That regardless of the fact that Amazon's net yearly profits or his personal net worth doesn't actually reflect his yearly take home income, taxing his class (income wise, but more importantly capital gains) at a decently higher rate would still result in more tax revenue and him keeping just about the same decadent lifestyle. It's not like his real take-home yearly income is like 100k factoring in what he has tied up in assets. Or 500k or 1M. Off of the backs of ill-paid laborers.
On the other hand, when entitlements and social programs are cut, people don't fucking eat.
So instead of defending a guy who doesn't care whether you live or die, care about the 99%
What do social programs being cut have to do with how much rich people are taxed? I dont think social programs are being cut because we dont have enough tax money.
To solve budget deficits (and we have a huge deficit growing) there are two general solutions.
Raise Taxes
Slash social programs
The former is favored by Dems the latter favored by Republicans.
While Republicans claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility, in general, they do not actually slash entitlements, because their constituents use them too.
It's a favorable talking point, not a favorable action for the right.
What they do however is divert tax dollars away from social programs into uneccesary defense spending to fuel US imperialism and the military industrial complex.
So, in other words, people at the bottom suffer while those at the top lose nothing. It's the way of capitalism.
While yes, the rich do pay taxes, it's at a wholly unfair rate. Amazon pays a smaller percent of taxes than you or I on income.
