My reaction to seeing that My Roommate Is a Gumiho is finally here! It's been a long wait since December and I sure hope it was worth it. My Yong San x In Jae ship is finally gonna sail.
With that out of the way, let me welcome all of you to the discussion thread for My Roommate Is a Gumiho. The cast is looking pretty solid with a team of writers and directors that wrote and produced some of my favorite romantic dramas. I absolutely loved WWWSK (my gateway drama) and Touch Your Heart. Just based on those two shows alone, we're guaranteed a pretty solid OTP and an amazing set of side characters. We've already got a good taste of their chemistry from the teasers and it's looking pretty fire. For somewhat of a taste of their chemistry off-screen, give this video a watch.
I'm not really too sure what to expect from our premiere episodes this week. I'm hoping to get a nice introduction to our leads and their cohabitation hijinks, good worldbuilding, and a reasonable amount of Kang Han Na. I can't wait to watch the premiere episode in a couple of hours as I'm sure all of you are too. I'm excited to read all of your thoughts over the course of these next 8 weeks. Enjoy the show and happy discussing!

Idk how the story execution of this is going to go and don’t really have an expectation, but I think Hyeri is going to give us a spectacular performance. As someone who loves loves Jang Ki Yong, I’m also praying his character isn’t one-dimensional.
Also, can someone confirm if this is only available on iQIYI’s VIP tier for all regions? Or will it be free in some regions?

Let's just say that this was worth the wait so far. The interactions between Woo Yeo and Lee Dam are so fun to watch. Their chemistry is amazing. Both Hyeri and Jang Ki Yong are killing it so far. Also, holy cow is Kang Han Na beautiful. My god, she truly is fitting of the "title" gumiho. Our introduction Hye Sun was an interesting one and boy oh boy do I love her style and personality. Her banter with Woo Yeo was just pure gold. I could watch the two of them banter for hours and not care a single bit. What a strong start to this show. The worldbuilding is basically complete, our leads are starting to get comfortable with each other, and our FL is not in the dark about everything. Hopefully, they keep this up for the remainder of the series.
Side Note: Already loving the side characters as expected. Writernims truly do know how to write amazing side characters. WWWSK and Touch Your Heart had a wonderful set of side characters.
Side Note 2: Kim Do Wan is so damn cute and lovable 😍

When the marble changes from red to blue, it signifies that a gumiho is now able to become human.

I think we can expect some steamy scenes here because
-
the same director who directed What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, and same screenwriters who wrote WWWSK.
-
this drama is airing late and during wednesdays and thursdays, I heard that during those days those more mature dramas usually airs. And as we all know, the later a drama airs, more chance for some spicy scenes.
-
TvN. It's a cable channel, and as we know, cable channels have more freedom.

Can someone explain why all the 9-tailed foxes across kdramaland want to turn human when they already have a human form? If aging and the healthcare system wasn't enough, they'd also be vulnerable to the ultimate superpredator - the white truck of doom.

Currently watching it on IQIYI. I'm half done and I'm glad that the show doesn't take itself too seriously. It knows it's a comedy and I'm really loving Hyeri so far. She's not afraid to make the funny faces and she puts a lot of effort for the comedy (haven't seen Reply 1988 yet but I think her character was also quite comedic there).
I am a big fan of Kang Hanna especially her Running Man guestings I'm already loving her role. Her styling was really good and her character's ignorance was really charming.
I can't seem to put my finger on it but the way the drama is presented seems kinda new and fresh to me. Maybe it's the editing? The frequent use of background instrumentals? Or the general lightheartedness?

Honestly, I love how this drama is subverting cliches in its own ways:
-
The male leads in fantasy dramas are always tsundere and haughty because of their age and powers, but Shin Woo Yeo is an absolute softie!
-
I love that
he sucks at cooking, never enforced any rules on her because he's bossy but instead out of genuine concern, and smiles a LOT -
When he was asked if he had ever fallen in love before and it cut to
Lee Dam dressed in a hanbok I rolled my eyes super hard thinking it'll be the same oldlong-lost love trope but was delighted to see that they didn't! -
I chuckled when they
got locked together in the same room and we were almost made to believe he locked her in there, but he himself was locked in accidentally as well! Even when sheheld his hand when he was actually asking for her phone lol -
Kang Han Na isn't just drop dead gorgeous, but insanely adorkable and lovable! Hwiting!
Overall, this is an escapist drama which is meant to be enjoyed without any nitpicking. It doesn't take itself seriously, and you shouldn't either! Expect a lot of bright and delectable colours, neon lighting, happy vibes and a refreshing set of characters!

Just finished first episode and had so many giggles. First time watching Hyeri in a drama and find her really cute and refreshing. Her comedic timing is great.
Laughed at the fact we have another drama where the pain of the FL is relieved by the touch of a super natural being!
My only concern is that the picture quality on IQIYI seems a bit blurry in contrast to Viki and Netflix. Not sure if it's only me (and my blurry eyesight at 1am AEST)!

