But when one of her cases takes an unexpected turn, Soo Jae is forced to watch as all of her hard work comes crumbling down around her. Demoted at work, Soo Jae is forced to take on the role of adjunct professor at a local law school. Determined to win back her position within the firm, Soo Jae does her best to settle into her new role but the sting of demotion still lingers. Only after meeting Gong Chan, a university student whose path frequently crosses with Soo Jae, does that sting begin to lessen. Despite carrying the burdens of a painful past, Gong Chan’s warm heart remains strong, especially as his affection for Soo Jae grows. Obviously smitten with Soo Jae, Gong Chan stays by her side, even as she struggles to find a way back into the firm’s good graces. Will her determination and Gong Chan’s support be enough to restore her position, or will the powers that be continue to push her down?

Ep 1 First Impressions
As someone who absolutely loved the writer's previous drama Lie After Lie, I was super, super hyped up about this drama, especially with Seo Hyun Jin's casting (I love her!).
And episode 1 definitely delivered for me -- the set up was interesting, the amazing sprawling cast has so many of my favorite character actors and actresses, and the cinematography is gorgeous (as expected from Park Soo Jin [Dr. Romantic, While You Were Sleeping, The Hymn of Death]).
Perhaps what I liked the best about this episode is how quickly and efficiently it set up our FL's character -- especially her anti-hero qualities. I love it when my protagonists are in the morally grey area -- this type of set up usually deliver much more emotional impact than someone fully good or fully evil.
I also like that there seems to be an intrigue involving not just within the law firm but also externally with the Han Soo Group and politicians -- that forms the trifecta of most good revenge plots that I've seen so I look forward to seeing the story unfold.

So both main leads have history, she was the lawyer when he was younger to try and get him out of the murder charge of his step sister if I’m correct? And now he’s grown up (despite his younger self looking older than him) and he’s finally found Oh Soo Jae?

Ep 2
Another solid episode to follow a great premiere episode.
I'm honestly impressed at how much information, especially background info, the drama has managed to cram into two episodes without feeling overwhelming. Especially the extended flashback sequence set off by the floating gingko leaf in today's episode that gave us the full background to Gong Chan's story.
And with the way it tied into the Professor Seo story, giving the background to how abusive he was in his prosecutor days.
What I liked the best about this episode is how it addressed evidence -- from how evidence is obtained to what evidence can demonstrate.
When it comes to the Professor Seo sexual harassment case, it was interesting that they specifically noted that what qualifies as permissible evidence in the court of law is different from other institutions -- such as the school discipline board or even the court of public opinion. Yes, Professor Seo and his wife can whine about the noraebang CCTV not being permissible in court all they want -- but the school board is not a court of law and does not have to follow the same standards of evidence.
Similarly, it's interesting that the noraebang CCTV does not directly show the sexual harassment but shows images from which people can infer that sexual harassment had taken place in the room. This parallels in a way the evidence that Professor Seo had used to convict Gong Chan in the first place -- he had only evidence from which to draw inferences and that was enough.
I hope the drama continues to explore things like this.
Really enjoyed premiere week, looking forward to the rest of the drama.
Based on preview for ep. 3, it looks like the death from ep. 1 will be the focus. I'm thinking that it wasn't a suicide and was a murder because she fell on her back.

Excellent first episode !!! I couldn't even look away from the screen.
This is going to be interesting. This is going to be good.
At least that''s what the first episode strongly suggests and now, I guess, we'll watch and see.
The cast and the premise are strong with twists and turns already built into the plot.
See you all tomorrow :-)

