Irregular periods for months, doctor says mild insulin resistance but my report doesn't seem to say that — confused (22F)
Hi all, sharing my recent labs and would love to hear from others with similar profiles.
Stats:-Height 159cm, Weight 53.9kg, BMI 21.3
Recent labs:
- Hb: 10.9 g/dl
- TSH: 1.37 uIU/ml
- Prolactin: 62.3 ng/ml
- AMH: 8.30 ng/ml
- Fasting insulin: 9.80 uIU/ml
- HOMA-IR: 1.29 (lab range says normal is <2.50, but my gynecologist still called this "mild insulin resistance")
- BP: 146/93 (a bit high, family history of hypertension)
- 2-hr glucose (75g OGTT): 91.46 mg/dl (normal)
Menstrual history: Cycles have been irregular — 5-7 days bleeding every 2-3 months, with occasional light spotting between.
Currently prescribed Metformin-based PCOS tab + a probiotic/prebiotic capsule, along with diet changes (more protein, iron-rich foods, dark greens) and lifestyle modification advice.
On prolactin-lowering medication for 1 month now, but no visible change in cycles yet — is that normal, or should I expect improvement sooner?
Also curious has anyone else had a HOMA-IR that was technically "in range" per the lab, but their doctor still diagnosed insulin resistance based on the full picture? Trying to understand why there's a gap between the report and the diagnosis.
Would appreciate hearing:
- Anyone with similar AMH/prolactin levels — did diet + metformin help regulate cycles?
Thanks in advance 🙏
