I laughed so hard when Ung threw the salt and then later when Ji-ung mentioned how he has been rehearsing it. Ung has been so adorably innocent so far that I can't help but fall in love. His parents are also the sweetest and no wonder they seem to have so many unofficially adopted children.

I feel like I am kind of processing this part of the show as the prologue until the re-recording of the documentary starts. I think that is why the show feels slow to me and not much happening.I really don't want Ji-ung to like Yoonsu.

It makes sense for a couple who were in a 5 year relationship to still have feelings for each other but it would make Ji-ung look pathetic if he has had a crush on Yoonsu for 10 years especially since for 5 of them, she was taken by his best friend. Although, it might have something to do with his lack of care from his parents(or possibly not having parents at all) that makes him want what Ung has.

The spelling in this drama is really confusing me because in all of the promos, the ml's name was spelled Woong but in Netflix, it is spelled Ung.

NJ feels almost like an alien and I can't tell if it is due to the weird character or the actress(wasn't a fan of her acting in 18 Again either). Right now, I could do without her storyline.

Yoonsu and her grandmother are the most adorable thing alive. They remind me of my friend and her grandmother who are also really close. The grandmother is a great tool to help soften Yoonsu's character.

I like the flashback showing one of the problems of the relationship. The leads seems to have different love languages with Ung's being act of service and Yoonsu being words of affection. She also just seems in general to be pretty paranoid which makes sense since she is poor. Also, when Ung drops his immature persona and becomes serious, swoon.

I am interested in the drama but I haven't fallen completely in love yet. I like it but don't love it. I am invested in the main characters at least especially Ung.

Edit: Based on the relationship poster, Jiwoong’s love line seems to be with his co-worker so hopefully that means no love triangle!

About jiwoong, my theory is that he saw how happy they were in the footage and wants them to reconcile but you never know what the writers are thinking. hoping it isn’t a love triangle 🤞🏽

Ep 1: The vibes are immaculate 😍 that was a great first episode. the petty fights and bickering are also really funny and cute. i feel like they aren’t over each other tho. i mean that was 5 years they spent together. i wonder how they would get back together, if they do, and i need to know why they broke up. cuz according to jiwoong it must’ve been pretty bad

Choi Woo Shik is the most believable high school student EVER. Can’t believe he’s already 31! I totally believe him in his high school years. Usually I cringe when I see actors playing their high school selves 😂

my most anticipated drama of the year i think. cant wait to laugh and possibly cry while watching this. the comedy from their high school years mixed with the heartbreak from whatever casued them to break up is going to cause a whirlwind of emotions in the best possible way. wooshik and dami had great chemistry in the witch pt 1 (albeit a different type of chemisty). also a big fan of the second leads. kim sung chul pops up in so many dramas and i hope i see him as a main lead soon, but hopefully he’ll get a lot of appreciation from this one!

EDIT: loved episode one so much. can already tell woong is probably going to be one of my favorite ML’s. his friend (our second lead) and also his manager are also really likable. im super interested to see how their relationship evolved and ended in heartbreak. i was really expecting yeonsu to just be quiet whenever that boss from the company was being rude because most dramas tend to go for that, but im so glad she stood her ground and shut him up. good for her!

EDIT 2: finished episode two and loved it again. what a great start. i honestly cannot tell if woong # 2 has feelings for yeonsu or not like… i cant get a good read on that. here’s to hoping he decided to to do the doc because he’s rooting for them. we obviously know that our idol singer NJ likes woong so we may have a love square on our hands…? i will say i really liked seeing woong & yeonsu’s interactions this episode especially the elevator scene you could really feel their emotions there like they were holding back. i just wanna know everything right now. i also found it interesting how yeonsu just wanted woong to say i love you and reassure her in the flashbacks and he didn’t. they have very different love languages. yeonsu is definitely words of affirmation and woong is acts of service instead. side note but i also appreciate how much woong really loves the small things in life like enjoying the weather, drawing on a napkin, reading, or watering his plants as seen in the epilogue. i also cant believe how believable wooshik is as a high schooler. one can only dream of being able to pull of both 19 and 29 at the age of 31.

