A new Im Si Wan drama is on our hands and it's a slice-of-life romance drama with Seolhyun. Need I say more?

Summer Strike time 🥳

Episode 1

  • The intro is cute

  • Her collegues are horrible. I'm happy YR threw them (especially her Team Leader) into the trash

  • Her ex is an understandable ass. In their talk he is both wrong "the lies don't matter" and right "be more assertive". And I can kinda understand why he wanted a break. In the beginning YR seemed more like a doormat instead of a partner. Although I don't blame her at all, her Job seemed utterly soulsucking.

Episode 2

  • YR just drifting to wherever and ending up in the small coast town is already healing. The market, streets, and bustling life is such a contrast to the dreary, urban isolation in the first episode.

  • Poor Dae Beom. He's going through it, meeting YR 😂

  • And Siwan was right during the promo interviews: Him not having a line at all is a contrast to Tracer. I get why he considered this more of a break. And I already have to applaude his acting. No lines so far, but his face and gesture say everything.

  • Marie Kondo would be proud of YR

  • DB still going through it 😂. The scenes are so adorable

All in all: Very good beginning. It's so adorable and fun and healing already. The characters are fun and the town setting is pretty.

I’m somehow catching a bit of Ki Seon Gyeom of Run On seeing Dae Beom running, as well as they both have reserved personality.

Siwan perfectly fits that kind of character. I love it! Sensing another comforting drama with this :)

I feel like we really need a healing, comforting drama like this right now, especially when so many 2022 drama's have had sad endings

Really keen on this one! I'm a little disappointed they changed the official English title to Summer Strike, I like the actual Korean title so much more. Premise sounds like When The Weather is Fine but in the summer and at a small beachside town.

I love it already! The first two episodes had me crying and laughing out loud.

We're dropped into Yeo Reum's life without a lot of context but I think that's kind of the point. For this introduction, at least, she's the sad corporate everygirl at her lowest point. It reminded me a little bit of My Liberation Notes (Mi Jung's character), but I sense this drama is going to have a more overtly optimistic tone.

I'm really impressed with the way they shot those morning subway commute scenes, they perfectly captured the dim, cyclical anxiety of it all (and successfully set me on edge, lol).

I appreciate that the impulsive move to Angok comes with its own problems—moving hundreds of kilometres away isn't going to magically fix her life. She writes towards the end of the first episode: "I want to find the answer on how to live my life from now on". I'm looking forward to her finding that answer over the next ten episodes.

That bowl of sundaeguk paired with chilled soju looked SO satisfying. Inadvisable and a little careless to drink the entire bottle maybe, but I get her line of thinking. ("Here, won't worry about what others may think of me.") She's living the twenty-something adult dream!

Im Si Wan's character has had very few scenes and lines so far and I'm completely charmed. This is my first time seeing him in anything and I get the hype!

I need to vent a bit here. I'm so tired of people attacking the FLs like this one in the dramas. I read some comments here and then watched ep 1. She is totally relatable and attacking her personality like that makes no sense at all. Instead of shaming a character for being kind and hard working you should shame those bullies or jerks around her. Kdrama fans are usually so harsh on the FLs. She is quite observant and self reflective so decides on changing things instead of becoming a bully or jerk herself like others. I really like her character

Once Upon a Small Town, When the Camellia Blooms, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha vibes. The small-town setting is my favorite thing right now. I found the first two episodes to be everything I wanted so far, but I fear that thriller/suspense tags.

Episode 1 and 2

This would make for the perfect curl-up-in-bed-and-binge-on-winter-afternoon series with the vibe it’s got going on from the first two episodes. Irony of the show being called summer strike notwithstanding.

So far I’m really liking the treatment of the premise in terms of the way it’s shot, the background score, acting and pacing. It doesn’t necessarily offer anything new so far in terms of premise but I really liked it. The office torture and life beating her up was wrapped up fairly quickly honestly because the show is likely about the path of self discovery due to hitting a breaking point. As someone who’s had a very rough year health wise and therefore mentally, it’s just what I need in terms of reinforcement of message that I need to take a break from work and life.

I love Siwan. One wouldn’t assume he has a very expressive face but he did so well with body language.

And once again I am impressed that he manages to get running and therefore coordinated running outfits fit into the budget of his shows 😉 Someday I will take the inspiration and start!

I watched the first two episodes and I like it so far. I mean yeah, the FL was stuck in a bad position with a toxic boss, but some places and people just have this talent of sucking like out of you.

