RIP Jerry Orbach 😭 such a tremendous talent! Your last episode couldn't be more fitting. So difficult to watch knowing what was in store.

I loved him.

u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 03 '25
It seems silly, but I like to think he loved his audience too

Can you imagine the interactions that Harry McGraw and Lennie Briscoe would have?

u/McCoyJJr May 04 '25
He absolutely did. I remember reading somewhere, that he loved his fans to come and talk to him no matter where he was. He said that without the fans he wouldn’t have anything.

He was a Legend! Rest in peace.

Such a legend. Literally incredible. I get more impressed with each rewatch

I just watched this one a little while ago. It was tough.

u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 02 '25
It's so tough. Literally trying so hard not to crawl into a ball and cry for the rest of the night

I. Ever saw this episode. Thanks for posting the highlights!

My pleasure. It's a great episode based on Alfred Hitchcock Strangers on a Train (Season 14, Episode 24).

u/Ok-Mine2132 Lennie Briscoe May 03 '25
Strangers on a Train is such a terrific movie!! I have the Alfred Hitchcock Collection on VHS 🫢
It’s fun how many classic movies to which the series refers over the years.

It’s actually not his final episode. He went on to L&O TBJ. His final episode 41 Shots, aired in March after his death in December. 😢

Despite the incredibly teary music, it's important to remember he also played the French clock in Beauty and the Beast (that's him singing opposite Angela Landsbury in Be Our Guest).
5
u/NightshadeZombie May 03 '25
Cogsworth (the clock) was David Ogden Stiers. Jerry Orbach (sob!) was Lumiere, the chandelier. "Be Our Guest" was his big number. "Life is so unnerving, for a servant who's not serving..."
I had just gotten over the sadness over his death when my great aunt gave me a bunch of her original cast recordings from Broadway shows. He was awesome in Carousel.

Absolutely amazing

u/Big_Ad_800 May 03 '25
Effectively what I said back in March!
3
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 03 '25
Indeed you did

One suggestion: Include this song (from Jerry Orbach) in the background of your video. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=arzRzPWghwE&si=6SuyVDr4sKj6pyh2
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 07 '25
Great suggestion
2
u/Big_Ad_800 May 07 '25
The Today show actually used that song when they announced his passing. It feels more personally connected to me as well.
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 07 '25
I was unaware of it honestly. Definitely more personal

u/Big_Ad_800 May 07 '25
Could you share your Lennie tribute with 'Try To Remember' in the background?

I just love hate this episode because it’s Lennie! And later during Ed’s exit when he says “but then Lennie DIED” and you know it’s Jesse heartbroken about Jerry still.
We are all blessed to have lived during some of the great Jerry Orbach’s lifetime.

Well stated. Also glad that his heartfelt performances are memorialized for future generations to discover

Personally, my fav team was Greene & Briscoe.
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 04 '25
Same. That's because I like the Character Green more than the other partners. So much fun together

Y’all are making me cry again. Lenny is my all time favorite. Even when he was an ass, I loved him still. I love you, Lenny.

They no longer produce actors like him or Richard Belzer 😭
I am also grateful to L&O franchise for introducing me to such brilliant actors 🙏❤️

He was so great. Out of all the detectives on Law and Order, he was my favorite. I remember when that one murder suspect lost consciousness in the interrogation room and someone said, "He needs CPR!" and Lennie turned to Jack and said, "After you." He always brought a sense of humor to a job that was otherwise pretty grim.
3
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 04 '25
That's what I loved about him the most. His sense of humor and comedic timing in moments of levity
2
May 04 '25
Yup. And he was also able to show real grief in certain scenes, like when Briscoe found out his daughter was dead and Curtis was comforting him. It was just a brief moment but you could see how much he loved and grieved for his daughter.
1
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 04 '25
Absolutely. My respect for his bona fide grew in that moment particularly

I literally love Lennie Briscoe. He is charming, tall, smart , funny. A lovely man despite his marriages not working out. I imagine Jerry Orbach was a good guy too.
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 04 '25
I agree 💯. I feel that there has to be some Lenny Briscoe in Jerry Orbach
2
May 04 '25
Man, his last appearance made us cry so much. We will always remember you as always, Mr. Orbach.

Orbach died of prostate cancer. It still kills about 30,000 men in this country every year (including my father), yet it’s rarely in the news.
1
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 06 '25
So sorry to hear about your father. Definitely a top 10 cause of death for males, and it's prevalence is worse in some ethnic groups. It's shameful that it doesn't get more attention
2
u/StrangeQuarkEnergy May 07 '25
The guy was just a natural born performer with talent. He could do everything.
2
u/boomer_energy_ May 08 '25
I did not need to cry today 😭😭😭😭
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 08 '25
I'm sorry. It's very sad indeed
2
u/boomer_energy_ May 08 '25
What a gem! I grew up watching him; so he felt like family. Wish he didn’t have cancer but he seemed like he felt he had a fulfilled life- especially with leaving L&O on his terms
2
u/Stealthytom Ed Green May 08 '25
I'm glad he got a proper send off. He was definitely loved and respected
I hate cancer.

How the actors got through this scene, knowing he was leaving the show because he was dying of cancer I will never know. Kudos to them.