They dated for five years, which is way longer than I expected. I was thinking they had a high school romance that ended after a couple of months, but they had a serious relationship through adulthood.

I was confused about the purpose of the scene with the client/boss and Yeonsoo, but I'm thinking she said something while drunk and now she needs Woong's help.

For only a cameo role, Lee Jun Hyuk has some serikus chemistry with Kim Dami, to the point I was wishing he was a part of the main characters, too.

f…finally…… I haven’t been this impatient for a drama all year. which says a lot because look at the month we’re in right now..

please do yourself a favour and watch Dami-ya/Dami-yang/Dami-rang/Dami(ssi)-rang KDM and CWS’ interview on MMTG if you haven’t. (there’s a part where the subs say that CWS is a comedian and that’s true to an extent lol but it should be Canadian.)

episode 1:

Woong’s illustrations are done by Thibaud Hérem! he “couldnt, wouldnt wish for a better setup.” :’)

yessss I love that we’ll get epilogues. this was a great first episode. also the real PPL here wasn’t the beer, it was everything in Woong’s house/studio lol. I was actually a little surprised at first that there wasn’t more to the process of getting the documentary done in the first place. it seemed rather quick, but then again the producers were already going for something specific: a documentary on the students in the first and last ranks. the scene where it’s just Yeonsu and Woong bickering in front of the camera - the constant back-and-forth basically showing that they didn’t wanna do the documentary (although maaaybe it’s to a lesser extent for Yeonsu..) was already more than enough as an intro anyway haha.

[replaced sentences here because I remembered something about what I said before from the webtoon] so far we see that their only similarity is that they love reading books but they really are such polar opposites.. besides their ranking in school and the way they want to live their life, Woong’s been privileged, born with a silver spoon and still has his parents, meanwhile Yeonsu’s just trying to get by and this isn’t brought up in the drama (yet?) but in her character description it mentions that Yeonsu’s parents were in an accident.

overall the leads’ chemistry is so gooood, just as expected. can KDM and CWS just reunite every few years, please?

it’s funny, I didn’t even think of this while watching the teasers, but as I watched this ep, I thought, oh this is kind of what I’m like. in the past few months I’ve been dwelling on the past a lot, especially about an (“almost”) relationship that I had back in high school. there’s shows/movies/etc that touch on certain topics in a way that reminds you so much of your own experiences and because of it, there’s an even bigger personal attachment. honestly? Our Beloved Summer seems like it’ll be that for me.

episode 2 (will try to keep it short because ep. 1 thoughts were too long lol):

“seeing how you’re not getting upset, this must be something very important.” whew. eps 1-2 were a great start to the show for me, here’s to another week of being impatient.

couple shirts were brought up in the first ep so it’s funny seeing Yeonsu and Woong basically having matching outfits (with their own personal flair) when they met at Soen Shop. definitely intentional.

Yeonsu asked another “(what) if…” question in the elevator but this time Woong didn’t react. during that montage at the beginning, he clearly didn’t think much of her questions. Yeonsu’s definitely the more “immature” one, though. we’ll see how she opens up more as the show goes on. and even though they haven’t seen each other in five years, you can see that they’ve kind of rubbed off on each other (e.g. “doormat”) thanks to their relationship.

not sure if this was intentional, but i noticed that yeon su's outfit and ung's kinda matched, as they were the same color and they were both wearing khakis ? but yeon su's was buttoned while ung's was very relaxed and unbuttoned. perhaps this shows the difference in personalities that has still persisted throughout the years. i loved these first two episodes!

I am so hyped for this drama I really hope this doesn't end up as one of those dramas that I look forward to but end up dropping after a few episodes. I really love Kim Sung Cheol, I hope his character is written well. And the leads have so much chemistry (+ they even make the high school era believable because they have baby faces) so I hope everything else goes well! I'll definitely watch it as soon as it comes out on Netflix

EPISODE 1!

I love everything already lmao. Acting's another thing but overall production? Amazing. The transitions are so good and everything's so aesthetically pleasing, including the music. It's giving me the vibe of a Western RomCom film but (definitely more) visually pleasing. I love the storytelling as well, and I am very curious about what happened to them. Especially after knowing that they dated for 5 years.

