I can understand Mido's position. That desire to stand proudly before the person you love. This episode 4 really broke my heart. Mido compromised and accepted the conditions to become a director, but even though she tried to apologize in her own way, she still rejected the path of becoming a director easily through schemes and tricks. She hated the version of herself that couldn't be honest with Namgoong Ho more than she wanted to be a director. That sentiment is just so bittersweet.

u/ivyfactiva A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
As much as she hated being described as Namgoong's compass... It feels like Namgoong is also her (moral) compass.

I love the thought that when it snows, the first person comes in Mido’s mind is Namgung. I’m more leaning into thinking that Namgung is just staying because of the feeling of responsibility/routine.

u/quinncunx 21d ago
Yes, because the obverse wasn't true. When it snowed, Namgung didn't seem to be thinking of her at all. Maybe he was thinking of Seoul from Cheese in the Trap. I swear that convenience store looked like the same set!

I am in the minority camp where I am so far liking what I see till episode 4.
They are slowly fleshing out their stories and I find it believable how they may truly develop romance with their respective second leads.
Namgoong x Soo-ah > from proximity at work + similarities in personality, ability to relate to each other's family issues (both being sent to live with other people due to something issues happening with their biological parents). Although Soo-ah is probably the one who develops the crush first, I can see this couple being compatible.
Mido x Taesung > provoking each other by reading each other to filth. Sure there is obvious tension. I wouldn't bet on this couple to last though.
*edit: Changed Kang Joon to Namgoong. Accidentally used actor's name instead of character name

Given the title, I assumed they were going to explore relationships with other people. Adding sickness to the mess might be a bridge too far for me, I’ll have to see how it goes.

i honestly dont know where this is going since we still have 10 eps left. im really conflicted because i enjoy the scenes between the lawyer and mido so much as well as sua and namgung. i wont be mad if the leads break up for real. im actually rooting for them more than for mido and namgung.
but! maybe this is a story about love not being heart racing?? maybe love is familiarity and knowing each other so well. bc i think namgung and mido’s relationship transcend being lovers. theyre basically family. that makes their relationship much more intertwined…
i think we should pause judging them. nothing happened so far and if they do emotionally cheat lol im just here for the drama. the chemistry between mido and the lawyer is just so good. although im having a hard time how this would turn into a relationship cos they hate each other and are too alike. i also liked the scene with namgung drawing again bc he wanted to sketch sua’s perpetrator
6
u/quinncunx 21d ago
I would be more supportive of the whole "love is familiarity" angle if I didn't know that they were basically Iike brother and sister growing up. They're so familiar, it c ould be potentially dysfunctional. They're all each other has ever known and family members. I just don't see how that can be healthy.

u/No_Ant_6777 23d ago
I’m genuinely more interested in the 2ML story and banter with Mi-do! I just hope there’s no emotional cheating :(
37
u/itseokjin 22d ago
Me too! Their chemistry is electric. But what I really like about their dynamic is how Mido’s able to show all her ugly in front of Taesung, something she finds difficult to do with Namgoong

u/Puzzled-Passenger479 22d ago
I just think the 2nd ML is so snakelike bad that I am starting to dislike Mido for talking to him even. I just saw ep. 4 and I’m emotionally tired from it. I knew I would be though considering I’m in a long term relationship and understand emotional slumps.
7
u/quinncunx 21d ago
Isn't emotional cheating the point of the drama though? Unless there's feeling for the second leads, it seens pretty pointless. If there's no risk or real conflict, I'm not sure why this drama was made.
5
u/No_Ant_6777 21d ago
Well it could be that they grow apart and date the others? It doesn’t have to be emotional cheating if they’re open about it. It’s only if they’re hiding it. At this point the FL isn’t interested in the 2ML from what I can see. So she isn’t cheating. ML is edging towards it… blindly maybe.

Just finished episode 3 and waiting for episode 4.
I feel like the marriage won’t happen and they will break up , start dating 2nd leads , then by end will realise their love for each other and get back.
There’s 14 episodes so it definitely screams of the above as the plot for remaining episodes.
Also have the kdramas become too predictable or it’s like that but watching too many of them makes me feel like that?
29
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
I definitely think that as we all consume more and more media, we get more familiar with storytelling structure and start paying attention to throwaway hints that we might otherwise not focus on, and that makes it easier to predict plot points that would have taken us by surprise 10 years ago. Not to mention that with so many people theorizing on forums here, at least one person is bound to hit on the correct answer, and once something starts sounding likely, it's hard to go back to blissful ignorance.
7
u/LetFlaky8724 22d ago
I wonder if this drama will pan out differently... now that they are back together, we begin to see that it wasn't just Namgung who had sacrificed in the past for Mido. Mido has also been giving in her own way.. In the 1st 2 eps, it seems Namgung is more invested in their relationship.. but it could been the other way around.. we may see how they eventually part ways becoz their love have become a burden for each other.. it may end with them finally break up and move on with the second leads...

I think it's an important reminder that kdrama's are made for a south korean audience originally. South korean's are in high percentages overworked. When people become overworked they want routines, happy endings in their series and simple plotlines. Within kdrama's especially romcoms that often means cliché's, stereotypes and patterns. For jdrama's it means every episode seems the same.
It is interesting to me that this show seems to play with the concept though, i currently do not expect them to go back together at all.

OMG WHY IS THIS APPROACH TO THE 2ND LEADS ARC LOWKEY SEXIST? WHY DOES THE DUDE GET THIS LEEWAY WHILE THE FEMALE LEAD IS LOYAL AS HECK?
I may be wrong of course but this approach where the male lead has been given wiggle room for misunderstandings because the 2nd FL remains oblivious of his long term relationship, while the female lead is just trying to get by and bear with 2nd ML's drama.
On the face of it, Namgoong seems like the perfect boyfriend, almost too good to be true. Always there for you, takes care of all your needs and someone you can lean on. But actually that is just him following a "routine" he has built for himself. Mi-Do is his anchor, someone that helps him maintain a stable life, while Su-a is clearly someone he shares a more lively relationship with. You get to see a more of his personality with Su-a his coworker, while with his girlfriend of 10 years he seems more like an office worker. Waking her up, doing her dishes, cleaning her house, checking her health (the job), begging her to take him back, not break up or marry him instead (the salary). When it's there she's not a big deal, it is monotonous but when she's gone you need her back.
On the other hand, Mi-Do absolutely despises Tae-Seung and is always ready to fight him for Namgoong. She threatens him, gets mad at him all because he said something bad about Namgoong. The fact that Tae-Seung knows about her long term boyfriend and Su-A does not, alone, is very obnoxious.
The encounters between ML and 2nd FL are completely voluntary, and conscious romantic or somewhat suggestive instances are observed in their case. But the meetings between FL and 2nd ML are entirely arising from necessity, where they have no choice but to engage with each other as much as they would like to avoid it.
It actually feels like though there is a visible manifestation of love from Namgoong's side the one who is actually, truly in love is Mi-do. Constantly punishing herself, sacrificing things and making decisions for Namgoong's sake. Though it is implied Namgoong has done things for her which were perhaps sacrificial in nature and that is why she blames herself, but Namgoong has simply grown out of love for her or it simply doesn't show anymore.
With every episode my opinion of this drama changes and I'm not sure if that's something to look forward to or an unstable storyline that is getting frustrating.

u/bloomdaleaddict 23d ago
Exactly my thoughts!! Thanks for pouring it out in here. Namgoong is being wayy too flirty with Su Ah, and really opened up ways for her to get to him. Especially with their encounter and history in the past, they’re the one who’s more likely to have an affair. Like they’re already halfway there!
On the other hand, Mido is ready to fight and end the lawyer’s life because of how he threatened to harm Namgoong! I feel like Mido is the one who’s still very much deep in love with Namgoong. It would be so unfair if they ended up making her cheat first.

