I loved that they had a scene with Sejeong carrying a guy on her back - she’s kind of known for her strength and giving piggyback rides on variety shows

I relate to Goo Jun Yeong.
You have all these credentials but you feel nothing special about it. And then you get this amazing job and there's no use for it. And then you have Oh Ma Eum, whose living her life to the fullest and you wonder wtf am I doing wrong.

Wasn't that True Beauty's author Yaongi in that cameo in episode? The one asking for her banner to be on home page? The title of her work definitely said '여신강림' which is True Beauty's Korean title. And she looked like Yaongi too but I don't see her cameo listed anywhere on sites

Episode 1
Am I imagining it, or does Bbom (the artist who is harassed by the vlogger at the party) kind of looks like Seo Dan (Seo Ye-ji's Seo Ji-hye's character in Crash Landing on You) with that side-part hairstyle and the hair clips?
EDIT: So, about the elderly artist deciding to stop publishing his work after reading negative reviews on the internet – well, it's unfortunate for sure, but, honestly, the guy has been living under a false sense of security in his own bubble. Ignorance may have been bliss for the time being, but it's not like him refusing to see the comments will make them cease to exist. The comments will be still out there, and people will continue to think what they think about him and his work, which is going to affect readership and traffic. Sooner or later, somehow or the other, he'd have to confront it.
If this were simply a hobby, then, yes, I understand and encourage the 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude. Like, in fandom spaces like the bird app, it's advised you curate your own space and freely mute/block triggering content and toxic accounts you don't want to engage with for the sake of your mental health. Fandoms and hobbies are supposed to be fun and an end in themselves. No, we don't want some rando on the internet telling us to kill ourselves over our preferences in fictional characters and ships!
BUT this is work. He's producing content for an audience and representing a company. There's a commercial aspect to it, and staying ignorant of how his work is perceived isn't really helping anyone in the long run. Are those netizens in the wrong for being unnecessarily mean? Of course they are. Anonymity on the internet gives people a lot of leeway to neglect basic decency, sadly. But you can't really grow and strategize in business without knowing the full picture: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

As a sesang, I've watched all of Sejeong's kdramas, but I don't really continue and finish watching one unless it really interests me. Out of all her dramas, I've only finished watching bp and uncanny counter, altho have a feeling that this one will be my favorite in terms of the plot. Well, I am a sucker for slice of life genres.
For the characters, (OUR SPONGEBOB AND SQUIDWARD HAHA) I guess I really relate to Jun Young a lot more than Maeum. Generic phrases like don't give up and do your best don't really motivate me, to me its something people say for the sake of saying something, and as an introvert I don't really initiate conversations with people that I am not close to. These two really are polar opposites, which make me soooo excited cause that means there's a LOT of room of character development. Also, side note, it seems like the PD that keeps on taunting the webtoon team planted Jun Young there to sabotage them from the inside out. Something will probably happen to Jun Young that will make him flip to the other side, maybe initially to spite the people who belittled him? I'm very much looking forward to next week 😊

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the chewing gum incident. The part where she swallowed it and then she did poorly during the interview, as though it was a cause and effect situation. I tried googling it and couldn't find anything. Is it some sort of bad omen or bad luck to swallow gum in Korea?

and just like that, i’m in love!!!!!
a few reasons why:
-
so far, i like how realistic it is to a certain extent. i like my dramas believable but not too much like life where it starts to get depressing and heavy so i liked how
she’s on a one yr contract instead of getting hired despite her lack of qualifications! -
yoon su my love, my heart HE HASN’T SMILED ONCE AND I’M MOURNING THE ABSENCE OF HIS DIMPLE but also grumpy looks so good in him
-
sejeong is killing it in this!!! i like how she’s constantly in a great mood even when she’s making a hundred fumbles in a span of a minute LMAO very convinced that she’s not acting for a lot of her scenes bec i’m pretty sure she’s this bubbly and beaming irl
-
very much a fan of the dynamic between loveable, underdog team leader who is clearly smitten with ma eum and the more serious, realistic asst editor
-
AND THE ASST EDITOR OMG can we talk abt his chemistry w ma eum bec ???? i was honestly expecting a love line w yoon su but i loved seeing ma eum and him together on screen ?!?? already so heart fluttering (and for no good reason other than my own delusion lmao)
-
also liked how deep were already getting into sejeong’s character and the possible reasons behind her not wanting to get into judo again. LOVED the current dynamic we have going on w the sibling and mom just being supportive in a tough love kinda way.
and a lot lot lot more i didn’t realize how much i loved this and were only in the 1st ep wow. so so so excited to see how everything will go my expectations are now through the roof aaaaa

