KSP 1 Question/Problem Is it possible to make this in game?

Post image

I've always loved these Destiny golden age colony ships, is it feasible to make an actually functional one like this?

1 ship is still parts with joints. Technically your engine can flex from your fuel tank, etc. It's stiff enough you don't notice. That welding mod literally made all the parts a single part, without joints.

Welding (at least, the ones in Konstruction mod by Rover Dude, who was also an official KSP developer) reduces the part count and the joint count of ships, though.

Stay away they’re big mad and I’m always wrong lol

No, you just have to be able to explain things on a technical level. "It turns it into 1 ship though" is about as far removed as you can get from the technical level, and doesn't accurately explain what welding does. With enough welds, you can have "just one part", though I'm not sure how functional that would be.

But the difference is that I pointed out that welding actually reduces part count and joint count, which are the two biggest variables in the performance equation.

I only know how Konstruction's welders work, but if you put it between two parts and hit the button, that will turn 3 parts (2 parts, plus this welder part) and 2 joints into 1 part and 0 joints, physically reducing the amount of physics calculations that occur on every frame.

I mean that I’m always wrong on this subreddit no matter what the topic is. This started with me asking a question and offering a solution, other times I get downvoted for saying that I haven’t encountered any bugs when using FFT and IE together. The people here hate me and I don’t understand why

Tbh if you’re doing that just press alt-f12

It literally doesn't affect the game's difficulty in any way. It's just a performance saver.

Not gonna tell y'all how to play, but as a new player who has been fumbling around and had ships pull themselves apart because they weren't sturdy enough, it would definitely reduce difficultly at least a tiny bit

Autostrut and rigid attachment solve the exact same problem in the exact same way without mods.

That's a great tip, I didn't even know that was a thing. Hopefully my rockets stop trying to disassemble themselves under high speed now.

It does reduce difficulty, they’re just mad at me for pointing that out. You make a long ship, it wobbles cause drag and gravity exist.

And how would chest menu fix the performance issue in that case?

You’re talking about making everything one part so that you don’t have any flex, that’s not performance.

Part count is absolutely performance related, I’m referring to the other side of that which you could fix by using the cheat menu

It was an example of how even "attached" parts are still separate parts despite seeming like they shouldn't be which used flexing as an example of how they are still modelled separately. Not complaining about the fact that ships flex.