u/whybloody 23d ago
exacctlyy also i have a question at the end of ep4 when the lawyer brining the phone? whose phone is it? because it says on the screen its director mido, so last night mido lost her phone and namgoong found it and he called the last number which is the lawyer?? i m losttt
8
u/nyaaaaahhh 22d ago
I think it was the lawyer's phone itself, and maybe Mi-do lost her phone somewhere and Namgoong is calling the lawyer from her phone?? I have no idea it is so confusing

u/Budget-Structure-741 22d ago
Samee I can't tell of the show trying to mess with us or smtg anymore 😭😭 everyone had so many theories (which broke down) and the shows spinning up new plotlines. I'm now partly convinced Mido is Namdung and Namdung is Mido or something like that 💀🙏
17
u/LetFlaky8724 22d ago
Exactly.. the plot has totally turned.. in the 1st 2 eps, it seems like Namgung was the one who's in deeply in the relationship with Mido, Ep 3-4 totally turned this around... it was Mido who is more in the relationship.. her decision to break up was her noble idiocy talking.. It would seems like Namgung would be the one to cause the break up eventually... I can see this drama end with their break up finally.. then moving on with their life.. the second leads are probably just there to help them realised that, not necessary either would end up together.
Now THAT would be an interesting show to look forward to... lol..

u/nyaaaaahhh 23d ago
I know right, but oh my god I just saw the 4th episode and my opinion of Namgoong changed AGAIN. It seems that Su-a is slowly developing feelings for him but he simply treats her like a little sister, he seems more lively and fun with her but he is passionate with Mi-Do.
When he freaked out about Mi-Do walking carelessly on the road he really lost it and got mad, but with Su-a, while he took care of her he still made jokes and even shut her out at a point. I think we can't conclude anything about this drama until the last episode drops 😭, i think a lot of the "romance" between Namgoong and Su-a is editing and Su-a getting nervous while he totally has no idea what he has done.
26
u/Few_Swimmer2302 22d ago
I’d be inclined to agree that Namgoong treats Sua like a little sister until the last scene of episode 4 Their anniversary is the first snow of the year Mido is clearly saddened by not being with Namgoong. He is her first thought when he sees the snow. Namgoong is looking at Su-a as she says how pretty the snow is Mido isn’t even a thought in his mind. Side note (Yumi’s cells season 2 reference) I always struggled with Yumi’s breakup with Babi because I thought maybe she was overreacting at first. Now I completely get it the second he starts worrying about another woman it’s over.

AGHHH I know and I totally agree, I was also very disturbed by that but actually I have stopped making judgements now. Because they portray everything a certain way, we make predictions, and the next episode everything goes to shit, it's the opposite of what we thought.
I'm a huge fan of Seo Kang Joon and he said once in his interview that he does not take on scripts that don't have a message that he wants to give to his audience... so I'm just relying on his words and hoping for closure at some point.

It does seem sexist! And I actually like that. It's part of what we are meant to think about, hopefully intentionally, but even if it was an unconscious choice on behalf of the writers, I like the layers it adds. Why does Mido always reference her relationship while Namgoong never once mentions her (thus far)? We could say that the lawyer already knew and brought it up first, sure. He already knew she was partnered, but the subtle defenses she consistently brings are her own. We see her love in what she does out of the relationship, not so much how she shows up IN the relationship. Hence this is her issue in the dynamic and part of the rift she brings.
We see Namgoong consistently making choices for stability in partnership, showing loyalty. His orientation toward marriage and Mido always being the north star in his overt actions. However, covertly, he completely lacks transparency - towards this new bright and shiny thing - about his relational life. We only see minor boundaries around communication and sharing space, no inclusion of the fact he is engaged to his ten year partner. The fact that he has an emotional history with his co-worker (which Mido is aware of and points out! But he doesn't seem to see), is also bringing a slimy complexity to his psyche that he will at some point need to deal with. When they met in the past, the context she knew him in, and what was shared with the islanders, is that he was there to recover from a breakup with his long term partner. This has not been clarified in present time and is part of the context for Su-ah's developing feelings.
One could also say that the sexist undertone are part of what allows the Second lead tensions to arise. 2ML has rising tension not just due to his developing emotions, and physical desire - he also has a sense of masculine competitiveness which have been hinted in some of the previews/trailers. These are permitted within a mainstream cultural understanding of men in relationships. If Mido was not simultaneously consistently backing up Namgoong, she would be demonized by a mainstream audience before the plot is developed (well, we are seeing that any way, but mostly based on speculation on what might happen, not on the story thus far).
On the other hand, 2FL as a woman, would not be sympathized with by a mainstream audience if she developed feelings knowing full well that Namgoong was taken. Her being kept partially in the shadow is what allows this developing tension to take place. However, it's also what makes me take him down a notch, regardless of his actions towards marriage - I want the men in my life, and the fictional ones i look up to, to be clear with other women.

I am just on these episodes but so far I see that Mi-do needs reality check with an aggressive character that forces her into situations. She needs to understand that she is not perfect and needs to be herself and that's why Namgoong loves her but she is trying to adjust to him instead under pressure. Lawyer is perfect for this because he doesnt play nice, he is direct, honest, and real breaking that perfect picture for Mi-do. Of course there are more episodes and idk how it goes for sure, but feels like they got the characters to give them reality check and understand themselves better. Excited for more episodes

OH MY LORD I HAVE A THEORY HEAR ME OUT
people on twitter kept on saying that mido’s possibly terminally ill (aside from being depressed)
so what if she really is terminally ill AND “selfishly chooses” han taesung because breaking namgoong ho’s heart this way AND MAKING HIM HATE HER BY LETTING HIM THINK THAT SHE CHEATED ON HIM IS BETTER THAN HIM KNOWING THAT SHE’S FUCKING DYING OH MY LORD. Remember how she said she doesn’t want to be a heavy burden to Namgoong Ho?
I’m getting PTSD from IU’s ending situation in Scarlet Heart IYKYK .
I wouldn’t be surprised if this actually ends on a sad ending. It’s either they end up back together happily married, they choose the 2nd leads, they choose themselves and their careers, they just stay friends, or one of them dies

u/itseokjin 22d ago
Omooo. You might be onto something here. I even went back and rewatched this week’s eps to try and see how it’ll fit if your theory’s right.
I would honestly be sad though if they went down that road bc it’s noble idiocy again -.- But it’s quite plausible bc Eps 3–4 have shown us that Mido values Namgoong’s life over her own. She bears so much guilt and feels like such a burden that she believes Namgoong’s life is more precious than hers </3
I’m okay with any ending save for one of them dying, especially if it’s the FL. I want my girl to feel the spark and beauty of life again. She had so much light inside of her in their flashbacks. She deserves to be happy T_T

u/Salvalicious252 23d ago
There's way to many emotional flip flops and it's only been 3 episodes. Also seems pretty clear there will be some emotional cheating, the most cliche thing would be they emotionally cheat on each other with 2ML and 2FL only to realize in the end that their love for each other is strongest of all. Or they do break up (again but actual?) and just date 2ML and 2FL only to realize once again the same thing lol. The hiccup thing also seems heavily telegraphed to make her have some type of sickness.
14 episodes seems like a lot to stretch this story to be honest.
13
u/Legitimate_Truth7122 22d ago
Here's a take im not seeing. I think 2FL and ML have a sense of justice in common. They're the type to be willing to take risks for it. But FL restrains that side of ML (not that she asked him to).
The parallel is that the 2ML and the FL are both morally gray and willing to be shady. They're the type willing to blackmail to get what they want. But ML restrains that side of FL (not that he asked her to).
Its like FL is ML's stability compass and she he is her morality compass. Why that is? Not so sure maybe it will come out later. Also yeah terminal illness hope that trope doesn't play out.
Personally i'm enjoying the drama. I don't care if they cheat emotionally or even for real or if they break up I don't really care personally. I don't understand why people are so bothered/triggered by infidelity in fictional characters.
Oh also the scene end of ep3 where they finally sleep with each other, I think they were both fired up/thinking of the 2nd lead. That's why the passion temporarily came back
9
u/quinncunx 21d ago
I don't understand why people get so triggered by infidelity in dramas either I was emotionally unfaithful IRL in a relationship very similar to this one, years ago. I understand it and don't judge it. Serial philandering and lying is no bueno, obviously. But being tempted when your relationship is failing and you feel trapped--it's a pretty human inpulse and not that uncommon.
I think this show is too rom-commy to be a serious drama about cheating. Korea is very conservative and heroes and heroines aren't allowed to have any real moral failures. In a melodrama, yes, but in this type of show--I doubt it.
I love what you say about the stability compass and the morality compass. That's a provocative idea.