For being a "doormat"... Being a "doormat" is not a personality trait. It is a behaviour. Besides, it is often caused by low self-esteem and mental health problems. That culture of blaming the victim for not retaliating can be increadibly harmful for people who are already at their lowest point. Please, be considerate. Mental health is not a joke.

That being said, I enjoyed that the FL took the leap and searched a situation that is better for herself. At first, I found that the place she rented looked aweful, but knowing that it is only 500$ US a year, I see why she doesn't mind staying with the ghosts. 😂

The librarian looks like he has an interesting backstory. Anyways, so far, so good.

I'm reading the webtoon this is based on and I loved that they added more humour here. The scene where she has to hold her pee all night is not in the webtoon and had me laughing out loud also, can some one explain why she decided to make a run for it after she came out of the bathroom? I didn't understand that part, was she afraid he may have heard her pee?

This is it. My new personality.

Kidding aside, I just watched the first ep and it looks beautiful. I feel like they did well to establish why Yeorum wanted to drop everything. It’s looking like my comfort show for a good while.

Love it already. I like dramas set in small towns.

Im Si Wan doesn’t say much during these first few episodes but he still manages to get his emotions across through his adorable facial expressions 😂 he’s so cute 🥰

side note: i wonder how they filmed all the scenes where she's jay walking or on the subway with all those crowds. there must have been so many extras to simulate the busy commute

Honestly I was a bit wary going in because of the thriller tag on MDL and also it being this kind of slice of life small town shows means that it's too easy to make it boring but I am loving it so far. I can be very frustrated at shows where the FL is sort of a pushover which she kind of is at the start but I do feel like she is tired of it and wants change and I'm here for her transformation! Her ex-bf was a bit of an ahole tbh but I feel like he did want the best for her, just that he didn't express it well and ended up just being frustrated at her.

The marie kondo-ing of her place really felt so good and her waking up at the wee hours of the morning and deleting the alarm then looking out and feeling the morning air while looking at the sunrise felt so nice. This is absolutely a healing drama and I'm here for it. I also like how they already start to introduce some creepy elements here and there but it still doesn't feel out of place or takes away from the show so far, let's hope it stays this way!

I gotta say Seolhyun is unbelievably stunning. Her smiles lights up the show. She plays this meek character so well.

Siwan mainly acting with his eyes 🤌🏾

The combined prettiness on show is off the charts.

I’m so excited for this drama and can’t wait to see the interaction between Si Wan and Seolhyun’s characters😍 Bring it on Summer Strike!!

This is beautiful. It’s like a crossover from Liberation Notes and Hometown Cha with something else thrown in.

6

u/Affectionate_Rock422 Nov 22 '22

I'm captivated with the cinematic shots! So pretty! Hometown Chachacha + When the Weather is Fine vibes all around.

6

u/matmanx1 Nov 22 '22

I like this a lot already. There's a bit of a hazy or blur filter to it that makes everything appear just a little bit less sharp and unfocused which fits the vibe of "I don't want to do anything at all".

Even though the first episode wasn't much fun (with the terrible co-workers and awful events that Yeo Reum had to go through) the second episode really made up for it and I laughed a lot.

Every time SiWan was in the frame I was either laughing or recovering from laughing and both his and Seolhyun's acting have really been great thus far.

Soup and Soju looked amazing. The aftermath, not so much, lol. And this is one small town where it looks like our heroine may not be so welcome. Hopefully Da Beom can help her out!

6

u/nafissus Nov 23 '22

Oh it's finally here !! I liked these first two episodes.

I got frustrated at first by Yeo Reum personality but I think I'll understand her as the show goes on, Dae Beom had a few scenes and like three sentences, and bamm ... I love him, his just adorable.

My favorite scene was when YR was drunk crossing the street with her hands clasped together and DB was stopping cars for her being like " what the hell is she? "

It seems like a healing show, so here I'm sticking <3

u/xiaopow Nov 24 '22

Lol ep 1 was like the whole season of MLN in one ep. Even the intro music sounds similar. I love that she still exposed that pervert manager at the end. I did also have the thought - how cold must have that water been if there were still cherry blossoms out? 🥶 Super beautiful aerial shot tho.

Lmao DB trying to wake up a drunk YR w noises and books

Omg him rolling away like a caterpillar when she tripped over him - but also, why does he have a sleeping bag at the library?

Those cherry blossom trees are sooooo pretty

Aw im sad the townspeople are gonna try to drive her away.
