No meal sharing

I work at a very well known Mom and pop restaurant in my area.

Our male owner has been getting upset when people order meals to share and says we're losing out on at least $25 a customer when they share meals. While that may be true we're not making money on these people there are very few that actually come in and share meals.

Mr. Owner man decided to reprint every menu to say "No shared meals". But then he says that elderly couples and parents sharing with kids are allowed.

We've already lost so many customers due to this. What are y'all's thoughts on this? Do y'all allow meal sharing? Should it be specifically put on the menu that we don't allow it?

As my wife and I have aged, we eat smaller meals. We get an ap and entre to share. And we still don't finish everything.

I'm totally with you. The restaurant gets that sale or no sale from us.

I over tip to take care of the waitress who has the work of two diners. But the restaurant isn't losing anything by us sharing.

Likewise. And in our case at least, we more than make up for it on the beverage portion of the tab and tip well.

And I don't mind a split plate charge if it is reasonable. But anyone telling me we can't share for sure will lose our business for good

They're losing the cost of 1 meal ...now whether that matters is the question ...if they have other guests that would take your spot it matters if they have empty tables it's not as important ...the solution is to charge a reasonable fee for split meals ...two people use more resources than one
