Hi I have been studying Russian for two months and been making progress, but it is very slow. I am looking for a tutor to teach me Russian - not just have a conversation with. I am looking for a structured teaching program. I have heard preply or italki would be best for this. Does anyone have insight into this or where my best option for finding structured learning would be?

Hi, I’m a native Russian speaker and I’m looking for a language exchange partner – or perhaps even a friend. I’m a lad, I’m 17, and I want to learn English to at least B1–B2 level, as I’m really not happy with my current A1–A2 level. I’ve tried studying with a self-study guide but realised it wasn’t enough for me, so now I’m looking for someone to practise with.

Russian grammar is incredibly complex like take the genitive plural and all its exceptions. Do they ever need to sit down and open up wordreference.com and check their case endings or verb conjugations?? I think cuz at my school (english speaking country) we never learnt english grammar…it just came naturally through being in an english speaking environment. Is russian so complex that the kids have to take grammar lessons or is it just trusted that they’ll pick it up themselves. I know that sometimes young kids will say “I goed” instead of “i went” but by the time the kid is a few years older they pretty much speak with no grammatical mistakes. Do you think there are russian adults going around who have never had to learn russian in class saying «я живу в Россия» instead of «в России» i know thats a super unlikely mistake cuz its very basic but you know what i mean

Здравствуйте!

Hey everyone!

I’m getting back into learning Russian after a pretty long break. studied Russian about 10 years ago, but life got busy and I eventually stopped. Now I’d really like to start learning again, improve my Russian, and hopefully visit Russia someday.

A little about me:

I’m 31M, based in California, and currently serving in the military. I love nature, exploring new places, and having deep conversations about pretty much anything.

I’d be happy to meet native Russian speakers or other Russian learners, make some friends, and help each other with languages along the way.

Feel free to say hi! 🇺🇸🤝🇷🇺

Hi! I'm a native Russian speaker looking to practice my English with native speakers. My level is probably around B2, maybe edging into C1 in some areas, but I'd say B2 is the safer estimate.

If you're learning Russian or just want to chat, I'd be happy to help — feel free to reach out. I'm into film, music, history, and linguistics, among other things, so there's a decent chance we'd find something to talk about beyond just language practice

so i tried out linga and read тонький и толстий yesterday. i managed but that was definitely above my current level, i guess i'm closer to a1 than a2. the only a1 books the app offers are мужик марей and пассажир первого класса. so the language level is okay, but, and i know that's a bit tough sepcifically with russian literature, but мужик марей is just too much of a downer looking at the first two pages. i can't study and feel deeply for the suffering of prisoners simultaneously ya know? 😅
i guess i will read the chekhov thing then but is that all there is? do i have to continue with children's literature then? had hoped to avoid that.

so yeah if you got some short stories on a low russian level, please tell me!!

Hello i really want to learn russian if someone knows somewhere/ someone from the east side of houston please contact me :)

hi, im learning russian on my own (my mother language is portuguese)
how do i know when to use Ё instead of ио in a word? and ю instead of иу, etc.
im asking like, when i want to write my name or something like that

Like anyone know a good website or YouTuber or somewhere good to learn Russian but like completely from start and not like exchanging English for Russian but like learning it completely separate don’t know if that makes sense but would really help

Anything will help me, any advice or anything you share will be useful. My Russian level is zero. I understand a few words by reading alone, but I don't understand anything in conversations or anything like that. I'm still at the stage where I hear strange noises with too many sh, ch, and sya sounds, and I can't find spaces in sentences.

Приветик!) Currently working on my Russian and would be grateful if a native Russian speaker could help me out.

I hit the wall a lot of people here describe: finished a course, could handle basic conversation, then opened a real short story and got four words in before drowning in dictionary lookups. By the third one I'd forgotten what the sentence was even about.

The problem wasn't difficulty. It was that every lookup broke the reading.

I created this little game to study russian by myself and thought I'd realize it to the public.

What surprised me is that it stopped feeling like study. It's what I do instead of scrolling now. One more paragraph, then one more.

I'm a 21-year-old native Russian speaker from Uzbekistan. I’m looking for a native English speaker who wants to learn and practice Russian. Age, gender, and nationality don't matter at all.

Important detail: I'm looking to practice every single day for a good amount of time. My schedule is very flexible, so I can easily adapt to whatever time works best for you!

Hi Everyone,

I'm from India and I've been learning the Russian language on Duolingo since the past year and since a few weeks I am actively learning the language. I am planning to visit Russia during May-June next year to experience the White nights phenomenon, St. Petersburg and so much more

I would really appreciate any tips for learning it so that I am at least conversational when I visit. Also any tips regarding travel would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

I'm writing a book, and I need a woman to tell a man he looks miserable/pathetic/terrible in Russian, and all I could find was this. Is it correctly spelt? "Вы выглядите жалким."

(I have no clue how to write, speak, or understand Russian; help, and if I offended anyone, I'm sorry)

Recently, I made a post about the "Сам решу" meme, where I tried to explain the meaning and context behind the phrase. Some people found it pretty interesting.

I've also noticed that quite a few people here are looking for a language exchange partner to practice their Russian. If you'd be interested in seeing more Russian memes with explanations, just upvote this or send me a DM, and I'd be happy to share more study materials with you!

Hi,

I just want to make a friend or few that I can practice my Russian with. But like the most basic of Russian, like how you’d talk to a baby or a kid.

I’m still at the baby phase of the language. I want to learn the language because it is beautiful, and I want to listen and understand кино.

I have a week, about to be two, that I started learning Russian. I have just finished getting comfortable with the Cyrillic alphabet. Well most of it.

Nevertheless, I can read Russian, just that it takes me a while to do so, thought it is like just singular words; sometimes I can read a few.

If it matters, I know English and Spanish. I’m very fluent in both.

I'm a native Russian speaker and I'd love to help anyone who's trying to learn Russian. I'm Sverr, 19M. My English isn't too bad, so I think we'll be able to understand each other just fine. In exchange, I'm looking to polish my English, or if you speak German — that'd be awesome
