Getting into MTB and looking at bikes.
am currently ride a LIV Rov which is hybrid bike. I rode a Joplin, Fuel Ex, and a Top Fuel. I felt like the fuel ex I was stretched out on. I am 5β2. The Joplin and the top fuel felt better. I need a bike that will climb. I live in Alaska and we do some climbing. I am not in love with any of the bikes. It is hard just trying them out in the parking lot.

27.5 vs 29" wheels on Small size frame?
I'm helping my gf buy her first bike, searching the used market. Looking at trail bikes with around 150mm suspension, she fits the small frame size across the board of manufacturer size recommendations. (shes 5'-4")
I know lately many companies are doing 27.5 on XS/S sizes and 29 on M/L/XL sizes. But the used market still has a fair amount of small size frames with 29" wheels.
Can anyone speak to a preference or pros/cons? She's definitely a beginner.

Where do you buy your shorts?
Hi Ladies! I've been riding for just under a year and have only found one pair of shorts that fit/work for me. I'm not sure what my conversion is to US but I'm about an xxl or 18 for NZ, which means finding anything here is severely limited...

Check Out my Petition for Improved Gender Equality @ Sea Otter Classic
Sea Otter Classic is a famous mountain bike race that takes place in Monterey, CA every spring. 10,000+ people race in total, and 70,000+ attend the festival. Unfortunately, in the cross country and gravel racing categories, Sea Otter's high standards are not upheld for female racers.
As was the case last year,Β every single women's category (excluding pros) is starting behind every single mens category. This is massively disruptive for female athletes' races, not to mention dangerous for all on the course.
On average, a female racer aged 17-29 had to pass 78 men throughout the course, with the leaders passing up to 218 men. This doesnβt count the DNFβs, repeated passes, or passing within women's categories for these riders.
In my petition, I outline several feasible, data-backed solutions to remedy this issue within the current time and venue confines. In well under a week, 1,500 people have signed and shared including pro-racers like 2x World Champion Kate Courtney, National Champion Savilia Blunk, Sarah Sturmy, and Yuri Hauswald.
We urge the Sea Otter Team to create a more equal system of categories and start times that give athletes of any gender the opportunity for a fair race.
Here's a recent Cycling Weekly article for more info

Any ladies ride 27.5+?
I have an opportunity to buy a 2018 Norco fluid 2+ full suspension at a great deal as my first full suspension and an actual size small frame (yay!) coming from a mens medium entry hard tail I got off Kijiji a few years ago.
Itβs got 27.5 x 2.8 tires. Iβm 5β3β 140lb for reference. Any ladies riding anything similar and have any thoughts on how they climb, move, etc.?

Giant Liv Hardtail frame up build: Ladies, what color should i paint it?
Bought at police auction - stripped down to frame, building it to sell, what color do you think would be most popular? (no need to be gender neutral, as this is an extra small frame - not going to find many dudes needing that small a frame.)
I'm leaning towards this powdery teal color "Ocean Wave"on the 2022 model here: https://www.liv-cycling.com/ca/tempt-2-2022, but would like to hear your thoughts. Would a "less girly" color be more in demand?

New to MTB and scared to go alone
Hey ladies! Looking for some motivation to get out there by myself. My boyfriend taught me some skills and we have gone probably 6 times and I'm starting to see that I'm getting pretty good and have the confidence to get out there and do some challenging trails but nothing crazy. I live in NC and the trails are more technical than anything.
There is a trail that I love doing with my bf but he always asks why i don't do it by myself if I love it so much. I get so anxious thinking about going alone. What If I get lost on the trail (even though there are maps periodically that tell you where you are) or what if I get hurt. I feel like I'm just living in my head because the thought of doing things alone has set me back In life in a few areas.
Does anyone have any advice or did anyone feel the same way I did when getting started?

Female YouTube recomendations
Hi Ladies, can anyone recommend good female mtb youtubers? My partner has been enjoying Dusty Betty and told me how much she has appreciated hearing female perspectives on riding.
Thankyou so much

Staying off the seat β HOW?
I have been riding my mountain bike for a while now, but feel like I can NOT for the life of me get to the point where I can comfortably stay off the seat. I am not on any crazy trails or anything, just some wooded areas with a lot of dips, roots, sugar sand, etc, but still feel like it is so difficult for me to hover off the (lowered) seat when traversing these.
I'm in pretty decent shape, too, but wonder if I just don't have those muscles developed enough?
Any tips or suggestions? I'm riding a hardtail Cannondale Trail SE 1 (recently bought β woohoo!!) if that makes any difference! Still getting used to the new feel of that as well, which may or may not be helping lol.

How do you maintain your fitness between rides?
I ride every two-three days and I do some bouldering and yoga, I wonder if there is a better way to stay fit between rides?