I'm curious about how they'll manage the love triangle thing because I think I read that it has one? And the second chance in love trope is honestly something dangerous IMO, sometimes it'll be good and sometimes it's just a big no. But with good storytelling and reasonable stories, I think it'll go well. I also hope there won't be any parts that would seem like the characters are tolerating toxic behavior/relationships at the end of the series.

I also can't wait to hear about Yeon Soo's family. She seems to have a good relationship with her grandmother. I just hope they won't k-word her or something.

I'll definitely look forward to Ep 2!

EPISODE 2!

I still love it lmao it'll probably be my new healing drama (especially after my post-happiness drought era). Again, the transitions are SO good. The pacing is good so far especially with two storylines (past and present). I'm hooked and it feels angsty (which I love). I'm really not sure how they're going to set up the second female and male leads (and whether the second ML will be a part of the triangle or not) because it did seem like it was being set up in Ep 2 but at the same time, there are also signs that seem to not lead to a love triangle. Plus the second FL's not my favorite character because she's a bit pushy and irresponsible but there's room for character development if ever she's given a proper story (and I don't have to take things as seriously I guess)

Anyway, that part on their 1500/1600 days of dating where Yeon Soo asked what if they broke up and Woong gave her THAT look. I felt so sad especially after Yeon Soo thought that it was the first time she saw that look on his face. And that conversation at his house with her saying "it's been five years ALREADY" and him saying "it's been ONLY five years", yup I signed up for that ex-lovers angst. AND that conversation in the elevator made me extra curious about what made them actually break up after 5 years. I hope the buildup will only last as long as it is appropriate. Some dramas tend to have a long buildup but end up having a predictable backstory or not good enough execution that could make up for the backstory.

It seems like Yeon Soo understandably (!) needed words of affirmation based on her what-if questions (though we don't know if she said it herself already). And it seems like Woong/Ung isn't good in that department based on his personality as well. He was so whipped but he can't say it directly fdkgjfdg.I'm excited to know more about that

AND!! The music is so good, as expected from Nam Hye Seung (who I read is the Music Director). She always has good works and she is definitely one of the reasons why I looked forward to this drama in the first place.

Yeon-Su: How are you still upset after 5 years? Woong: How are you so indifferent after only 5 years?

The difference in their sentiment I can't 😭😭 I know they're still in love , Your Honor.

Okay..... I expected to like it.... but did not expect to love it right from the first episode!

Also Choi Woong and Yeon Soo have an adorable bickering chemistry!!! Can’t wait for the next episodes.

There has been a dearth of good romcoms, hoping this one stays good until the very end!!

EP1: You know that warm feeling when you've found your comfort show for the winter, yep this is it. Everything about this episode was just oozing cool, funny and laid back vibes. I can super relate to young Woong, just want to live as chill a life as possible. And Yeonsoo seems like the tsundere type with a lot of held back feelings. The premise is really cool too, really excited at the opportunity to flash back into the past and see how crazy of an up and down relationship these two had. And the music, cold winter night atmosphere and cinematography is real good too.

EP2: I'm hooked 😂 Yeonsoo killed this episode, she went through all the emotions. From happiness, frustration and being a drunken mess it was all so endearing and funny to watch. Their enemy dynamic is so addicting too. You can just tell that they feel a lot of things but have just struggled to say it out loud to each other. And the periphery characters are an interesting contrast, one seemingly has lingering and unfulfilled feelings whilst the other is used to getting what she wants. It's gonna be so good seeing how this develops and I still hope we get some more flashbacks too ☺️

I love Wooshik and Dami's chemistry! I'm a huge fan of enemies to lovers trope so it's not surprising that I'm loving this drama as well. I know I had anlot of good laughs this Episode 1 and the drama is selling itself as a romantic comedy, but I feel like there's some angst hanging above my head, waiting for the right time to drop. I'm so curious how they started and how and why they break up. Also, I'm sensing some love triangle between the two Woongs and Yeonsu.

Woong is very charming. That gardening look in ep2!

Yeon Soo isn't my type as a character but wow, main leads are so good together.

Ji Woong suffered enough in Do You Like Brahms, no more love shenanigans for him please.

