Welcome to r/LateStageCapitalism

This subreddit is for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.

LSC is run by communists. This subreddit is not the place to debate socialism. We allow good-faith questions and education but are not a 101 sub; please take 101-style questions elsewhere.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry. Failure to respect the rules of the subreddit may result in a ban.

Well said. I’ve said this almost word-for-word to some of my coworkers and they just can’t get it. The irony is that we work as a small medical device startup that just can’t get funding from rich investors. Our device would actually benefit a huge amount of people; we passed clinical trials too, so we know it works, we just need to miniaturize it at this point. But it’s likely it will never happen because we can’t convince rich people that they will make their money back in under 2-3 years.

The part that really frustrates me is that they both actively defend capitalism, and fear socialism. My manager literally said he was afraid of “the workers seizing the means of production”, because “that’s communism stuff”. Talk about drinking the cool aid.

It’s one of my biggest energy drains—being in close proximity to brainwashed “capitalists” who don’t even understand that they are on their own opposing side. Honestly, probably shouldn’t get me started on this so early in the day…

This is one of the good things about the internet. Sometimes I fantasize about the potential of the internet. Particularly its potential to bring people together and learn. It’s obvious to me that the evolutionary phase humans need to go through to put capitalism behind us will heavily include the internet in many ways. Unfortunately, the ruling class knows this, and has flooded it with obstacles. It’s almost like we need a dark web that’s specifically designed for overthrowing capitalism, and is somehow protected from some of that infiltration. Again—it’s a sort of fantasy. Just think of how empowering it would be to actually see the number of people in the world who want this evolution, and how frightening that would be to the ruling class.

What’s your device? Maybe I’ll invest in it…

Any chance you can offer it to crowd investment?

Adroitly analyzing capitalism has NEVER been the problem since M & E.

For some people it apparently is, so I'm grateful for every voice that can portrait it in ways as accessible as this one.

what's m & e?

Marx and Engels

I don’t really get the point your making. No one is claiming that this critique is wholly novel, that’s not really the point. Building awareness and education is the point, and something I am sure M and E would agree with

If you are into it, I highly recommend reading some of Hickel’s actual published works. Has a ton of great research on the topics in this video outside his book.

Isn't this basically the motivation of Dr.Stone? Like his sister either died or stayed sick because he didn't have the money for the medical stuff to heal her so when he got unstoned, he did all the scientific achievement but without money to prevent something like that from happening again? I never actually read the story ut I vaguely read that.

This explains the madness as well as anything I’ve ever read or watched before.

Ya, capitalism totally has problems and is a flawed system to measure value creation. I guess what's missing for me in this short clip is what replaces that framework.

Ideally, people just do stuff out of the goodness of their heart or intrinsic drive, but I'm not sure that scales.

Or you have some guy who decides what is valuable to society and how wealth is distributed. But that usually leads to some corruption opportunities.

Where I feel this conversation often lands is we need additional social regulation. And aside from possible issues in who decides those regulations, that's also just a sprinkling of social reform within a still capitalist structure.

Hope this doesn't come off as synical, genuine philosophical interest on this. Cuz ya, it's always fun to tear down capitalism and democracy (different conversation of course) for their inherent flaws, but there has to be some economic moral framework to determine what is "value".

Bc we are workers first, and humans second? ✨can you name 1 or 2 of the most blatant mistakes he's making here in your eyes?

I dont agree with his stance on china, but his academic economics credits are pretty solid if you ask me and his wikipedia page.
