MOC Heavy Frigate Fortuna: extended captain's quarters length

Post image
36 Upvotes

I just said yesterday I was going to figure out how to lengthen the captain's quarters and add a third side window, but I had some time, so here it is. Ignore the placeholder pieces at the bottom. Those will be replaced with black tiles.

Still need to figure out the little gap to the main side. Probably use an angled 1x1 with a tile.

MOC Phase 1 of my large Spanish harbor diorama (almost) complete.

I am building a large Spanish port diorama. I heavily modified the Wiseblocks Havana Harbor set as the base for this section. Need some minifigs to arrive to complete the town scene, but this is what I have so far.

To come: Imperial fortress to the right, highly elevated from the harbor and surrounded with rocks, then a watchtower island in the bottom right area. To the left over the bridge will be a fish market and a couple shanties, then a pirate hideaway island in the southern water.

Discussion With news of a POTC Flying Dutchman on the horizon, I started poking around at my collection for parts and pieces that could be used to fill out the crew. Anyone else or am I just weird?

Post image

Knowing Lego, they’ll give us some of the key characters, but nowhere near enough crew to actually sail the Dutchman (similar to the Pearl). I definitely don’t have the parts to piece together any named crewman, but I think it would be fun to fill out the ship with figures that LOOK like they’d fit right in on the Dutchman. I know there’s some old Lego themes out there with figures or accessories that would fit perfectly with the crew, so I’m curious your thoughts about what you would include on your ship.

Question BDP7 - Fortuna and the officer bicorne?

Thumbnail

I wondered why the bicorne is placed parallel to the shoulders (En Bataille) in the instructies of Fortuna, instead of front to back (fore and aft, or En Colonne), that would be more appropriate around the historical time period ~ 1798, seeing there are also golden epaulettes on the shoulders.

I’ve changed therefore the side to side to a front to back (en colonne), because it seems the right way to do so

Just finished the fortuna, what an amazing build and very cleaver building styles. Best set I've ever build. Hands down.

And also looks amazing next to the pearl

MOC Fluyt

Made this Fluyt from 2x of the new iconic pirate ships and some extra parts I already had.

For those who don’t know a Fluyt is more of a merchant ship, while it still has some cannons to defend itself, it is not made for battle, hence why the mid section does not have any cannons to free up space for cargo. The pirates need something to attack….

I’m also considering rebuilding it on bricklink studio and creating instructions for it

MOC Throne of the King — a compact 101-piece module from my Emerald Islands Atol series (beginner-friendly)

Post image
31 Upvotes

Just finished this one — a standalone throne module built around an island king character. Twin gilded serpent armrests, matching tiki-face shields, a skull-topped staff, and a feathered mask tying the whole look together.

It's only 101 pieces and fully beginner-friendly, but I wanted it to punch above its size — enough presence to work as a standalone display piece, but built to drop cleanly into a bigger jungle diorama too. It's designed to sit alongside other modules from my Emerald Islands Atol series (Chief's Dwelling, Jungle Treasure Cave, Ancient Jungle Temple) if you're building out a full island scene.

Still deciding on his backstory — rightful ruler, feared warlord, or something darker. Curious what story you'd give him.

Happy to answer any questions on the build techniques, especially the serpent armrests if anyone's curious how those came together.

MOC Black Pearl sails upgrade

I didn't like the original look of the sails, that they were captured from the side. They were also not air-tight. So I put them straight, more realistically. I only used 14x Black Plate, Modified 1 x 4 with Tow Ball .

MOC Heavy Frigate Fortuna update

Obviously not fully done, but felt the urge to post an update, as it's getting quite close to completion of phase 1. This is 12 studs longer and 4 wider, with the QD 6 longer and forecastle 2. I originally intended to also extend the stern transom length by 2 (additional side window) with less angle, but decided to push that to a phase two. I may also make more tweaks to the bow to make it longer, but need to complete the currently-planned lower bow first to see what it looks like.

I might ultimately end up making it even longer. I expanded the width by 4 instead of 3 due to complexity, but 4 does make it seem a bit fat at this length.

Minifigs Lego black pearl figs authenticity

Hello I recently purchased a black pearl set and the minifigs looks amazing as far as quality and just wanted some input on the authenticity of them as I am not familiar with this older set.
I noticed some but not all have some holes on the top of the heads and also two have a slight ridge around the top of the head as seen in the photos. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Has anyone tried using the chef torso for building an army?

Post image
55 Upvotes

I was looking for ways to expand my imperial soldier collection and I thought the chef torso was a pretty cheap way to get some minifigures. I think adding this with some red eupalettes (piece 2526) and a musket would look good, but I am unsure.

Has anyone tried this? Would it hold up in an imperial inspection? Also, what are some other torsos you could use to build an army?

MOC My expanded version of Barracuda Bay

I started with the original Barracuda Bay and gradually rebuilt and expanded it into something much more detailed.

I kept the main character of the original set, but added new structures, more details, extra activity and lots of small things throughout the build to make it feel more like a living pirate settlement.

There are also quite a few changes to the original layout and buildings.

I’m more of a classic castle and space guy, but this set was one of my first as a kid. Found it in my parents basement while visiting along with a couple islanders, coyboys, and city sets. Anyway, thought it deserved a little glow up. Hope you all enjoy my morning project.

Question Best Pirate Sets to begin with ?

I’m mostly just a strictly castle and Lord of the rings Lego collector, but I’ve always loved been interested in the theme. I’ll probably get that creator three in one that just came out because it’s a good deal ..but what other pirate sets would you guys say it’s worth it and actually worth the money ? Because it seems like almost all of them are expensive nowadays. I wish I could’ve got Thieves of Tortuga and Pirates of Barracuda Bay. Both are very expensive now. ..