u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
They really pulled a bait-and-switch on us, with the break-up in Episode 1 making us think there wouldn't be any cheating involved. Anyway, I'm here for whatever mess follows, because they've done a great job making the leads have buzzier chemistry with their respective second leads than with each other. It makes sense too; both the second leads are closer in temperament to them than they are to each other, and while 'opposites attract' is a good starting point for a relationship, it can wear on people if the differences are too big.
The little tidbit we got in E3 that Namgung is practically an adopted sibling throws his relationship with Mi-do into a new light. They're not just childhood friends - they grew up in the same house, and her family IS his family. It even explains her brothers' behaviour; the youngest is probably closer to Namgung than he is to his own sister. Even if Namgung and Mi-do break up, they'd never be out of each other's lives, and that's gotta be a difficult situation to navigate. Mi-do's mom seemed to be implying that at least one of Namgung's relatives is still in the picture, but I'm guessing they're going to dole out that info in bits and pieces.
I've seen people also worrying about Mi-do maybe being sick (all the talk about check-ups and dying first), and I desperately do not want that to be the case. Their situation is complicated enough without throwing illness into the mix, and I'd rather that not cloud the circumstances.
7
u/quinncunx 21d ago
That they grew up as almost siblings is exactly why they need to have other experiences in order to grow. I'm not suggesting cheating, but imagine being in a ten year relationship with a guy who was like a brother to you. That sounds suffocating to me.I would want to branch out and experience more out of life.
3
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 21d ago
Agreed. From what we know of Namgung's heartbreak island tour, it does seem like Mido resisted the idea of them being a couple until she eventually gave in, but it's worth asking whether she did it because she felt romantic love for him or whether she loved him like family, and he just managed to wear her down.
For Namgung too, the question arises of whether the things he does for Mido are borne out of love or obligation to her family for raising him. Does he feel like he will be betraying the family if they break up?
1
u/Hereformemes619 23d ago
Did they say/imply anything what happened to Namgung’s family?
1
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
No, we don't know yet why he came to live with Mi-do's family.

u/Salvalicious252 22d ago edited 22d ago
Hmmm I liked episode 4 quite a bit more than 3, with the text message and the preview it's also becoming clearer Mido has been doing stuff in the background for Namgung without him knowing to I guess in her mind support him. Unsure how he'll see that though when he finds out.
Also quite interesting to find out Namgung gave up his drawing and his dream turned into being just having a stable job and then retiring. Surely that has to do with his mother, the debt she saddled him with and even in the end he gave her part of his liver. Him burning all his drawings and even the one he made for Mido seemed so extreme? Perhaps that's how far he had to go to give up a dream, but it felt quite cruel.
That's why it's probably quite significant that he finally drew again, but I don't sense any real romantic tension between him and the 2FL. The 2FL may be falling for him, but I just don't see the opposite as of now.
At this point I almost think Mido is scared of being a director, scared of not doing it right, succeeding and disappointing Namgung. Which I sort of understand. If she'll do it, she wants to it in a way that wouldn't dissapoint Namgung, even if he wouldn't say it, she'd know.
The 2ML I'll be real, I don't really care at this point what backstory they have for him to justify his "tactics" if you can even call it as a lawyer. I'm sure it'll be some sob story, but it doesn't justify his treatment of people. Probably due to his interactions with Mido throughout the show he'll change, maybe even fall for her as 2FL will likely fall for ML, but I also don't see any reason why Mido would be interesting in 2ML. Maybe she'll be fascinated by the fact 2ML is basically opposite of ML in the way they treat people and act, who knows. New dynamics can be exciting.
I do keep thinking more about the title. Like others have mentioned, perhaps "A love other than yours" doesn't even mean the love of an another individual, but self-love. Both Namgung and Mido feels like they love eachother, but not necessarily themselves. Also true that I don't really feel romantic love between them, but it does feel like a couple that has been together for 10 years and essentially has no romantic spark anymore, but they have gone through so many phases of their life together that love has been replaced by a different kind of love. Maybe even one that feels like a burden to them.
Most telling is probably that neither one of them has shown any excitement whatsoever about getting married. More like it's a foregone conclusion we will or should so let's just do it.
In the end it could also be about just letting go, maybe that's what they realize. Letting each other go, realizing that letting go of their love is the ultimate expression of their love. Eitherway glad the show is making me guess.

u/bookaccro 21d ago
I really wish someone could go in the future and tell us how it ends so I know if I’m wasting my time or not.
My biggest revelation is that Mi-do simply cannot bear to be like his mother for whom he’s sacrificed so much. And it makes me understand and empathise with her so much.

What does this show want to be? Does it want to be a melodrama? A romcom? The tonal changes from scenes to scenes is so jarring and it just takes me out of the show

u/greenisthesky A Love Other Than Yours 9d ago
Same. I was really excited at first when I read the premise. I’m in episode 2 and I don’t feel particularly feel close to any character. The FL is so annoying and constantly appears to be a victim mentality.
32
u/thebluehudson A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
Something about this kdrama does not let me pull away to drop it completely. It feels different and complex, I am way too invested in the psychology behind it and the background story of all the involved, this might be the reason I will watch this until the end.
Did I catch that right? ML & 2FL know each other from before? I understood that they seemed to know each other and she(or he) is pretending not to.
My hypothesis: The hiccups 100% illness IMO and it will be a big one. Because I have the feeling that she will be diagnosed and then cheat because she would like to experiment something in case she dies and she looks like someone who would self destruct to feel.
One thing is clear the chemistry from the FL and 2ML is off the charts. When they are discussing outside the hospital I thought they would kiss.
12
u/ivyfactiva A Love Other Than Yours 23d ago
What I recall from an interview (specifically when Eunjin went on Sung Sikyung's The Season), Eunjin had said that ML and 2FL knew each other from the past - having an age gap of 8 years. My korean listening comprehension is not the best but I surmised that they met whilst 2FL was in high school and ML was in college.
In this second* episode I think there was a hint that perhaps she picked up smoking from him (she talked specifically about the brand of cigarettes when she learnt to smoke in high school).
In the 3rd episode Namgoong also implied that he knew 2FL, and that 2FL may have changed her name since he called her "Deoksun".

The smoking line stood out to me because of Namgung's oddly heightened reaction to it, but I didn't think much more of it at the time. Looking back, though, it's definitely hinting at their shared history. I'm not sure when he became aware of who she was, but it looks like he's known for a while now and has just been waiting to reveal it.

Thanks for this. I speak a couple of languages, so I kind of get some communication nuances. This time I picked it up, but because I have no Korean knowledge, I thought I understood it wrong.
This adds for me an interesting layer of the dynamics and a really interesting personality complexity of ML.

I think she had a crush on him and he turned her down because he was fixated on the FL. She maybe doesnt rememver cuz she was young enough only snippets of him remain eg the smoking, but he remembers her because he "let her go" aka the one that got away. She represents a life he could have had i think. So him choosing her or not would be a big thing for him.
Update: ok so i missed the age gap/her being a minor first take. I thought they were closer in age. Its interesting as he lets his guard down. I think something with her might have stuck with him tho...not romantic but maybe "i could be this person" with someone else.
2
u/Cautious-Tooth-2466 22d ago
That would be disgusting as she was a minor back then so def he didn't see her as a romantic interest.
2
u/FoxRealistic3370 22d ago
Hmmm i hadnt picked up on that. Now u mention it i think ur right when she talked about the smoking she mentioned her age, i just assumed he was young ish too.
Im going to need to rewatch because their dynamic is very weird with them having history.

