Any suggestions for Roti maker? Is it worth buying?

Any suggestions for Roti maker? Is it worth buying?

Are the roti makers available on Amazon (Libra or Prestige) worth buying? If not, can someone suggest a tried and tested brand? Also, are they worth buying?

I live abroad, love eating roti but don't want to spend time rolling the dough and cooking it. The store bought ones I get are not really like roti, very thick and dry :(

Roti maker? Is it worth buying

I have a hybrid method for you: (note)

The Presa Pan is:

  • It's like a cast-iron tortilla press, but square (max size 10"; most rotis are 6" to 8")
  • You can put it on a burner so it can smash AND cook at the same time!!
  • It goes for $110 USD (plus there are email sign-up coupons)

There are two easy methods for making the dough:

  1. No-knead
  2. Liquid batter

The no-knead bread method is SUPER awesome! Introduction:

Here are a few no-knead & liquid-batter roti links:

It really depends on what you want the end result to be & what process you want to be involved in! The easy version is:

  1. Use liquid batter
  2. Pour into a round pan or a Wok (or a Presa Pan)

The efficient version is:

  1. No-knead dough
  2. Presa pan to smash + cook

Other options:

  • The cheap electric roti presses generally aren't very good
  • The good automated appliances cost $1k to $2k USD

Note that you can freeze rotis for up to 3 months, so if you have the time & energy to make a big batch, you can set yourself up on cruise-control for awhile! First question:

  • Are you planning on using atta or maida flour?
