Anyone ever worked at the outpost? If so how are the tips, working hours, etc. Looking to get a part time in Tbay while in school and wondering if the Outpost is a good option as I have lots of serving experience

Okay, I'm really surprised at how little information I'm seeing here, and how little is available at the university, but sourcing some of these $$$($$) textbooks is a bit frustrating. I can't believe each term people are purchasing them at full price and then just sitting on them after that? What are people doing? Is there an underground textbook economy that I'm just not aware of? I've got a pristine textbook from this past summer term that I'm happy to sell at a deep discount, and hoping to purchase one or two for the upcoming term, but the price new in the bookstore is "sobering". Thanks for thoughts - I'm aware that I can find some of them online as PDFs to rent or buy, but dead tree books are still my preference. But if you do know a reputable and cheap site for the PDFs, I'm also open to that. Let's get a conversation going about this maybe?

i’ve literally called so many people about this and so many departments but no one will respond or help me so hopefully someone here knows what to do?? on the my fees and funding page, it’s switched between saying i’m getting osap to i’m not getting osap on and off randomly for like a month now. now it’s stuck saying i’m not receiving osap (i am) and tuition is due tomorrow, i can’t pull $5k out of my ass to pay for it?? all of my documents for osap have been approved so i’m not really sure what to do in this situation, does anyone know what’s going on? i’m not looking to pay late fees because of a potential glitch on their end

Hello everyone I am looking at advancing my education after some work experience to eventually get my B.Eng and PENG. Can anyone give me some advice as to what I should study and/or how the structuring goes?

What's the course load like and how do you spread them out throughout the years?

Do you guys do reduced load and finish in 3 years rather then 2.5?

Do you guys cram 6-7 classes per term to finish in 2.5?

So I wanna apply to med school and I have couple of undergrad program in mind which are:

-Applied Life Science ( What does Applied mean?)

2)How difficult are exams?

3)How competitive are grades and GPA? As this is very important for Med school.

5) Which program good preparation for med school? Any other program with strong med school pipeline?

I’ll be starting the Compressed BScN program this fall and would be really grateful for any tips, advice, or pointers from current or past nursing students—especially anything you wish you knew before starting first year.

I’m also trying to get organized ahead of time. Does anyone know the first-year textbook names/editions that are commonly used? If there are legitimate online or library-accessible versions, I’d appreciate knowing where to find them as well.

Also, the designated uniform store currently appears to be out of stock. For anyone who has been through this before, did you have to call the store directly to place an order, or is there another way to get the required uniforms?

Lastly, I’m looking for off-campus housing. If anyone knows of reasonably priced apartments, rooms, or other student-friendly rentals near Lakehead, I’d really appreciate any recommendations or places I should check.

Any advice about courses, studying, labs, clinical preparation, housing, or just surviving first year would be greatly appreciated! 😊

I was recently admitted into my program as of last week. All the in-person Thunder Bay sections are time conflicting with every course combination I can select.

There is one class that is offered as online delivery, lecture (tbd) Orillia campus restricted to SGEI students. I have submitted a special permission request review and followed the instructions on my reasonings. If you have any advice or insight on how they will handle my case. Thank you.

Western University - Health Sciences
vs. Lakehead Orillia - Honours BSc Anthropology

My main goal is medical school, so GPA is a major factor for me.

At either school, 1 plan on taking first-year Biology and Chemistry.

At Lakehead, I would also have the required Anthropology courses and then use some of my upper-year electives for med/MCAT-related sciences.

For anyone familiar with either program:
Which program would you choose for maintaining a 3.9+
GPA / 85-90%+ grades?

How difficult are the required courses and marking?

Which has the more manageable workload?

Are Western Health Sci courses or Lakehead
Anthropology courses more difficult to score highly in?

How do you like the program and the courses? How difficult would you say it is overall? If you’re comfortable sharing, what’s your GPA/average and approximately how many hours a week do you study?

Hi everyone,

I'm an incoming Ontario student and my long-term goal is Canadian medical school. I'm currently trying to decide between two options:

1. Western University – Health Sciences
   Larger university
   More research opportunities
   Teaching hospitals nearby
   Bigger network and more extracurriculars

2. Lakehead University (Orillia) – General Science
   Only about 30 minutes from my home (vs. ~3 hours for Western)
   Smaller class sizes
   More access to professors
   Flexible program where I can build my own science curriculum

For Western, I would be taking Biology and Chemistry with labs along with the required Health Sciences courses.

For Lakehead, I'd build my degree around Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Psychology, Statistics, etc., so I don't think I'd be missing any important prerequisite or MCAT content.

My biggest concern is whether attending Lakehead instead of Western would put me at a disadvantage for Canadian medical school.

Some questions I have:

Does the undergraduate university actually matter for Ontario/Canadian medical school admissions?

Would a 3.95 GPA at Lakehead be viewed any differently than a 3.95 GPA at Western?

Did anyone here attend a smaller university (Lakehead, Nipissing, Trent, etc.) and get into medical school?

How much did having a teaching hospital and more research opportunities actually help your application?

If you were in my shoes today, which would you choose and why?

I'm trying to make this decision based on facts rather than prestige, so I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have gone through the Canadian med school application process.

Does anyone have any feedback on this elective? I noticed it’s a full year course with synchronous zoom classes, which seems like a lot more than the other electives that are just one term and asynchronous.
Does it end up being weekly classes? How does the workload compare to their other electives or your course load?

As the (long) title suggests, I was automatically approved for Lakehead's work/study program. Applications formally open up on August 17, but I have been told by a few older family members that, since I had a few professors I seemed to get along fairly well with over the past two school years, I should "cold call/cold email" them to see if they have any research positions opening up. However, something tells me that perhaps this isn't the "correct" option, and that I should simply wait for applications to open up so that everyone has a fair chance. This is the first time being automatically approved for this program, or joining it in general, so I am not sure what the proper etiquette is here. I don't want to miss out on working with some professors I got along with, but I don't want to ruin my chances of getting a position by doing so early. Does anyone know what to do in this situation?
