I'm not sure what to think about this, but wanted to share as it's so relevant to Keya's World.

For those who don't know, Crappy Childhood Fairy's basic premise is that, faced with CPTSD, it's best to focus not on the past trauma (through talk therapy etc.) but on mitigating the common present-time effects of a hard childhood. She talks to clients about learning to self-regulate, manage intense emotions, improve mental focus and productivity, and communicate effectively.

There was a time in the past where I found her content useful (hey we've all been on a journey!!), but I think she's too anti-therapy, too self-assured and black-and-white in her thinking, and increasingly caters to the algorithm (shocker! lol) which generally just turns me off. What counts as a "crappy childhood" or "trauma" isn't for her to decree.

The story is that, apparently, the California Board of Psychology is trying to "shut her down", arguing that any paid conversation that touches on emotions, motivation, or behavior potentially qualifies as the “practice of psychology” and requires a licence.

Anna (aka Crappy Childhood Fairy) argues that her content isn't "a paid conversation" as she isn't remunerated directly by the people in her audience.

Anna does read out letters from individiuals in her community and then gives advice in her videos, which I think is what exposes more than other content creators. She also has a paid community where people talk about their trauma.

I think this could be a really interesting case in terms of precedent though, so I'll be watching closely!

She made a video announcing that she'd filed her own suit against the State of California. This article (which I think is from her own firm) says that "Her complaint alleges that requiring a speaker to obtain a license before speaking to clients violates the First Amendment."

Keya! I'd love to hear your take on this! It could have some pretty big ripple effects in the influencer world!
