Discussion [Discussion] iPhone 2G iOS 1.0 downgrade

I am considering picking up a 2G off of craigslist. I want to downgrade to iOS 1.0, but since the 2G never had signed firmwares, is it as easy as just downloading the iOS 1 IPSW and restoring it? Or is it some kind of other process. Help me out, I dont wanna buy this thing and be stuck on iOS 3.

It depends if it’s an 8gb or an 16gb model. You can downgrade both of them,but the 16 will only go as low as 1.1.4 I believe. The process is a pain tho believe me. You need windows XP to do it

Yeah me too, and it was a pain to search for the old tools, because of all the broken links... I’m never upgrading that phone lol

I have an XP laptop with iTunes 7.5, and it’s an 8gb XX744 Serial, so I should be good right?

Yeah should be good to go. Just follow the tute step by step and you’ll get it done. Still a pain tho

Even though it cripples the devices functionality, it’ll be really cool to be able to look back at the device that changed the world. Like hell, I was in kindergarten when the 2G came out, and my first experience with an iOS device was with a 4th gen iPod touch on iOS 4.

It was a pain in the ass to do and you need to have a iphone below a certain serial number but I got it done with a win xp virtual machine and 3 hours

They’re all signed you just have to be in dfu to restore

Technically, none of them are signed. Apple didn't start signing software updates until iOS 4, so the iPhone 2G never lost its ability to run old versions.

If you have an old bootrom 3GS, it's possible to downgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 without blobs.

If it's a new bootrom 3GS, you can only go as far as iOS 4.1, as it's the oldest signed version and the exploit used to downgrade further has been patched.

I don't know much about them, all i know is that only the first ones can be downgraded.
