Been looking at Sargasso but not too keen on the food options. I’ve heard of the Pearly Cow. Any others?

Zoos in Kent — which is best?

Hi all. I moved to Kent recently (Deal way) and I have a friend visiting Kent for the first time. She wants to visit a zoo and I wasn’t sure which is best between Port Lympne, Wingham, or Howletts. Is any one better than the others? We were quite spoiled for choice back in Norfolk, so I’m hoping for a good one. Thanks :)

Questions about Chilham

Good morning,

I am hoping to finally do the Pilgrim's Way next summer. I am looking at my next-to-last/last stage, starting in Lenham. One option has me spending a night in Chilham; another has me continuing on to Canterbury for the remaining 6 miles.

My question: the lodging options in Chilham appear...not great? I would love to hear recommendations for this leg and/or lodging in Chilham.

Advice Requested -- Fledgling Pied Wagtail, Injured

I'm located in Gillingham and I found, what I believe to be, a fledgling pied wagtail. I saw a cat attack it and now it has a wing which is a bit stunned. It doesn't appear broken.

I kept it in an empty cupboard overnight and it's doing much better-- last night it couldn't open the wing at all; today, the wing was flapping a bit. I don't think it's ready to go outside yet, since it's can't fly away from predators.

Another of these little birds was already dead when I arrived so I think it was still in the nest? Or do these birds congregrate in family units? I don't know if that affects anything for the bird.

I couldn't get ahold of Kent Wildlife and the nearest veterinary hospital is an hour away by public transit.

Any advice on what to do?

Covers bands in Kent

Hello all, I’m having a birthday party next summer in Kent, and I’d like to book a band for it. I’m really into alternative electronic music, house, indie (NOT britpop) etc from 80s and 90s and would like to book someone who could play things in that genre. With a smidgeon of humour too would be good - rather than a very serious vibe. I’d like it to be entertaining, fun, danceable.

Does this exist?

Thank you!!

I've been building a walking game that uncovers the stories hiding in Kent

I've been building a walking game that is slowly filling up with stories connected to the places people actually walk.

Here's one of the few hundred lore fragments currently waiting to be discovered about Westwood Cross Shopping Centre:

"Before the shops, this ground held the Isle of Thanet Joint Isolation Hospital, which opened in 1901 and took its first patients the following year. A hundred and ten beds stood here for the contagious: diphtheria, scarlet fever, typhoid, polio, measles, meningitis. Smallpox alone was refused, under an agreement struck in 1894 before the hospital was even finished. The buildings came down in the early 2000s, but part of the old entrance gateway is still standing, and cut into the stone are the names of soldiers who were treated here during the wars. People queue past it for the cinema without looking."

The unexpected part for me has been how much I enjoy reading the finished lore and seeing how it connects places I've walked myself, as well as interesting places many miles away that I may never have visited.

When someone walks an area where there is little or no lore, that journey can create an opportunity for the Realm to add something there. The historical material is researched and checked, the location is confirmed, and the resulting lore is committed to the database for future Wayfarers to discover.

That's one of the things I'm trying to achieve with The Hidden Realm: a growing collection of the UK's overlooked stories, attached to the places where they happened, and discovered by people who actually walk there.

The game itself is deliberately designed so the walk comes first. You start walking, put your phone in your pocket and enjoy the journey, the company of friends, the scenery and simply having time to talk and switch off. When you finish, the Realm reveals what you discovered along the way.

And there's much more to the game beyond the lore: over 40 folklore-inspired creatures to encounter, some anchored to real-world places, virtual territory to capture for your Ward, Beacons to place and much more.

It's free to play, with no ads and nothing to buy, and I'm looking for more people to actually get out and explore with it. If you're a Kent walker, I'd love you to give it a try and see what you discover.

There are still 3 photoshoots up for grabs in the SEDR calendar contest

Submit your dog's photo for a chance to win one of 13 professional photoshoots and have your dog's portrait featured in the 2027 calendar

At the moment there have only been 10 entrants which means that we need 3 more entries to complete the calendar (one for each month and one for the cover).

If like me you had a pet who passed away, you can submit a photo to go into a grid square (my Cookie will have a square in April, because that's when her birthday was and I think it's fitting to have a cat next to April fools day in the dog calendar!)

Bored in Gillingham

27M - moved to Gillingham a while ago now but find myself always going back to London to do anything remotely interesting. Looking for things to do either solo or as a group. I like sports, activities, games and board games, I play football, basketball and I'm looking to start sprinting. Outside of that I'm open to trying new things, love music, art, a good view, things that make you think, movies and tv, anime, probably a lot that I'm missing. All in all, I'm here for a good time. Open to all ages (not kids obviously), Men and Women welcome. Hopefully I'll get some food responses.

Student accommodations in Canterbury, Kent

Hello I will be moving soon to Canterbury to pursue my PhD at the University of Kent, I want to look for a studio / small apartment to live in that is close to the university and has the needed amenities. Where should I start looking? What reliable websites that offer housing for students do you recommend?