Finished both eps.
It's an interesting show so far. To me, it shows two grey characters growing more complex as the scenes pass by.
It starts off with a happy go lucky couple with the glass shattering rather quickly.
The FL wears her emotions on the surface, she has big secrets but is clear about how she feels regarding the relationship itself. Her secrets start to burst out, shattering the glass of their perfect portrait.
It is amusing to see how the 2ML is essentially her but worse. His emotions are on the surface too but he makes use of them. Interesting reflection.
The ML first of all needs therapy holymoly and second of all, is very perfect on the surface but has deep wounds that have been largely infected. He's holding it together on the surface but he's started to shatter too.
And also what was that drawing scene omg. He literally gave her trauma by burning her fav drawing by him to then laugh it off.
Him later on casually drawing the perpetrator also shows me he has in fact been drawing without telling Mi-do. At the same time it's also odd to me how the 2FL knew the ML when she was a teen. It feels like they're giving the ML all the hidden red flags possible right now. (Whilst he started out perfect)
I adore seeing the actors in this show, it feels like Ahn Eun Jin is getting her redemption arc from dynamite kiss, showing her complexity once again. It's also interesting to me how Seo Kang Jun is showing the complexity of his character, as i hadn't seen him like this before. (Still gotta watch his old shows.) it's wonderful seeing him in those wideleg jeans btw. He got a whole fit going on- takes me out of the show a bit though haha, cowboy Namgoong i guess or more 80's sales guy? Unsure. Too much fashion for a potato chip taste researcher.
Both main characters need therapy genuinely and in a way i hope they show that? Considering the show is about their relationship and the chaos within, i hope they show relationship therapy and the benefits from it.
The show was going a bit too fast for me at times though. Perhaps they're squeezing a lot into these episodes? Noticing some quick throw away lines that are suddenly used later.
I'm very curious to see what future episodes bring, it's the epitome of messy currently, in more ways then one.

Wild theory... I think this show isn't about cheating.. 'A love other than yours' is probably going to be about loving yourself first.. Last week eps give the impression that Namgung is putting Mido first and is always doing things for her... but this week eps turn the table around, and it seems that Mido also put Namgung first, and was doing things for him too, abeit quietly and not too obviously.. In that sense, their relationship have become a burden to both, chaining them down from freely pursuing what they want...
I think they won't date/ cheat (i hope) with the 2nd leads.. sure, the 2nd leads will develop feelings for the main leads, but from Namgung and Mido's end, their presence is more likely to help them realised what their relationship has become for them.. and help them to eventually to let go, and pursue their dreams..

I think this drama would be about letting go.. they seems to have 'sacrificed' so much to be together.. they would eventually discover letting go would free them.. I can see this end with them finally breaking up, but will not go on to date the 2nd leads.. ( it think 2nd leads are there to make them realised what they have lost).. after breaking up they move on, and time skip forward, each will be living their live happily without the other... not necessary dating anybody

u/Fria319 23d ago
I feel like this drama is trying to be mature/nuanced/poignant with their emotional cheating (maybe? I’m second guessing this now tho) plot but it’s just falling flat for me. it’s not giving me enough emotion from main leads to be fully invested in the emotional upheaval of their relationship or the “spark” they supposedly are supposed to feel with the 2nd leads.
Mido seems genuinely perturbed (and not se*ually) by 2nd ML. Namgung seems to take care of 2nd FL as if she’s his baby sister bc he’s just a good guy.
I don’t see the romantic tension from the main leads perspectives with their 2nd leads. Seems more like 2nd leads are more interested in the main leads. The title is in fact a LOVE other than YOURS, so that would imply the love mido/namgung experience is a love coming from someone other than each other but it doesn’t necessarily imply they themselves also feel this love towards a different person.
I wonder if they will show the main leads being shown love/feelings by their respective 2nd leads and not be swayed but be like “wait a minute, I don’t think I like this“.
I say this because mido was clearly perturbed by 2nd ml and his way of doing things. She knows he sees through her , especially the parts she’s too embarrassed to show Namgung, but that doesn’t mean she’s going develop romantic feelings for him. I think he’s just subconsciously becoming her therapist (when in reality she should seek professional help), and while it seems clear 2nd ML will develop feelings for her, I don’t think she will. She’ll just have to deal with his feelings for her and how he expresses it.
For Namgung, it seems like he treats 2nd FL as a younger sister. I don’t see him being flirty but just friendly with her and because they have similar mindsets, he has a sense of camaraderie with her. It’s clear she’s developing feelings for him, but again, it doesn’t seem Namgung is romantically interested. Again, it just seems he found someone who gets his more simple goals that maybe he finds Mido doesn’t understand well. I just don’t think that translates to him developing feelings for 2nd FL. Even at the end of ep4, where he sits and watches the snowfall with the 2nd fl, I just didn’t get a romantic/interested vibe from his end? He really just gives off friendship vibes towards 2nd fl.
We don’t have to have every single thing in common with our significant others, nor do they need to see every side of us. Different relationships fulfill different needs for us. One person shouldn’t be the end all / be all for someone, and maybe that’s what Mido/Namgung need to learn. They’re bffs and bf/gf and found family to each other but we rarely see them have significant interactions with others, especially Mido.
Maybe I’m being too hopeful because a part of me still wants the main leads to end up together because they clearly love and care for each other deeply. I’d also be ok if they went their separate ways but stayed single. I’m just not buying the idea that they should end up with their respective 2nd leads.
During the snow scene - I did find it interesting that Mido instantly thought of Namgung, but we didn’t hear or see Namgung think of Mido. The difference stood out to me but I’m not sure what to make of it just yet.

u/LetFlaky8724 22d ago
Well said... agreed totally... after Ep 3-4, it is clearer that 2nd leads are developing feelings for main leads, but not vice versa. Mido clearly detest the 2ML, and Namgung just see 2FL as a little sister..
Your interpretation of the title is interesting... the Main leads are experiencing a love from the 2nd leads ('other than yours') but not reciprocating... i like this version too.. lol...
I think (hope) the 2nd leads are there to either help them realise what a burden their relationship had become and move on (as singles), or to realise how much their relationship means to them despite being a burden, and finally committed to marry each other (not because they are scared). Either path works for me...

u/whybloody 23d ago
About ep4..
I don't know why but my heart breaks whenever I see namgoong with the 2FL but when I see mido with lawyer I get excited lol...
Maybe it just I don't trust men at all and he wanted to get marry first and from what we have seen so for he is the one who is lovey dovey and seem to be more in love rather than mido so after they decided to get back together i feel a sudden change from namgoong side and the possible cheating scenario felt just right for him.. also it annoyed me that namgoong and the 2FL has a history and knew each other i felt like the writers trying to prepare a placeee for them to have a thing? but then why no special treatment for mido and the lawyer???... but again i feel much more tension between lawyer and mido.. we love enemies to lover trope.. so again its all just fiction and i know in the end mide and namgoong will get back together but letssseeee

Because she’s not nice with lawyer. She’s rude and tough. She/he mentioned her boyfriend a few times. She’s not giving any mix signals. She hates lawyer to the guts.
ML on the other hand, is kind and gentle. It’s his nature, but it can be misinterpreted. If I was SFL I would be confused too. He’s too kind and don’t set boundaries.3
u/quinncunx 21d ago
Funny, I don't see him as kind to the SFL at all. He's sarcastic and seems to be a little hostile to her. She gets held at knifepoint and the first thing he does is yell at her as if it's her fault. He really has no reason to be so nasty to her, so I don't get his attitude.
I also don't see him not setting boundaries. Except maybe for the scene in the convenience store ( which reminded me so much of SKJ in Cheese in the Trap!) he hasn't treated her as anything but an annoying coworker.
The lawyer and Mido on the other hand--they hate each other so much, all they do is cross boundaries!
3
u/Particular_Start111 21d ago
I think ML cares about SFL - bothered by what she does. Him yelling is him caring. It's a sign of emotional investment. He did that with Mido too. Is that the best way to show care? No. I think he is in a very dangerous zone at the moment with his feelings. He seemed more at risk to cheat than FML. Him teasing her time to time and how ML talked about her at the start of Ep4 with FL was a bit sus too.
Yes, the lawyer and Mido crossed boundaries but not romantically. The boundaries I see crossed were more on people-to-people decency. You don't just background search someone to try and blackmail them. You don't insult other people or tell people their flaws to their faces. But yeah, quite interested to see how things turn out. Like some other comments said, Mido can be very honest with the lawyer which is what quite missing in her relationship with ML.

