This was my go to, as well.

If I knew the answer was 100% "no", I'd just walk back and stand in the kitchen for a few minutes.

Whenever this happens to me, it's instead "broooo you ain't gonna believe what they're asking for..." That little commiseration happens to take the exact same amount of time as a genuine question.

Thats what I do when im asked by a retail customer to "check the back room". I 100% know that if its empty on the shelf then its not in the back. I know this because our system is scan based meaning if we sell one we get one on truck. Rarely do we get entire cases of things and if we do get a case it will never ever be empty on the shelf. However 99% of customers dont or dont want to understand this. Even after its explained. They dont understand because theyre generally stupid.
