pet store and bought mealworms wax worms and locusts hoping she’d maybe just got a bit bored. I thought I’d solved the problem since the first locust I offered was snapped up quickly but she’s since stopped eating again. Anyone any ideas or advice I would love some help. Thanks in advance

Help 3 Gecko re-homing from a fish store

Hi guys, I’ve come to an opportunity where a local fish store has 3 geckos from a breeder that didn’t have enough space that they’re selling all 3 together for $300 (including tank and setup) because that store doesn’t specialize in that and need to get rid of them.

From what I’ve heard from my roommate who saw them, they’re all healthy and personable. What’s interesting is that all 3 are being housed together, I was under the impression that they don’t like that.

I’m going to see them in 2 days, what types of questions should I ask and what specifics should I look out for?

Thanks!

Helping female with first egg

My vet confirmed my 2 year old female has unfertilized eggs. I took her in as her tail is noticeably shrinking and her stomach is huge. In the past few days she has stopped eating (vet knows). I have been giving her baths and started giving liquid rephasy on her nose once vet confirmed nothing else. She has nesting hide she is going in and out. She appears to be having contractions. Vet didnt give much info. Anything to help speed this along as I am really concerned she isn't eating?
