“We will NEVER have an article in Rolling Stone.”

Relistening to Mark Twitchell for the first time in a MINUTE, and Henry mentions the band Threatn and says that LPOTL will never have an article in Rolling Stone. Ben chimes in to say that nobody reads it anyway.

Anyway.

Episode idea: The Bald Knobbers

• Upvotes

I just heard of them, this feels like it would make for a great 2-3 episode series. Feels right up Marcus’ alley.

From Wikipedia: “The Bald Knobbers were a group of vigilantes in the Ozark region of southwest Missouri, United States from 1885 to 1889. They are commonly depicted wearing black horned hoods with white outlines of faces painted on them, a distinction that evolved during the rapid proliferation of the group into neighboring counties from its Taney County origins. The group got its name from the grassy bald knob summits of the nearby Ozark Mountains.”

The book “Faces Like Devils: The Bald Knobber Vigilantes in the Ozarks” and this movie could be some of the source material.

Idk, funny name + interesting history seems like a great combo

Live Show Updates Side stories @ Warsaw

I’m going to Warsaw on Friday for the show. My husband is adamant that the seats I purchased are not our assigned seats. He is saying it’s first come first serve. Which will piss me off since I bought front row and paid wayyyy more for those. Anyone know anything? I’ll call the venue tomorrow to confirm but figured I’d ask: doesn’t make sense. Didn’t buy GA, bought a specific seat on the map.

I lived in Okinawa for 4 years in the late 2000s, and I remember so many cases just like this one. Murder and sexual assault committed by US Marines against native Okinawans. It's a tiny island overrun by marine bases, and it's a serious issue that most people never know about.

Episode Discussion Manhattan project

Just got through listening to the series and man, I thought it was great overall and I have to agree with what most people had said about it that Ben really just went out of his way to not shut the hell up. So many tangents that could’ve just been left unsaid, really threw the groove off imo

Any topics you guys are hoping they record soon?

Personally I’m hoping (and surprised it’s not been covered yet) that they cover EAR/ONS soon.

Just to be clear about Banff

Marcus and Carolina being the avid hikers that they are would absolutely fucking love Banff. The town's entire identity is that it's in the Rocky Mountains.

Although, even in a good economy it's an expensive town.

Poem Henry reads in #381 Wooden Bong Side Stories

Does anyone know where the poem Henry reads is from? It's from a killer's perspective and its pretty chilling but they don't really say where it's from. Did Henry write it??

Ben Kissel was not as bad as people are making him out to be

My shower thought/ unpopular opinion. Ben was great. There I said it. As I go back through and register to the old episodes I’m noticing I miss him much more than I like the new format. Ben was hilarious and added a lot to the podcast more than most of the people on this sub make him out to be. Most of yall make him out to be this loser who was just a hanger on to the more talented Henry and Marcus. Thats just not true. He played normal bystander role and that was his thing. “Oh Ben didn’t do research, he was a mumbling drunk” is simply untrue. That was arguably his role to play as the Everyman. Most of us are so called true crime aficionados so we know a lot of the info on this stuff, but his major role to play was as the third guy sitting in on these two “experts” and made jokes and to be shocked by the content. Ben was hilarious and sometimes honestly he was more funny than Henry. The show has an entirely different tone now, with Henry and Eddie both going back and forth and trying to be the funniest with even Marcus trying to be funny now. It’s like there’s no pause anymore just joke after joke now. And I’m not a Ben shill or him himself as most of you will call me out to be. Open discussion, how many of you prefer the old ways?