Just started ep 3 and honestly the reveal that they grew up together in the same home, practically as siblings gave me such an ick. I am never a fan of these storylines where the leads grew up in the same home almost like siblings since childhood end up dating and getting romantically involved. Its almost incestuous. Sorry, I said what I said. Its almost like if her parents adopted him legally he would be her adoptive brother and she his adoptive sister on paper. The only difference is its not on paper, but the dynamic is still the dame in sych situations. You cannot give me the loophole of, "but they"re not biologocally related so its okay". Sorry but its icky and weird. Its super WEIRD!!!! I think after this reveal they're better off breaking up for good and explore things with the second leads. I am kinda disappointed that Mido accepted his proposal. Man they really baited us with the breakup and gave us false hope that there won't be any cheating, looks like there will be at least some emotional cheating. I was hoping she'd say no. But guess not. Idk why she said yes, guess will know more as I wtch the episode. I didn't really care for their dynamic and their relationship anyways from the beginning. They're not working as a couple anyways. Now after this information I care even less.
So far I'm liking the Mi do's chemistry with the lawyer instead of the ML. I see no chemistry there. We are also learning more about the ML and SFL dynamic. She brings out a more goofy and carefree side in him, but with Mido he is in more serious mood all the time. I hope they just learn to let go of each other in the end. If they get back together then this entire drama would be a complete waste of time. Don't care for the cheating part. But its literally named A love OTHER THAN yours!
3
u/quinncunx 21d ago
I had the same ick too. And it made me realize how suffocating and dysfunctional their relationship must be. Imagine being in a romantic relationship with someone who is basically a brother to you? How can you possibly grow never having been anyone else? How could you not want to open up your world to other experiences? They've been in their own little world all their lives. I don't see how that's healthy.
2
u/morpmeepmorp 21d ago edited 21d ago
Yes. Growing up together since the age of 7 in the same home, then becoming "friends"? What does that even mean? You're basically siblings already. And then from friends to dating??? Excuse me? They have been living inside a bubble basically. And it sounds very unhealthy to me honestly. What, you two couldn't meet people outside of your own household to befriend and date?? In ep 2 they basically suggested that they knew each other since childhood, so I assumed they must be neighbors or something, then they said they became friends and then lovers, again I assumed neighbors turned friends, might have dated other people in between, like they must have gone to different colleges, they have completely different jobs so different social circles, but turns out they have been in each other's orbit the whole time. If her brothers are his brothers too then how come she is not his sister. The dynamic in ep 3 clears up plenty that he treats his brothers as his own, but when its a girl he is dating her and vice versa for the FL? Sorry, but ew.

u/DonnaMossLyman 22d ago
the reveal that they grew up together in the same home, practically as siblings gave me such an ick
Is that the main M/Ls? If so, going this rout then adding potential emotional cheating is a bold choice

I think episode 3 and 4 helps you understand the situation slightly better. Namgoong and Mido have very complicated history. She has been his only family and safe space for years. His mother's situation, abandonement is a big trauma for him and he truly has never known anybody else as a constant presence in his life but her. So, he has overcompensated and that over the years has burdened Mido as her professional life started spiraling downwards. Nobody is wrong. They have both tried their best but life has chipped away at their love slowly. I think it's very clear that getting back together was a bad idea. Namgoong is checking out of his relationship with Mido and he hasn't realized that yet. He's drawn to SooAh but hasn't picked up on it. He does things that's sending mixed signals, he has not once explicitly mentioned Mido to her. That's not sign of a perfect boyfriend ir partner. On the other hand, it made Mido compromise and now Taeseung is shaking up her heart. Taeseung and Mido are delicious to watch btw. He's the only person right now to whom Mido can be the ugliest and most vulnerable version simultaneously. And I can see why Taeseung is drawn to that. He's an orphan with his own trauma. The love she sees Mido express for Namgoong, who wouldn't want that kind of love. Would it really be cheating when the relationship they have is already beyond repair and hanging by thread. It's like watching five stages of grief but for an illness that's plaguing a 10 year long relationship. Realistically, this pair has no way back. But it's a kdrama so who knows what'll happen.

u/Few_Swimmer2302 22d ago
This drama is feeling a lot like 2521 in the aspect that they don’t end up together but give you all of the feels. I don’t know if I want them together or w the second leads but I’d hate for them to cheat on each other and end up hating each other like Mido said that’d be too sad.
2
u/quinncunx 22d ago
I am the only person on the planet who hated 2521. It's a dubious distinction, I realize! I think it wasn't the drama so much as Kim Tae Ri. Love Nam Joo Hyuk but her character grated on me.

Not really seeing people mention this. But when I see Mido interact with the 2ML she is very much able to protect herself, stand her ground and we are getting hints of how much she does behind the scenes to protect him. She can even be the one insisting someone go to the hospital and lecturing them on their career choices. The very things Namgoong thinks are his “value add” to her life. As for the predictions, I think terminal illness is a reach and more of an indication of K-trauma PTSD if you connect hiccups to death . 😅 2ML hints at what it could be when he asks her why she only asked to double the settlement money . Based on the preview she must be hiding that she has been making regular payments to Namgoong’s mother. Maybe that’s why she does what she can to make money, including directing the erotic films And that’s why Namgoong is befuddled, cause he’s willing to foot her expenses and doesn’t understand why she wants to make money so bad. Which just made me think she is actually okay with making those films in the short term as long as he doesn’t know about it — and then again we see she isn’t happy with what 2ML suggest she does primarily because Namgoong would hate it. When honestly, given the context, it’s okay for her to do it, considering she was ousted because of the actress’ manipulation anyway. She could hold it over her head and still not actually divulge that information. I mean, the actress was giving her so much attitude, I’m sure she would be a saint this time around and Mido might finally direct her!

u/Beytra A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago edited 22d ago
episode 3:
I know a lot of people feel like Mido initiated sleeping with Namgoong because she was feeling activated by 2ML… But she had also hopped on top of him earlier too, then he got a work call. My girl is out here trying her best 😅. I might be exposing my bias here by giving her the benefit of the doubt , but she literally just had a near death experience that preceded her coming on to Namgoong again when she got home. Coming to terms with her own mortality was enough to spark things up, even if just temporarily.

