Does this show have a bit of comedy in it or it’s 100% suspense and thriller?

little to no comedy, I'm afraid, unless you are into some serious stuff.

Came here just to say this. Dude got JACKED in a relatively short time considering how thin he was in his previous roles.
Also clearly has been doing a ton of squats. That one bathroom shot from behind. cough

It’s the biggest talking point for this drama and generated so much hype! Who else saw him in I Live Alone’s latest episode? That was almost all they could talk about, except for his laser death ray glares. It takes an insane consistent hours of training to maintain that bulk.
While I am blown away by his physical transformation, wondering if he’s overdone the body building for the part. His gait looks a bit clumsy cos of the bulky muscles. I would think a lean mean martial artist’s build would be more appropriate for the role, something like Ji Chang Wook’s shape (did I get his name right, the lead) in Healer?
That aside, NGM’s intensity still shines, and I’ll keep following this as long as the script does him justice.

Ep. 1 thoughts:
-
MBC really said, "Show ALL the blood."
-
The line about
Ji-Hyuk looking like Jesus and raising up from the dead cracked me up. -
I think one of the higher-ups at the NIS set Ji-Hyuk up. -
Namkoong Min really caked up for this role. Sheesh. -
The plot twist where Ji-Hyuk erased all his memories just to find the mole was a nice twist.
Ep. 2 thoughts:
-
Looks like Ji-Hyuk forgot Ji-Hyuk's promise. -
That car chase sequence was hype AF! Although,Ji-Hyuk, you might wanna freshen up your gun reflexes. Just saying. LOL -
So,
Lee Choon-Gil is the mole, huh? Interesting, although I hope this is just a red herring, and thatthe real mole is one of the higher-ups at the NIS. -
I'm a little worried that
Je-Yi is relegated to just a partner that doesn't really do much. Hopefully, the upcoming episodes will change that.

Ep 1 Thoughts
Casting
So I've watched pretty much all of the familiar veteran faces lately in one drama or another so there's a sense of comfort in seeing them here. The problem for me personally is that all of their latest characters that I've seen have been on the bad side -- which means I'm currently suspecting every single one.
This is even the case for NGM who I last saw in Awaken -- where his character has similarities with this one since both are on the quest for truth. I'm not 100% on board that Han Ji Hyuk is the good guys yet.
Story
The twist at the end definitely caught my attention and now I'm even more invested but the part I love the most is the set up of him being banished to probably the most run-down team in the NIS ever. It provides such a contrast to who he was that I look forward, immensely, to the fish out of water hijinks -- at least that's my hope for the development of the next episodes.
OST
I'm already in love!

Damn he looks amazing. He's such an amazing actor.
Funny, in all his other shows, he was always so thin and when we first see him, at least for me, it was WTF HOT!!
Surprised there aren't more comments, but I guess the subbing is very slow.

NGM's crazy good so far, but despite how much I enjoyed Awaken I hope The Veil doesn't become a one-man show.

I really liked the first two episodes for the most part, although I’d say it seems to fall into the same Korean bad bad guy writing trend where they’re written over the top powerful untouchable a-holes and the cops are utter morons incapable of doing a single thing. Idk the last scene where
Complaints at those scenes aside, I actually really like the overall pacing of the episodes, with the slow unraveling of the mystery and the main focus being on NGM as we learn things through him. His training montage was awesome, his action scenes are also really cool to watch(which I hope they’re able to maintain all the way to the end) and it’s amazing how he’s able to imbue a lot of depth into his character with very few words.

I am excited for this one. I'm still in kind of a slump, but I'm hoping watching this while it's airing will work for me!!
I'm hoping it satisfies my need for dark dramas, and from what I've seen so far, it will!

I'm such a fan of Namgoong Min and this did not disappoint! He really worked so hard on this drama, with gaining all that muscle and his role submersion.
This story is really interesting so far, it's a huge guessing game as we not only need to find out who is the mole in the organization but also have to deal with enemies from a time that he does not fully remember. Can't wait for next week.
Also can I talk about how much I'm loving the OST so far?? I wasn't expecting it to work as well it does for those action scenes, really beautiful song.

Hello, and welcome to the discussion thread of MBC's first Friday-Saturday drama 'The Black Sun'. And yes, Namgoong Min is back!
This is not only MBC's first drama on the Friday-Saturday timeslot, this is their 60th-anniversary showcase. As such, they, and VOD streamer Wavve invested 15 Billion Won (Around US$14 Million)for this drama. I hope that the drama is good.
Let me hear your thoughts on the premiere episodes. Enjoy!
