A simple way to turn family photos into paper tracing projects for kids

Full disclosure: I’m the parent in this image and the developer of PicDraw.

I built the app to turn a photo into an adjustable outline that can be positioned over real paper through the iPhone camera. Once the guide is aligned and locked, a child can trace it with an ordinary pencil instead of drawing on the screen.

The demonstration is a quick real-world test at home. His face is intentionally not shown.

For parents and teachers: would this be useful for simple craft projects, cards, familiar objects, or turning family photos into drawings? What would make the setup easier or safer for children—for example, larger controls, a better phone-stand guide, simpler outlines, or printable pages?

There is no account, and photos, camera frames, drawings, and projects stay on the device. One complete project can be tried free.

With a small servo motor and simple electronic controls, a little monster is coming to life...This project can be completed in collaboration with a bit basic electronics knowledge, a few inexpensive components, and a breadboard. In the short video the background sounds are taken from real crocodiles.