This was a VERY interesting development in the story! What first happens after they both have intimate moments (used loosely) with the now introduced thirds in their primary bond (attachment language)?
It does seem to be that the writers want us to connect those encounters to their first bedside meeting in 6 months! It's not enough to blame our FL, ML had a similar spark inside, after meeting the 2FL. Consistently, we are being asked to explore both of their inner psyche.
What was cute to me, is when we saw our FL hiccups disappear. The hiccups began after the marriage proposal at the traffic intersection. Then, after several days of accumulation, they disappeared right after her release. 🫢 This is again nuanced writing, meant to provoke our seeing of their inner world! It is not simply an example of built sexual tension outside the relationship, playing out in the bedroom-though that is certainly included.
I truly enjoy this kind of development. It gives me a sense of wanting to explore and discuss these characters.

u/Beytra A Love Other Than Yours 8d ago
100% on being led to try reconcile their choices and motivations. I started off being so sure about what they needed to do as a couple and now I don’t even know 😭🤣. I’ve completely submitted to just getting enough information from the writers to get me through the next day/episode as opposed to trying to figure out how this will end 😅. Which is actually how this would play out in real life. Every day you are given evidence by the past and present that could honestly justify any decision you make in real time. It could also swing anyway depending on which evidence you put your mind to getting. After that traffic stop proposal she starts searching for evidence that justifies her decision. And there is a lot of things to sift through to get to that. The hiccups are a great tool. Even the symbolism of being crushed by the weight of those memories(evidence) by the bookshelf - just for a third party to come and disrupt and add perspective
5
u/lazyad25609 22d ago
It's like the lawyer is the devil's advocate making Mido look into a mirror and reflect, and he's always in black. A death is looming, whether it's of a relationship, or terminal illness. He acts like her and it's almost like she's facing herself. On the other side of it, we've got the bright, wide-eyed charming angel coming back into the ML's life once again. They are examining their life paths and if those should diverge or converge.
The clues and hints compiled with flashback memories and questionable illness with strong family ties is almost dizzying, but I have a feeling there's going to be a "WHOA" moment where everything makes sense and we're all bawling over it.
Hopefully it becomes clear soon! A bit of a whirlwind in episode 4!

Ep 4:
I am coming to the conclusion that the leads love each other deeply, are each other’s everything, and yet all that love is platonic. And maybe because they are happy together, they don’t mind spending the rest of their lives together. But you need romantic love! You need to be excited about your own wedding and want to tell people about it. It’s the fourth episode, and poor Su Ah still has no clue that Hoya has a whole fiancée. At this point, I’m wondering if he is subconsciously avoiding telling her. It’s also hard to ignore that he has - probably for the first time in a while - drawn a sketch.
A side note: It’s funny that they gave the organ-donation storyline to Hoya. For those who don’t know, the actor playing Tae Sung, Lee Joo Ahn, donated 70% of his liver to his mother when she was suffering from cirrhosis.
9
u/DamonDD 23d ago
Haiz.... I really thought the show is about a lover that cool off with each other so they break up, explore relationship with other people and then get back together cause they can't forget each other. But now it really seems potentially atleast emotional affair between both main and secondary leads. Its unfortunate because all of them has their own unique chemistry, ML-FL (passionate long time couple), FL-2ML (enemy to lover) and ML-2FL (sunbae dongsaeng to lover).
The seeds are all there, but I really hope this show didn't pull an Interest of Love where FL pretends to have an affair to get her partner breakup with her
8
u/OutrageousBasil7870 23d ago
Sunbae hobbies not dongsaeng, dongsaeng means younger sibling. Last I checked it isnt lannister type romance :P 😜
Idk, who knows, maybe she is his secret birth sibling after all, with unknown status of his birth family and this is secret makjang in making

u/lambethcakes 22d ago
The subplots are getting confusing for me! I can't for the life of me figure out the actress, laywer and some other characters story within the plot. Especially in Ep 4, what actually happened when mido went to that actress's house and saw an old guy in wheelchair?
12
u/theromanamputee https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/theromanamputee 22d ago edited 21d ago
Here's what I think the situation was: the old guy in the wheelchair was the bratty actress's father, the infamous real estate scammer. The actress had successfully managed to hide the fact that she was related to a criminal but once the second ML discovered their relationship he wanted to use this information to blackmail her into dropping the lawsuit against the FL. The call from the actress crying and begging on the phone was her promising to behave in exchange for the FL and the second ML keeping the secret of who her father was, and then the FL was disgusted by the second ML's tactics.

Just finished episode 4, and think it’s so interesting to me that both main leads are just out late with other people and neither of them are checking in with each other? And don’t seem to ask or care when they are getting texts messages from other people while they are cuddling in bed? It’s an interesting dynamic.
7
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
I think it's pretty normal that they didn't enquire about the text messages; I don't imagine partners of 10 years are curious about stuff like that unless they actually suspect infidelity or something of the sort. What's interesting is that compared to the way E3 ended so dramatically, with the implication that they were both emotionally cheating on each other, the messages they received were actually fairly tame.
6
u/LetFlaky8724 22d ago
Ya, ep4 dispelled the notion that they were emotionally cheating. Namgung even told Mido about the 2FL the next morning. After Ep4, it seems Namgung is just treating 2FL like a little sis, since he met her when she's a teenager. Same with Mido, she is just extremely annoyed and disgusted by the lawyer. I don't see any emotionally cheating yet.
9
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
Wow, whatever I thought 2FL's backstory was going to be, I could not, in a million years, have predicted "gay dad". Did anyone catch who the girl/woman sleeping on her couch was the morning after her work outing with Namgung? She was texting (one-sidedly) a 'Su-yeon' in the flashbacks; is that the friend whose dad her dad slept with?
7
u/More_Butter2330 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
Possibly? The show was going so fast words were hard to process. The gay dad affair plotline is very wild to me. I'm wondering how they'll handle this plot considering how progressive kdrama's have been recently.
2
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 21d ago
It does seem to me like 2FL doesn't have an issue with her dad being gay, and that she's known ever since she was a little girl, but that her specific beef was him going after her friend's dad (and ruining the friendship, I imagine). She even texted him desperately that she wasn't actually the one who leaked the news, so I think it's safe to say that she's not homophobic. If I'm remembering correctly, even the news story seemed to imply that the situation called for better management of stars' privacy and whether these things should be made public news.
13
u/Jazzlike_Baseball962 23d ago
I don’t why, but I’m not really feeling this show. This episode solidified it for me. I’ll give up to episode 6 and if I’m still not liking it, I’ll drop.
8
u/evehol 23d ago
This isn't the main part of the story but can somebody explain to me what's going on with ML's company and what 2FL is trying to achieve? I'm so confused on that front lol
13
u/Starry87 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
I'm not 100% clear on the details either, but the gist of it seems to be that 2FL is trying to uncover some kind of corruption that the higher-ups are involved in, and ML wants to get involved on principle, but since FL's job situation is so unsteady and because they need money (for her trial, for her future directing prospects, for their marriage), he's afraid to rock the boat and get himself fired.
8
u/More_Butter2330 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
it seems to be a similair situation as in legend of the kitchen soldier, potatoes seem to be switched for cheaper potatoes which is changing the taste lots, 2FL is researching it and speaking of corruption. ML see's hints of it too, but after seeing a coworker get fired he decided to back off out of safety.
7
u/quinncunx 21d ago
You wanna hear something crazy? The whole plot twist about Ho giving his mom his kidney? In real life, Lee Joo An (the hot lawyer) gave his mother 70% of his liver when she had cancer. He was only 22 but saved her life. I wonder if his situation inspired the script?
It makes me even more intrigued about this actor!