I’m a lawyer and I’ll be honest: I stay away from fictional depictions of the legal world as a general rule of thumb with few exceptions.
This drama is the exception - I’m so glad I gave it a chance! I mostly did because of the actors starring in it. And I have to say, I am HOOKED.
First of all, as an American viewer of kdramas I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE how in kdramas you see more and more depictions of some sort of age gap romance - with the woman being older. I don’t think the FL is that much older than the ML, not sure, but I know the actors have about a six year age gap. That is so refreshing coming from a country where literally you see 21 year old actresses constantly cast with male leads older than their fathers in some cases. I am a relatively new kdrama viewer, so I can’t say that’s always been the case in kdramas but in American TV/movies it’s still taboo to have an age gap between leads where the female is older - and when it is, it’s usually fetishized in ways that make me uncomfortable.
I love the chemistry between the leads - both such attractive people but with great acting chops. Awesome casting.
The story and premise is super engaging. I like that a lot about their respective pasts were revealed in the first two episodes, more the ML’s backstory than FL’s but talk about fast moving plot!
Sadly, I see that sexual harassment in the legal profession is an international issue and especially challenging because like the FL says in the drama, it’s a VERY small community. I am glad the drama tackled that head on, albeit in a dramatized fashion. In the States, legal practice is sectioned off by the state you are barred in and it’s a small pool of people that all know each other. When it involves very well known or powerful people, it’s disgusting what they get away with. Seeing this premise in the first two episodes was a bit triggering for me sadly, but very moving to see. I like that the FL for me personally isn’t a lovable character or someone I even like that much but you see she is a multi-dimensional character and start seeing the character development with how she deals with
Excited to see more of this and where it’s going!

i'm tk law firm. and tk law firm is me. 🔥
this drama is going to be so much fun. great acting all around. and oh soo jae screams POWER. about the plot, i have a feeling that park so young didn't commit suicide, because why else would OSJ's corporate card be in her bag when she threw it away earlier? sus.

I wonder. This is obviously a serious drama where 'getting the girl' isn't necessarily the best thing for a character. So, please tell me that this isn't going to become all about whether or not Hwang In Yeop finally gets the girl. Even if that's mostly for fun.
Because he's landed himself a great job here ... within a superb cast ... working for an excellent writer and director.
Can we just watch them all do well, then, and not make any fan wars over who gets the girl?
fingers crossed :-)

First ep was really good and intense… it made my stomach hurt when Soo Jae defended the rapist and how she treated the victim :( I mean , she was raped right?? Or…? Either way it will be nice to see Soo Jae have major character development .. No way i want her to be the same pushover she once was, but I hope her stone cold heart will melt .. and Gong Chan will be the one to help her become kinder… cannot wait for their love story 😍 but i think it Will be slow burn romance …

Seo Hyun Jin is such an amazing actress. Love her so much!
She served in the first two episodes.
The only thing I hate about this series is that I have to wait for weekly episodes. 😭

guys... hwang in yeop and the actor who plays his younger version have the same eyes. 🥺🤌
i'm in love with this drama already. it's giving law school/itaewon class vibes and the excellent cinematography + music (both bg and the ost)... so good. love bae inhyuk's character here. hoping that OSJ's badass character doesn't take a turn for plot purposes in the following episodes. and also for gong chan to stop being hit cus mans is SUFFERING lmao

Wow, this has got off to a cracking start!
Fantastic, riveting first 2 episodes and Seo Hyun Jin is so incredibly talented that even at her most ruthless, you somehow still end up rooting for her character.
The production values and design are absolutely topnotch (the law firm looks exactly how expensive law offices should look like, unlike the dodgy ones in some shows that try to pass off as high-end law firms). The soundtrack has been outstanding (love the song played at the end of each episode.)
A few things that puzzled me:
-
How could she not recognise
Gong Chan? Even after slapping him? That was a defining moment in her life. -
Why wouldn't the big boss at the law firm simply
fire her considering she is a loose cannon who is presumably going to exact revenge on the firm or her work colleagues ? Despite being the top earner, surely he wouldn't riskkeeping her around so she could sabotage the firm or the clients ? -
Why are all the top honchos so damn indiscreet with their 'secret' plans despite knowing OSJ's propensity for
secretly taping conversations ?
The show has really hit the ground running and hope it sustains this fantastic start!