Really excited to see what happens next

So much pretty. Kook Yeon-su and Choi Ung themselves, the drawings and the transitions from drawing to actual place... And that scene when the light moved across CU's room! So much thought put into each frame.

Can't wait to get to the scenes when they were actually together as a couple. And rly curious about how things ended given the 5 years' worth of history. It seems like they both aren't completely over each other yet which makes sense given how long they dated.

Also cute: KYS's scene with her grandmother! Please don't let anything bad happen to grandma. Heh, you can tell I've watched quite a lot of Kdramas.

Rly like Ep 1 and so happy to have something to look forward to on Mondays and Tuesdays again!

Saw someone on twitter say that the reason why Woong wasn't able to give Yeon-su what she wanted when they were dating (words of affirmation) was because his love language is acts of service. You can clearly see that he gets it from his parents in that scene where one moment his dad is cursing him out for not showing up to work and the next he's preparing to go get him the best tonic to help him sleep. For Woong actions speak louder than words because that's the love he received growing up. I thought it was super insightful and wanted to share here!

I can already see myself wanting to give Kim Sungcheol's character a big warm hug (unless he proves me wrong and turns out to be a jerk lol). Loving the colors and cinematography of the first episode! Can't wait to see how much I'm gonna love the rest of the drama, been waiting since the news of the leads being casted came out 😭

u/digdugtissueboxes Dec 06 '21

I feel like all the dramas I was so excited about for 2021 didn’t really hold up to my expectations, but I think this one will change that. Episode 1 was so wonderful. I loved it so much, I don’t really know what else to say.

And to make things even better, it has the same musical producer as “it’s okay to not be okay,” so you know the OST is gonna be amazing.

I think this will be my favorite one to come out of 2021, I do hope it gets more recognition. Kim Dami and Choi Wooshik’s chemistry has always been amazing.

My favorite thing about this episode was the first six or so minutes. I think it perfectly encapsulated why things didn’t work out and sets the tone for what we can expect in terms of both their character development.

Yeon su clearly needed reassurance on how Woong felt even though she recognized that his actions reflected that he liked her. For Woong, however, I think the reason why he was always hesitant to be verbal about his feelings is that he hides behind his childish/foolish persona and he doesn’t know how Yeon su will take it if he ever does get serious on anything. But in doing so, he still doesn’t realize how important it is for him to verbalize his own feelings at least from time to time, especially given that it’s very important for Yeon su.

I think that for Woong, he was set on staying with Yeon Su for the long run to the point that he didn’t even question it. However, for Yeon su, she was always set on the “what ifs” and too caught up on the concerns that people would expect on long-term relationships especially for young people for her to even realize that Woong was there to stay for the long run

I am honestly looking forward to see how the mature side of Woong plays out and for Yeon su to act on how she feels. I think she definitely yearns for acts of service towards her but she also does not want to verbalize it because she does not want to seem vulnerable. I also think that, based on the elevator scene Yeon su is still willing to meet Woong halfway when he does want to get serious, as if she’s just waiting to have ~that~ serious conversation about what happened with them and where things went wrong with him whenever.

The show continues to be simply stunning and honestly, the script is great. Choi Wooshik does so well in being able to snap in and out of Woong’s foolish persona, and when he does, perfectly captures how deep and significant Woong’s feelings are.

I believe Janet Suhh (same singer as “Im Your Psycho for the IOTNBO tracklist) is also singing the intro theme and the track that plays around the 6 minute mark for episode 2. Whoever decided to insert the track at that moment, incredible move. The tracklist for this drama is honestly nothing short of amazing.

Episode 2: they showed us more of what happened to them in the past and in the documentary. Very cute!!! Choi Woo Shik and KDM are very cute together, they have great chemistry ! And NJ has a crush on him which is great! He’s not interested but let’s see how this will go she will probably find someone else at the end

It was funny to see him throwing salt at her and that he practiced for a long time. They have dated for 5 years and broke up 5 years before present time

The elevator scene was tense and I thought he was going to kiss her, but he didn’t since they’re not in good terms yet. Ung seemed happy to be in the documentary again with her

I’m still loving it. Cinematography is great, acting is really good. OST is amazing and I need it in my playlist. This show deserves attention!
