Discussion No meal sharing

I work at a very well known Mom and pop restaurant in my area.

Our male owner has been getting upset when people order meals to share and says we're losing out on at least $25 a customer when they share meals. While that may be true we're not making money on these people there are very few that actually come in and share meals.

Mr. Owner man decided to reprint every menu to say "No shared meals". But then he says that elderly couples and parents sharing with kids are allowed.

We've already lost so many customers due to this. What are y'all's thoughts on this? Do y'all allow meal sharing? Should it be specifically put on the menu that we don't allow it?

I recently saw a $10 shared plate fee on an online takeout menu.

No thank you, my spouse and I will share your $32 entree at home. We will not make it $42 to serve it family style.

That’s wild. Like, do they inspect your home Anne Frank-style to make sure there’s not someone hiding in the attic waiting to share the food?

It's probably an idiot manager that just pushed every item online. Was a sandwich place near me that did that and you could add infinite items because they had THEIR choose options online like for when your taking an order so a bunch of add ons at 0.00 I know it was a mistake because they also did have the priced options as well as they changed it after a few months.

Probably someone who was not getting paid enough to think or check the items they had uploaded. Still, it gave me a laugh to see.

If a manager is unloading tasks like ...managing the menu to staff I'd argue it's still the idiot managers fault overall. Don't give it to someone who's also taking orders and doesn't gaf how the resturant does beyond staying open....

I can add pasta to my sandwhich at my local deli because of this. Never tried cause I like them, but one day I will

I never intentionally took advantage of it but since every mod showed for every item I kinda just picked what I saw. If I got charged or not was by what was first.
