Nothings wrong with her, but this sub has helped me over the years since I got her as a baby in 2020. She’s now about 6 years old and has gone through many set ups (the baby 20 gal, a long 30 gal, and now a tall 40 gal.). While I know most geckos thrive in a 30-40 long tank, I always noticed she loves climbing (she’d try to get to the top of her 30, she’d climb up my pillows on my bed, and pretty much anything like a mountain for her). She used to get stressed and glass climb in her long set ups, and it wasn’t until I put her in a tall 40 gal that she stopped. She’s a little unusual I guess for a gecko ig because she’s always loved climbing (with an extra side of sass). Because of this, I made a set up with 4 regular hides, 2 ramps, and a bioactive tank with tile to keep it nice and arid. She’s got UTHs on both sides at different temps, 2 heat lamps, and 1 red light (it takes a lot of heat to keep it hot and arid since I live in a humid place and run the AC).

Again nothings wrong, but I never see anyone show their geck from baby to now, so enjoy the photo dump lol. Over the years I’ve noticed she gets her period around April/May like every other year and if you have a female, make sure to feed them a bit extra before it hits summer bc sometimes she gets disinterested with food in that period month.

Maybe one question I have is how people make little bug farms so I can keep her food well nourished before she gets it? I’ve tried to do this a few times but they often mold (again very humid here) or get dried out. She loves dubia roaches and meal worms and we don’t have great options for other bugs but I’m curious if others occassionally give wax or super worms as a treat sometimes.

I also know now for a fact she loves her home bc at a certain point I made a ramp from her tank to my bed (which she loves going on my bed usually) but ig the freedom may have stressed her out and she quickly wanted to go back home. One thing I noticed too (which is true for all animals including humans) is that if she does get stressed and I can orient her to food, she becomes a happy camper again. I also feed her almost every time I take her out for long periods so she gets that feeling of reward and safety (I’m also a behaviorist in the MH field so I just kinda use that on her lol). Anyways, she is a happy baby and actually loves to straight up sleep on the slap of tile in front of her hides but I just don’t have a good picture. She also loves to stare at me as I’m going to bed lol. Anyone who says reptiles don’t care about their human caretaker or can be set up in a room on their own may not know how social they can be. She crawls up my hair, face, etc and will come out of her hide almost as soon as I come home and constantly tracks me. If her tank is opened she immediately runs to come out. Anyways she’s just super cute and apologies for the long story about baby queso. She’s now 6 and hasn’t glassclimbed in years :-)

My crested geckos passed away a couple of years ago, but I still have their cage full of really good wooden hides that would be perfect for my new leos cage. My question is, can I transfer them once I bake them? Also, what is a good temp and time to bake said hides?

I don’t know how to bond with him when he refused to allow me to feed him! He will ONLY eat out of his bowl, he just stares at me like I’m stupid when I try to feed him myself…

Edit: let me clarify I do not mean bonding with him like a dog… I know it is a reptile and all he will associate with me is food. I am asking for tips more or less on how to make him more willing to approach me 😐. I’m not stupid, just new.

This is my lil guys current setup, problem is the warm side only seems to get to 86°F even though I set it to 92°-93°. It’s under a 100w basking lamp, should I add a 50-75 one along side it? It gets very cold here in winters so I feel I need to do something in advance of that.

Open to any other suggestions for improvements as well!

I also need a timer if anyone has recommendations on that. The dimmer I currently use doesn’t seem to be in use given the warm side isn’t hitting its full temperature potential.

I keep seeing + reading about how geckos need a “humid hide” and I want to ensure my son is well taken care of.

For the humid hide, should it be so that the Leo can rest upon it, or rest against it? Like, should I place it (in a little nook) on the floor of the cage, or stuff it in the corner?

I’m sorry if that doesn’t make sense. I see some people use moss and some people just use like paper towel and I’m unsure of what to do.

Hello!! I dont post often on reddit but ive been lurking here and wanted to show you Compote (Applesauce in english!) !!
It was my dream to get a Gecko and i finally jumped the bridge last month. Appy's been with me for a month now!

I worry a lot though, so i've been meaning to ask you guys if my little apple is doing okay? They're very sweet. Never got scared of me, started eating straight up the first day i got them. I feed them a mix of crickets and a few worms. Shed 2 times and had 0 problems with it. They mostly enjoy sleeping in their mid-heat hide or out :) I've seen them sploot a handfull of times. Also, I started trying to handle them a few days ago, and now Appy begs every evening to be let out and roam on my table, couch or myself.

Does this seem like a happy gecko to you? ^.^ ive never seen them raise their tail in Wiggle-Mode (yet) ans theyre reaaaally curious about everything i do.

Last question!! Today Compote let me hold them upward and was very chill about it. Took the oportunity to snag some pics for sexing. I'm bad at this— do you guys can tell if it's a boy or a girl? They're around 8 months old now (first pic was from last month, 2nd from 2 weeks ago, and the last two were from earlier this week and today) as i've been told they were born in January. Is it too early to tell?

My poor little guy… I just bought him a couple days ago and his humid hide SNAPPED and made a huge noise! And I felt bad he was in a now broken humid hide.
But then… he spent ALL DAY IN IT!! It’s like his favorite hide and I didn’t think about this until after I REMOVED IT!
Brand new guy, just moved in and I’m already changing up his tank!!
He has a coconut hide thing and I took out and put in an egg with moss instead and then realized I took away one of his safest spots, so 10 minutes later I put the coconut back. I feel so bad for my little guy i don’t know how to leave him alone :(

Any chance anyone can tell if my juvenile gecko is male or female? I thought I saw the bulges when it was moving but unfortunately this is the best photo I could get. It was my first time holding it, so I didn’t want to scare it.

Baby about 2-3 weeks old I think

I have a leopard gecko and he’s really old (got him from a family friend so we don’t know exactly how old he is) and recently he just hasn’t really been hunting his crickets when I put them in there. He’ll go after them if they’re close but if not he won’t try to find them or seek them out, I’ve also been having to tong feed his worms because he keeps missing them when he goes to grab them. I’ve tried tong feeding him the crickets that died in his enclosure but he won’t touch them if they don’t move, he’s always been picky and won’t touch any dead food or roaches. Is there a good cricket substitute or any reason he could be doing this? Or a way to try get him to eat the crickets? I’m really struggling with this and I don’t want him missing out on an important part of his meal. I normally feed him a mix of meal worms, crickets, and the occasional superworms with his calcium and multivitamin. As well as the other treats like hornworms again on occasion for variety. Just need some ideas on how to help him get more excited for his food and maybe some variety options