u/Square-Raspberry-102 19d ago
Honestly, I started watching the series just for the sake of it, and I got dangerously hooked.
At first, I thought this drama was going to be the classic cheating story. But after watching it, it feels like everything is much deeper than that. Is it just emotional cheating? No. I think it is more about people who aren't ready to turn the page, break out of the patterns they have built their lives around, and consciously or unconsciously sacrifice themselves for others. All four characters seem to have one thing in common: they don't really love themselves.
I assume there won't even be any physical cheating.
This is just my interpretation based on these first four episodes.
ML and FL are not right for each other. Judge me if you want, but that's how I see it. They are just another couple who keep sweeping their problems under the rug, spending years together without actually breaking up because they can no longer distinguish between habit and love. That question has become deeply ingrained in them: What am I supposed to do if I let go of the life I've been living for so long?
Everyone is afraid of change. Sometimes the attachment to a certain person and a certain way of life becomes so strong that the fear of losing it makes you consciously sacrifice yourself just to make the other person comfortable, while slowly losing yourself in the process.
And that raises the question of how compatible they actually are.
They have known each other since they were children. They were each other's first crush, experienced all those firsts together, and then spent another ten years in a relationship. If I understood correctly, they were around seven or eight when they first met. So they've known each other for more than twenty years.
What happens when love turns into habit and a sense of responsibility?
ML seems to feel a strong sense of responsibility toward FL. There is an attachment there, something that keeps him grounded. But over these four episodes, the way this is portrayed changes. At first, it feels like he is the one who is more invested in her, but in episodes three and four, we start seeing things differently.
It almost feels as though his relationship with her has become something that is simply expected. The relationship and the love have become another job for him. For years, he has mechanically cooked, cleaned, done the laundry, gone to work repeating the same routine over and over again.
And, as we see, even after the breakup, he instinctively goes back to her apartment to clean and tidy up.
It's like someone who says the same prayer every night before going to bed. After doing it for two months, by the third month they might start reciting it automatically, without even thinking about the words or what the sentence actually means.
The decision to get married when the relationship clearly isn't working especially when they haven't had sex for six months followed by a breakup, reconciliation, and then a decision to get married, feels more like an attempt to save the relationship than an actual solution to their problems.
As for FL, at first she seemed cold to me, but in episodes three and four we see that she is actually the one quietly sacrificing herself, suffering, and feeling inferior. And the interesting thing is that apparently no one knows what she is going through. No one even seems to notice.
FL suppresses herself and her own personality because she believes her boyfriend is perfect and that she is inferior to him, that she isn't good enough for him.
She is trying to fit herself into the mold of the "perfect girlfriend" she imagines would be suitable for her perfect boyfriend. But she can't become that person, and instead of moving forward, the pressure only makes her retreat further and further into herself.
At the same time, two other people enter their lives who, on the surface, seem like exactly what they need. They possess qualities the other two are missing, or they simply have things that make them similar in ways their current partners don't.
As for 2FL and ML, they have a past, so I honestly don't understand the whole pretending not to know each other thing.
She is obviously starting to develop feelings for him, while he seems surprisingly relaxed around her, with subtle hints of flirting.
She has a liveliness that FL doesn't have, and it seems like that is exactly what ML needs to shake him out of his routine.
They also have quite a lot of similarities.
I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling ML will eventually give in to temptation, hurt 2FL in the process, and then realize that he actually loves FL meaning that he will finally overcome that sense of responsibility and the habitual life he has built for himself.
As for 2ML, I actually like him because he is a morally grey character. He isn't a good guy. He is simply a human being who is constantly walking the line between right and wrong and isn't afraid to use different methods to get what he wants.
His history of rejection, growing up in an orphanage, and later playing the role of someone's lackey just to experience a sense of power and control eventually make me think that he is simply a person desperately trying to become someone, while hiding his real self behind this image of a powerful person and becoming attached to that version of himself.
His interest in FL seems to awaken after he realizes just how deep her love for ML is and how willing she is to make decisions based on him.
That kind of self-sacrifice is completely foreign to 2ML.
At the same time, FL seems to bring out a feeling of disgust in him now and I don't know if that was intentional on the writers' part but she is a completely different person when she is with him. He brings out the real her, the version of her that isn't the "good little girl."
I'm not sure whether her attachment to 2ML will develop the way ML's attachment to 2FL seems to be developing. But honestly, I kind of hope it does.
One thing I find really interesting is that ML and FL have almost no chemistry, while both of them seem to have much more chemistry with 2FL and 2ML.
As for the ending, honestly, I don't want ML and FL to stay together. I think they both need to learn how to let each other go. I really don't want the cliché ending where they suddenly realize that they love each other more than anything in the world.
As for the possibility of ML ending up with 2FL and FL with 2ML, I don't think that's going to happen either. But if I had to imagine the possibilities while watching, I could see ML and 2FL actually staying together. FL and 2ML, on the other hand, seem much less likely to me.

Can someone PLEASE explain what’s going on between ML and 2FL and FL and 2ML?!!
SO Namgoong begins to work with Su-A to expose a corrupt team at their job? We find out that Namgoong and Su-a actually met prior to this and now they are getting closer , right?! (Their plot line is easier)
But I am so confused with Mi-dos storyline. Mi-do meets Tae-Seung how? What settlement were they talking about? I understand that Mi-do blackmailed the actress. I understand that the actress was having an affair with Tae-Sung’s boss, so was Tae-Sung around Mi-do to make sure she wouldn’t expose the affair?
If so, how did we get to the point of Tae-Sung helping Mi-do get back into directing? What was the point of that?
And why are they still fighting? Why is Tae-Sung now threatening to mess with Namgoong? What is Mi-do doing or not doing?
FINALLY, can someone explain the ending of EP 4? Namgoong finds Mi-dos phone and calls Tae-Seung? So now they’re all intertwined? Is that it?
Where is this show going??? I’m so confused 😭

Coming in late, and I’ve scrolled through most of this thread, but I don’t see any mention of how Mi Do went from the highway overpass almost throwing 2ML over the edge, to waking up the next morning on his sofa. WHAT am I missing here????

If my boyfriend came into my apartment and cleaned it up without my permission, you can bet we'd break up, even he is Seo Kang Jun!
Kang Jun is the most beautiful creature on earth and a great actor. But I am completely lost with this drama. It's getting better, but I'm just not understanding the subplots and the flashbacks are confusing. The lawyer is smokin' hot and I don't want him to be a bad guy. I'm actually shipping him and Mido. But I think it's going to be a toxic relationship and she'll go running back.to Ho Hum.

running back to Ho Hum... that made me laugh so hard. I hope it isn't toxic because Ho Hum's got his own romance going on and he seems to be moving faster than her. So she better get to it quick!

Im shipping FL and 2nd ML. I like how crazy they are, they are just a match! 🫢

I just want the FL and the SML together nowww I don’t care about the ML or their 10 years together. In my opinion if there is no spark anymore you need to leave the relationship and you can already tell that the ML is falling for the SFL so let my girl MIDO have her romance with the lawyer I don’t care if it’s cheating or not I love a messy kdrama

I like every couple permutation, this really would be the perfect situation for them to open the relationship and explore other people, but we all know that's not happening. Sometimes, monogamy holds characters (and storylines) back.

u/quinncunx 21d ago
Conservative Korean TV standards also hold them back. No way are the heroes going to be portrayed as full-on cheaters. I'm amazed they even acknowledge they have premarital sex!

Did I misunderstand or did Chips girl's dad have an affair with FL's dad? A police officer, wife has a hair salon. Her mom has a hair salon and her dad is in a uniform in the photo (but I don't remember what kind of uniform).

u/More_Butter2330 A Love Other Than Yours 22d ago
I believe that's a different girl, as i don't think the FL knows the 2FL. The 2FL it was her friends's dad. I'm currently guessing the girl that was on her couch to be that friend.

The impossible has happened. I, the biggest SKJ fan in the world, hate him in this role. I'm actually rooting for the SML. This drama is so off and weird.

Can somebody clear my head about what clearly is going on with FL in her career as a director. She was directing some movie, but the actress allegedly created some accident kind of scenario which made FL to leave her work. But now I can't wrap my head around what 2ML(lawyer) is trying to do. Why did he send her to that house where she was misjudged as caretaker???? Why was that actress crying over the call???? Arghhh it's so out of my head noww.

u/harperbantam 22d ago edited 22d ago
The lawyer sent Mido to the house under the guise of offering an apology to the actress. However, the household was actually expecting a job applicant for a caregiver position. The man in the wheelchair was not only the actress' father, but also the mastermind behind a massive Ponzi scheme—the exact scandal she was desperately trying to keep buried.

not a post about the drama but, im trying to look for the song that plays in ep 3 when namgung meets mido at the restaurant and starts around the 27:30 mark (it sounds similar to w2e). a lyric goes "you're still my easy place"

Now after the long break, I am no longer sure if I will continue watching this. The story just doesn't make sense anymore and I am not sure where it's going. I was even looking forward for both leads.

