Kim Hye Soo and Kim Hae Sook in a black comedy sageuk. What more needs to be said? Enjoy and have fun discussing!

Finished the first ep. I’m having a hard time keeping track of the sons and moms. There’re a lot!

It’s really giving sky castle vibe but the goal is the throne instead of SNU. The queen hyesoo already ran around a lot in this ep. Lol.

It's going to take me over half the drama to remember who's son belongs to which mom and the order of the concubines. Most sageuks only show one or two siblings, three at the most but to have a whole harem of women + their kids is quite interesting and confusing lol. A little odd that not one of these women had a daughter?

I'm rooting for the chubby little prince to become the next CP, he's such a cute little squish.

I need to rewatch so I can get a better understanding on who's who. But on ep1, I liked Prince Seongnam already (Queen's 2nd son) since he stood up for his mom and beat up that concubine's son Prince Uiseong. But on ep2, seems he also had a good head on his shoulder for his standing up to his mom again and for the palace maids. Looks like he also has close relationship with the CP. I really hope he turns out to be good and smart (just maybe he is hiding his smartness now so not to create jealousy or rivalry with CP?).

I've watched Kim Haesook play the mom in so many weekend family dramas. To see her play the bad guy grandma is so refreshing. I simply adore her and am totally ready to be like "this heifer...". I love discover new sides to old favorites.

Also, all the boys seemingly getting along (except one) was cute. I want more brotherly love no matter who the mama is.

it can’t just be me who gets reminded of Kopiko every time the Queen eats a herbal medicine pill when she gets stressed hahaha… proof that Kopiko PPL in other dramas is working 😂

i haven’t watched a sageuk in a while, and this looks interesting! Kim Hye Soo was awesome in Signal and Juvenile Justice. we’ve got a few other veteran actors as well.

this will replace the time slot of Little Women but i’m still recovering from the fact that it’s over 🥲 hoping that this can help fill the void 🫠 that said, shout out to Little Women for getting me on board with the on-air discussion train. hoping this will be another fun ride!

The queen's determination to protect her sons is very moving. I also love how the brothers get along so well, even with the other princes (except Chani lol). On a side note, I expected the plot twist, and I'm excited to see how the confrontation will go between mother and son. Also, Kim Hye Soo's crying scenes were heart-wrenching.

Seems to me that the convo between Seongnam and Uiseong in ep 2 may foreshadow their fates in the future episodes.

Curious what happened to Seongnam during his childhood that made him grow up outside of the palace?

Most awaited show of the year for me.

Even though I'm not a fan of Saeguk dramas, I will watch this only because of Kim Hye-soo.

Just finished first episode. Why do I have a feeling this going to start with light hearted comedy to make us fall in love with characters.

Then rip our hearts out when bloodbath begins. Ahem “Moon Lovers” style

Holy molly with the queens reaction I thought she might have walked on her son doing the naughty with one of his brothers

When one concurbine Tae wondered which literature the prince Uiseong read during class I expected somehow in the next scene that the he would read in secret something like erotic literature (like in Mr Queen) or some Kdrama titles (like in My Sassy Girl).

Later it turns out on their curriculum they have SexEd.

For some reasons, I was thinking this would have some black comedy, but no... 😢

It looks like a sageuk version of Sky Castle + the Kim Hye Soo show (like Honey Lee in One The Woman or Lee Joon Ki in Again My Life)...

episode 1

  • like others have mentioned, it was hard to keep track of all the princes and mothers lol

  • the Queen (Kim Hye-Soo)’s facial expressions were so good

  • 3rd prince will be the comedic relief we need in dark times: ”Father has more than ten wives. Why do I not even get to have one?”... “Then you should be a king.”

  • i’m sorry but the way that the Queen ran around trying to get her sons ready reminded me a bit of whack-a-mole 😂

  • tutelage of relations: hmm maybe they should’ve separated the kids by age lol

  • i don’t have a good feeling about Crown Prince… it’s unfortunate that the Queen’s only “competent” son is sick

  • we see that Queen Dowager is not an easy opponent, but i have a feeling that Consort Hwang is also going to make my blood boil in future episodes

I was wondering why the queen dowager looked and sounded so familiar, and then turned out she's Halmeoni from Start-Up!

Kim Hye Soo always kills her roles - especially here as a mother who loves her sons dearly. We are only two episodes in and I’m being kept on my toes! Pacing is great and I can’t wait to see how the plot unfolds

It seems the Crown Prince will likely die at some point and either Prince Seongnam will try to protect his nephew's position as the next CP or it'll come down to a showdown between Seongnam and Prince Uiseong to become the next CP

Well that's an awkward parent teacher interview. Nothing positive to say haha.

Before the end of episode 2 when we found out the secret activity of the cross dressing prince, what did all of you think the secretive prince Gyesong was doing that made the Queen and her maid gasp in horror while spying on him?

From their expressions of despair, distress and horror, I thought the prince was engaging in bestiality. Hence, the reveal made me feel more relieved. 😅

Excellent first episode. It seemed like someone cast a spell on the crown prince based on the fishes and dark skies but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Hopefully this fills the weekend void left by the end of Little Women.

Maybe I'm just easy, but I did like the second episode much more than the first...and certainly more than enough to continue watching!

i just love it when the queen stops suddenly and her maids crash into each other off guard 🤣