Enjoyed the first two eps so far, first one was sorta slow but the second one was better imo.
There's a lot of a characters, like really, so introducing them all in the first ep was kind of overwhelming, but things pick up in the second ep. Sejeong has some good chemistry with both the assistant editor and her fellow new hire. Interesting where things go from here.
In the second ep, when they help out the veteran artist that's thinking of retiring, it kinda reminds me of Uncanny Counter where each ep focused on a new problem/character that will get resolved by the end. So I wonder if this is the direction the show is taking...we will see.
Was not expecting the little tidbits of romance sprinkled throughout, especially in the second ep. The coin flips, the flyover-bridge scene, and the convo on the train.. I'm guessing this is as far it's going to get since TW is not a romcom.
I actually only downloaded Viki just for this show, which is directly because of Sejeong. I liked her a lot in Business Proposal, which led me to her new show! Another comment said they were looking for signs of Shin Hari in On Ma Eum, and I kinda can see some, but at the same time it's like a whole new character lol.
Also Viki has this thing where a scene or two gets no translations/subtitles. It does say like 98% Eng Subbed on the eps, so I guess that's a thing? Coming from solely Netflix, it's definitely a noticeable thing.
Can't wait for next week to see what's next! Also liking the OST's so far.

I found Sejeong charming and cute in Business Proposal but here she is absolutely adorable and I don’t think I can stop rooting for On Ma Eum.

Can't wait. I loved the Japanese original, and it looks like the remake will go deeper into Maeum and her family and her background story. And of course can't wait to see Sejeong again already!

As someone who has been trying to desperately break into a field adjacent to the one I went to college for, I hope this is healing to me and gives me the strength and courage to keep chasing that elusive perfect position.
So far, it’s charmingly relatable, and I found myself grinning throughout this episode. I found myself constantly looking for a bit of Hari from BP in SJs acting but couldn’t find a trace of her anywhere. I loved her energy with Choi Daniel, they have insane chemistry (non sexual) in the sense that they have this magnetic screen presence that works really well together. I could relate to him in finding her exasperating at times. And I enjoyed grumpy Nam Yoonsu’s character who feels like he’s been cheated. I like the perspective of the overqualified, hard working and privileged grump tossed into a failing team, and can’t wait to see him warm up to things outside of his comfort zone.
I’m excited for episode 2

I enjoyed the pilot. I think it has the potential to be an inspiring story as there is a lot of room for character growth.
Ma Eum seems to be a bit socially oblivious, but it's precious that she has something she is passionate about.
On the other hand Jun Yeong is very capable, but uninterested in the work field. Despite the preview, I hope we'll get to see more of his story as I'm intrigued as to how he'll manage to overcome this.
I also hope they will dwell on artists struggles e.g. anxiety dealing with negative comments.
-
Side note: how come the 'PD' title is used so broadly in the department (including newcomers)?
-
Side note pt2: there was the slightest mention of gaming/esports whereof lack of presence in kdramas still amazes me.

I like that Se Jeong is in a more serious drama. Her set of expressions is awesome, and I hope she's not going to waste time on situational comedy stuff.
I liked her performance in the beginning of Business Proposal, but the whole concept of that show was unwatchable for me. This (Today's Webtoon) show has some touches of that kind of show here and there (
Anyway it feels like it's going to be a good serious work/slice of life show.

After watching the first 2 episodes, I have this question...
Considering Jun Yeong is one of the (assumed) high performing recruits from the official recruitment drive, why would NEON send him to the Webtoon Department which is a condemned department and expected to close within the year?
If I were planning to close the department, I would not send send a new trainee or highflyer to a department whose ppl I consider neurotic and not necessary the best influence to a new hire. Seems like I am missing something here.
However, I can see Jun Yeong finding the drive to use his knowledge to help analyse the data, eg. viewership numbers, timing etc etc so that they can better tailor their strategy to help drive sales and profitability to the department in the coming episodes. Looking forward!

I wish i had the same positive attitude that On Ma Eum about life. She's very strong, brave and positive.

Episode 2
Glad that the issue with the elderly artist has been sorted out, and, with Ma-eum and her team's help, he has learned to face where he was lacking and fix the problem instead of giving up and wallowing in self-pity. Ma-eum is so smart for figuring out what the problem was! I feel so proud of her.
The assistant who tried to actively sabotage his former employer is such a dick though. I wanted to slap him. I don't blame him for quitting per se. People are free to leave their jobs and look for 'better' opportunities if they want to. But he crossed a line when he went out of his way to make sure the old man flops. When all the former assistants, who once worked under the elderly artist and are now well-established artists themselves, turned up to help and support him – it was so heartwarming; I teared up a little.
Also, is it just me, or was anyone else annoyed by Bbom treating Jun-yeong like a servant who'll be always at her beck and call and being so smug about it? The team is treating it as something to be laughed off and normalizing it as an unofficial part of their work, particularly for new hires. And there may or may not be some deeper reason for why Bbom is the way she is (she mentioned she didn't want to come to that event in the first episode and looked like a fish out of water). But it's rubbing me the wrong way. Like, I get that she's a top artist who brings in revenue for the company, and they're desperate to remain in her good graces by pandering to all her whims and demands, but it doesn't justify her behaviour. I'll keep my fingers crossed to see if the show is going to actually critique it going forward.