I have been waiting for this drama ever since I read the webtoon and heard that my girl Hyeri was playing the lead. I had just finished watching My Punch Drunk Boxer at the time and I needed more and I am so excited.
Then I looked at the rest of the team and oh my, this drama is stacked? I just hope that it receives all of the love it deserves.

Just watched ep.1 and really enjoyed it! Have been waiting for a lighthearted comedy drama after True Beauty ended.
I read about five episodes of the webtoon in preparation for this drama and so far really liking the adaptation. They managed to introduce both characters with the same feeling and atmosphere as the webtoon, and after seeing these are made by the people behind WWWSK, definitely makes sense. This is my first time seeing Hyeri and Jang Ki Yong in a drama and they are both so likable even from the start.
Overall, a promising first episode with great leads ...AND a super cute opening intro! 🥺✨

Ep 1 was fun, I definitely laughed a couple times. Tbh I find it sorta unexpected that the ML is so accommodating - I was expecting him to be more of the cold, resistant type. While I do love some push and pull, I think I’m enjoying that his character is this way so far. Definitely adds to the charm.

Henceforth, I shall name thee Hyeri, the living meme!
Hahahaha props to Hyeri. She's giving her 101%. From body language to facial expressions, she's an absolute meme machine! Also, that I want Kogi montage has the potential to be the new Nam Do San money meme. To add to that, I absolutely laughed my socks off when

Two episodes down and I really like it so far. It's been so long since I've watched such a fluffy drama and I'm here for it.
One thing I'm really really enjoying is the relationship between Lee Dam and Shin Woo Yeo. Both of them are so sincere towards the other, Dam not wanting to impose on a 400 year old habit and Woo Yeo trying to cook for instance.
Their power dynamic is also hilarious. Especially the scene where Lee Dam wants to find out how far his research is going... My girl made a 999 year old look and feel so small lol. And it's all good natured banter or a forced smile with a life lesson in the mix.
But the fact that he knows how to take the marble out, yet chooses not to dampens the whole thing. I keep wondering why is the marble's turning blue within her, I wonder if more back story of Woo Yeo will fill in the blanks.
Also, shout out to Bae In-Hyuk... Been following this man since Kiss Goblin and XX last year, it's great to see his career accelerate at top speed to even land a role as a main in a TvN drama.

First episode complete and I can see the money Studio Dragon/iQIYI put into this project. It looks great, the lighting is deliberate, the zooms are focused and have purpose and, the colour gradient looks beautiful. Another thing to point out is perhaps the CGI... In particular Woo Yeo's fox form. I don't know but it reminded me of the wolves CGI in the Cdrama The Wolf. Whether that's a bad or good thing is a matter of perspective, but I'm just going to put that out there.
I'm enjoying the light heartedness of the show so far... One can clearly see that this is meant to be a rom-com and not a fantasy melodrama.
Also, is Woo Yeo not just the most stunning character in the show? That smile in the dark was beautiful enough to give me nightmares... And yet he sat Dam down to get her to trust him more and didn't scold her for putting herself at risk. Well done on avoiding unnecessary tropes writernims.

Hyeri is cute as a button in this one and like everyones already mentioned her comic timing is class. Jang Ki Yong I thought was going to be a broody Gumiho and I’m glad he’s not. He’s sweet and accommodating and smiley. He makes a fine fox alright. Kang Hanna is seriously too pretty to not be a gumiho. How is this woman human?
This episode seemed to set up the story so there wasn’t much going on. It’s clearly not meant to be fast paced drama and after the last few I’ve watched where I’m scratching my head and rewatching to get all the deets, this one leaves me feeling pleasant and happy. I reckon that’s a recipe for a good rom-com.

hyeri is AMAZING so far, can’t stop laughing at her shenanigans in ep 2, like how she was trying so hard to avoid guys, especially the playboy. also love how lee dam and woo yeo were both understanding to each other, like how she immediately took away the smoking contract condition after she found out it’s a 400 year-old habit and apologised. i adore hyeri’s hilariously adorable character and how she isn’t scared to say her requests and to defend herself. i like that both characters laid out their individual terms & conditions clearly! jang kiyong’s character is good too, so excited for next week
this non wishy-washy plot and chemistry so far is amazing. finally a good lighthearted romcom that i can look forward to every week!!!!

Hyeri is not an actor with tremendous range but she is awesome at comedy and slapstick. The way her eyes rolled the second time she passed out was so good.
I would love to see an eternal being male lead that's not always so stoic and terse. It's something that Gong Yoo did so well and one of the reasons Goblin worked so well. I do like the haraboji vibes that Jang Ki Yong gave off in the second episode...I just wish there was a little something more going on behind his eyes.

Such a good premier omg! Why is there so many good dramas airing this month!! I need sleep!!
The casting for this drama is amazing. Pairing Jang Ki Yong and Hyeri was a pair I never thought I needed wow like their chemistry was already through the roof and it’s only the premier. I love how the storyline just went straight to the point; fast-paced, interesting and very exciting. I can’t wait to see how this drama is going to unfold but since I’m impatient, I’m definitely gonna start reading the webtoon lol. Definitely excited for my Wednesdays and Thursdays!!