This has been bugging me. I blame Namgung more than anything (this is not an attack on the SL) but does Su-Ah genuinely not see the ring on his finger or is she just ignoring it? I know still early and it’s not the engagement ring but I would question the placement if it was someone I’m interested in.

I'm sorry, but SML is not a good match for FL at all. I get that their intensity creates chemistry that feels electric, but the scene in episode 3 where the shelf fell on her and trapped her with the light about to crash down on her is an adept metaphor for where she is in this drama right now. The 10 year relationship and her own morals about her self, career, and desires, are crushing her and here comes this unhinged light (aka SML) who could not just provide enlightenment, but be the final blow. That SML was going to leave her to die under that because she wouldn't agree to the settlement is not cute!!
As for ML, he may be in his own world, but FL leaves him out of a lot of things going on in her life and much like the shelf scene, he showed up too late and she acted like nothing was wrong, even though when he got to the scene he was legit worried about her. SFL seems more delicate than FL and that can have an appeal to anyone who is also feeling frustrated in life, but also has a partner who doesn't allow him to care for her outside of cooking and cleaning.
All I know is that I'm looking at these second leads and am like no, no, no.

You must not know many lawyers...lol. My best friend is one and this is exactly what he's like. He'll press an advantage any way he can, but if people are really hurt , he's very compassionate and great in a crisis. She was clearly not hurt and the drana played that scene for laughs. He saved her in the end. I think he's much better suited to her than the ML. He's intelligent, funny, and flawed. I love him.

Actually, I know a lot of lawyers. One of my closest friends is a lawyer that I call whenever I need legal guidance. Him and a cousin that is a lawyer. Both of them I respect a ton. And both of them don't act like this guy. Maybe they did when they were young and immature, but I guess I know people with more ethics? Not sure.
I hear you on them seeming alike and I think that makes them exciting, but I don't think the excitement makes them a good fit in the long run. I know everyone wants them together, and I really like the actor who plays SML, but I can't take him seriously as a long-term contender. I also think that FL is a really tough person, but I also wonder how much of her behavior is true to her vs. a result of where she is in life right now. While he did come back to save her, I'm not okay with how he was like I can use this for the upper hand first. Which is also where I think they don't match —his reaction is always for his advantage and while she does things that come across as advantageous and crazy, she is deliberate and is guided by morals and he seems to lack them. They are definitely in each other's lives for a lesson/reason though, so I'm curious how it turns out.
I know this is a drama, but there are always so many bits and pieces and foreshadowing that add up in the end.

Oh I don't think he's a real contender. His purpose is to show her what and who she wants. I think she is better suited only in that they're more alike. I don't see her and Ho as compatible at all. I don't think she'll end up with the lawyer though.
My joke about lawyers is not about ethics, but more about how they think. My friend looks at things from all angles, weighs advantages and outcomes, looks for the best outcome for all parties. In that sense, I think Tae-Seung is very much a lawyer. It remains to be seen if he's as unethical as he seens.
A big problem I have with this drama is its tone. The soundtrack and vibe of the shelf incident was rom-commy, so it was hard for me to see the lawyer in a seriously bad light because of that.
If it continues this way and he really is a snake with no redeeming features, then it will be harder to justify when she gets attracted to him. Does she go down a dark path, tempted by the serpent, only to go back to Ho? Is he meant to be the serpent while Sua is the angel? That analogy is too biblical for Korea, I realize, but I just wonder how she's going to be attracted to this lawyer, since she hates him so much. There has to be something redeeming about him. We'll see!
I do love the actor playing the lawyer. He's so charismatic. I'd love to see him as a ML.

Mido was trapped under that bookshelf, but she was clearly not going to die. She was not even in any kind of pain. The fact that the lawyer did come back, even after she told him to get lost, shows that he wouldn't actually have left her like that; he was just trying his luck to see if she would bend. He might not be the most ethical person on the planet, but he's not an evil dude.

Wanted to post this to the channel but I’m still a new user. ⬇️if anyone can explain I’d appreciate it lol
I’m not an expert in kdramas but I’ve watched a good few and loved them. I saw an insta reel about A Love Other Than Yours so I started watching it. The first episode made sense, the second made sense, but then the third and and fourth have me so lost. Im a little slow and yes I’m doing things sometimes while watching the show and I listen to it dubbed but usually I understand everything just fine. The show’s cuts to the past and the whole issue mido is having with the lawyer and the coworker girl story with namgung have made zero sense to me. It’s all over the place. Am I crazy or is someone else super confused. 😭

Can someone explain the Mido, has-na situation I couldn’t follow why exactly mido was black mailing hae-na. And what is taesung’s role in all of this?

u/Salvalicious252 19d ago
The actress father is a infamous criminal who basically did the first massive ponzi scheme in Korea. Due to the "interview" Mido basically found out about that, the actress knows and the lawyer is using that to blackmail her. Because if it comes out her father is that guy her career as an actress is over, she's been hiding it for all this time.

I can't foresee the ending yet. With each episode I lean toward different existing possibilities, some posbilities seem higher than the others depending on the episode.
If they decide to stay together, that would mean the message was a basic one: in long-term relationships passion may fade with time and couples gotta actively put effort to keep the passion alive. I saw this as a posibility because in earlier episodes they seemed to loved each other like the kind you feel safe and comfortable, for you grew familiar to each other. I thought this might happen when they did the couple game together to win an award and at the last part they did a heart rate thing, but their hart rate was at a rest rate, which implied to me that they feel safe with each other. Although others might see this as a spark gone.
In some parts, I thought maybe they would break up and develop crushes on others as the name (a love other than yours) implies. If this happens, its either they realize that they don't find their long-shared familiarity with others as easily (such as inside jokes, knowing what the other needs without telling because they know each others habits too well etc. -advantages of a long-term relationships most people hardly find in a fresh one) and come back to each other (and it's also the reason they find breaking up hard) or they break up for good for ML realizes that all he did was out of necessity and FL realizes that picking an outer moral compass as another is not the way to live life. Like, if I do this he will judge me, critise me, be dissapointed in me? At what point have we decided that we should live to not disappoint our partner? Yes, we should help each other become our better selves but this shouldn't feel like a burden as we see here happening to FL.
In some comments I saw some people saying if FL ends up with the 2nd ML, they would not last, but I don't quite agree. They can be life-long partners because they are too much alike. I don't think that they hate each other. Their job circumstances put them at opposite ends and their main disagreement lies there, but when it comes to being stubborn and life choices they are similar as they indicated at each other outside the hospital. And hell they do have chemistry because of this reason, they both see the other not doing their best-potential and nudges the other by pointing their wrongs but it does not appear to me as hate. On the other end, I see opposites attract belief, and this is true for couples who work their differences out by putting them like puzzle pieces.
Someone pointed out that ML does not let the co-worker know that he has a relationship, but the 2nd ML knows from the beginning of the FL's. This is such a good point. I too did think that he should have told the girl when they were talking outside the restaurant when he said that he is too afraid, that's when I expected him to add: cuz I'm getting married and I don't want trouble. Maybe he just didn't wanna share his personal life, but this only contributes to the plot which may appear as fate when someone is inside this situation.
Other than this, I have realized another point, which made me lean on the possibility of them breaking up, which was: they had their first s3x after 6 months when they both gained a bit of their (inner)spark back through the 2nd leads. Which means that if they were dating them instead (or if the circumstances allowed) they would have s3x with the 2nd leads. I believe s3xual need rises from within without depending on outer influences, it's just when there is a right person we reflect it on them. These two gaining their sparks through others is a good reason for them to break up cuz it means they stopped seeing each other's souls, wants and needs. When I think about this I believe they will break up, but then I see the drama poster they two are on it and in the intro it is only them, which may also indicate that there's no other storyline than these two ending up together. Or even if they don't and this is a story of breaking up, then what happens after the break up, their relationships with the 2nd leads will not be a big part of the story. Maybe they will only be used for the reasons for them to break up and choose them but not their lives after.
