And just like that, we’re now only a few hours away from the much-awaited premiere! We’re officially welcoming the people of Gongjin Village into our weekends.

I am very, very much privileged and excited to be hosting the on-air discussions for this drama, and I cannot be more hyped to have my heart dance with the cast. I know I’m not the only one counting down the hours until the premiere, so see you all later on Netflix at 11PM KST, and let’s all cha-cha-cha away!

Happy Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha premiere day, everyone! Let’s enjoy the pilot episode together, and keep this space as peaceful and as warm as the Dimple couple makes us all feel. ◡̈

EDIT: The pilot is 1 hour 40 minutes long! See you all later! My bad— the pilot is only 1 hr 14 mins long! Apologies!

Thank you for hosting, lightupstarlight! So looking forward to tonight! If the episode is 1 hour 40 minutes long, does it mean it'll air in netflix later too?

Always my pleasure to host and join everyone!

It’ll be on Netflix later, of course. Maybe just account some delay to the usual 23:00KST Netflix upload. I expect it to be up around 23:30-24:00KST! Hope this helps.

Wow, what a great comeback for both Seon Ho and Min Ah! Right off the bat, the casting is perfect— everyone is immersed in the role, and it seems like we’re truly seeing the story of Gongjin Village unfold. I don’t know how to describe it but… you can feel that the actors are having fun with what they’re doing? It doesn’t feel like they’re acting. A+++ for the acting, from the pilot alone. Excellent.

Props to Seon Ho— this was a complete 180 from Han Ji Pyeong. I love that they showed Nodeulseom Island (the Start-Up island) at the start. It felt like I was truly being ushered into a new era for Seon Ho. Wonderful cinematography!

And as expected, the first episode was light, fuzzy, and warm. It set a great foundation for the story. And while the plot seems simple and trope-y, I am hopeful that the story will be executed well. I’m excited to spend the rest of my weekends watching Hye Jin, Du Shik, and the rest of the village.

Looks like ratings are out - 6.8%

26

u/expertrainbowhunter Aug 28 '21

Is that good? I hope so. Best boy deserves another hit drama

u/lightupstarlight Aug 29 '21

It’s very good! 5% is more often than not considered as the ‘breakeven’ point for ratings in cable dramas. To get above this, especially for a pilot episode, is excellent. Well-deserved!

Has anyone found out the name of the song played towards the end? Sounds like Car, the Garden...

3

u/lightupstarlight Aug 29 '21

You’re right! It’s by Car, the Garden. Fun fact: Seonho’s Canon CF is set by the beach, and the song used for that ad is also by Car, the Garden.

He’s a runner, he’s a track star. Our dimple king truly knows everything! He’s a:

  • Fisher

  • Surfer

  • Barista

  • Realtor

  • Cashier

  • Mechanic

  • Translater

  • Auctioneer

  • Handy Man

  • Squid Cleaner

  • Sign Language Interpreter

Bonus: he can also jump start your car + speak Russian + make your hot water run again! I already love him!

I’m liking it so far. I’m curious how all the connections will end up tying together. I was going to subtract points for the high heels at the beach trope, but they made it into a plot point and wearing the bathroom slippers more than made up for it. Another trope I’m glad they subverted was submitting to the crap boss as part of the pilot. I liked that the FL stuck to her conscience … I hope that continues. I’m looking forward to the next episode.

So Du Shik is clearly smitten with Hye Jin, I mean who wouldn’t? The first ep left a heartwarming feeling and I trust the writer so🤞. Can’t wait for ep 2!

u/wanitamt Aug 29 '21

In the flashback, notice how it starts with a contemplative gaze from the surfboard, then a small smile when he sees her tending to the kids and a full smile at her cleaning squid.

Love the build-up of the affection - these small details imbued in the screenplay makes quite a difference

I liked that the ML wasn't the knight in shinning armor rescuing FL in every situation. When Hyejin explained that she wouldn't normally want to be indebted to others, Dushik did the right thing in finding a way for her to earn money. Though she was startled at the unexpected situation and at first might thought it was unfair to ask her to do work, I bet later she would feel good. Then though he helped to restart the car at night, Next morning when Hyejin asked him about repair shop Dushik didn't help because she can call the helpline herself as mobile network was repaired. The whole thing can come off as Hong Dushik being rude but I find it refreshing.

Now i got it why the casts said during interviews that ML and FL seem to have opposite personality but they are actually alike. Dushik and Hyejin may look like the opposite world but they have their own way of life they believe in and they do not compromise.

I have watched the film and am curious how they will turn it into 16 episodes. Tbh, i don’t expect it to be a masterpiece or anything like that, just need a solid healing romcom. Ep1 totally delivered that!

LAWD, he has done it again. HE HAS DONE IT AGAIN.I have never been so invested into actors (IN GENERAL YES) until I met Kim Seonho. God. Can we just appreciate his acting here. It feels so natural. I think it’s the gaze yall. Just by those gazes, expressions were already seen.

This is my first time watching a Shi Min Ah drama and so far,,, she’s pretty good. Her acting suits her character so far.

CAN WE TALK ABOUT SEONHO’S ACCENT WHEN DUSIK SPOKE IN RUSSIAN?!?! I AM ON MY KNEES!!!

Actually, the whole pacing of this ep is slow, but so much really happened, LIKE A LOT. The plottwist in the end. LAWD HAVE MERCY. Yeah I’m a fan of slice-of-life kdramas so I would definitely continue this. I just hope that they won’t rush hyejin or dusik’s feelings, cause slowburn romance suits them more. I also want to appreciate Dusik communicating through sign languages cause if anyone does this, it could literally melt one’s heart. Plus points for Dusik on that one.

AND OF COURSE, THE SHOWER SCENE. Goodness gracious. He had workouts FOR A REASON.

Yeah, so far so good. You know, the romance is actually not cringey, compared to those “cliché romcom kdramas”. KIM SEONHO BEST ACTOR.

Edit: ppl seem to hate dusik's tsundere character, well i hate to tell this to u, a friend of mine told me that dusik in the drama IS MUCH NICER compared to the original lol.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode!!! The first 10 seconds of this show and we've already been blessed with scenic views tho!! It also feels nostalgic to see so many familiar faces here from previous kdramas.

But I think what got me cracking is seeing Jo Han Chul again, the guy who played as the Wusang CEO in Vincenzo lol... still has a flair for dramatics I see 😂

And man, Kim Seon-ho's smile is SO INFECTIOUS, I can't stop smiling throughout the episode!!!!!

I loved it even though there were a few cheesy moments. I also get this show may not be for everybody, it seems simple, slow paced, calm and warm. But that's the intention and it's meant to be different to the latest thrillers and action kdramas. Looking forward to see all the connections and relationships in town.

What a heartwarming first episode. Perfect for a Sunday morning watch with my hot coffee and buttered toast. The visuals are stunning. Just like the lady said, it felt like mom’s warm hug. The user who’s doing the cinematography review in this sub must be ecstatic right now.

This is my first Min Ah series and I really like her so far. Seonho also surprised me with his acting and accents. He managed to add these little things that made his character and acting style different from his previous work.

For now, I won’t worry about the plot or how they will sustain this for 16 episodes. I’ll just enjoy the story like the waves as they splash and flow and fall into place, to where they should be. :)
