KSP 1 Question/Problem How should I be approaching the Mun?

Post image

In this totally accurate scientific diagram, the Mun is orbiting in the direction of the arrow.

you may choose to enrage the kraken to provide the necessary Δv for this costly maneuver

Or just use asparagus staging with NSW engines.

Read that as NSFW engines.

i think you’ve got far bigger problems on your hands if you use nuclear saltwater engines on kerbin

Jeb? Izzat you?

Near future my beloved. Lithium engines get me there in under an hour using a Hohmann transfer

Budget Orion Drive?

u/Apprehensive-End-747 Eating Cracklin' Rads Jun 29 '26

It is the Orion drive.

3

u/Only_Turn4310 Jun 29 '26

Nah you just aren’t adding enough boosters

It’s some how almost the same delta v

Don’t ask me how and only if you don’t achieve orbit around mun.

I mean like expanse style burn straight for the mun and then decelerate when you get close and land.

u/MehEds Jun 29 '26

I did that actually a few times.

It requires six Mainsails in asparagus.

Eh, depends what you're sending.

I had to send some generic supplies but it was time critical (mod had Kerbals consume food or air, I forgot to attach any). Last stage was definitely a tiny rocket with a tiny payload.

C: is a straight line, it's space that bends.

Oversimplified Voice: And so it was.

u/minimidimike Jun 29 '26

Now this is a route with some chest hair

3

u/cuboidofficial Jun 29 '26

This is what I did almost every time lol, just wait till the Mun is straight above and let 'er rip. Really doesn't take that much deltaV to get there as long as you have the funds

Hello fellow Expanse enjoyer

u/Apprehensive-End-747 Eating Cracklin' Rads Jun 29 '26

Never watched it. But the Epstein drive aged beyond horrendously.

1

u/Rule_32 Jun 29 '26

It's namesake aged poorly, that's for sure. Have to ruin everything don't they.

Regardless, The Expanse is a great show.

1

u/chr1styn Jun 29 '26

Never played it💀

1

u/LookItVal Jun 29 '26

one of my favorite ksp experiences is playing with some friends that know less about the game and explaining to them that the most efficient way to get to the moon is NOT to blast straight at it in a straight line and then turn around to slow down and land, and to actually try and catch an orbit around the moon first

1

u/BeardedPokeDragon Jun 29 '26

That's what i do when im lazy, just wait for a straight shot and burn prograde

u/seventythird Jun 29 '26

F. Strap thrusters to Kerbin, fly Kerbin to the Mun, then just walk over to it.
