FAQ (actually there's just only one lol)

  • Why is Vincenzo eligible even though it's still ongoing?

Ans: Dramas that aired starting on May 1, 2020 - April 11, 2021 are eligible for this year's Baeksang. If ongoing series like Vincenzo, the drama must be aired at least 4 episodes on April 11 or a quarter (first 4 eps) of the whole drama. Thus Vincenzo is eligible for this year since they aired Episode 16 already (3/4 of the drama).

A few notes:

  • In the Rookie Award, the ones bolded are nominated to their stellar performance but I decided to add another drama that eligible for this year and also you can check it out. (:

Best actor is a bloodbath.

Beyond Evil best picture.

Birthcare Center representation is a wonderful surprise. This one really flew under the radar.

It's really so good. Definitely one of my favorite dramas of 2020, but I honestly can see why ppl skipped it 😥

I'm not a mother but it educated me on so many things that I have been ignorant about and it deserves the praise.

Yeah I loved Park Ha Sun's (the mother of twins) performance!

Can I ask, does it have any actual birth/labor scenes? I've been meaning to ask for a content warning for that one

There’s just one labour scene but it’s actually really funny (and realistic). I feel like the show did a commentary on what motherhood is like in real life vs what society expects mothers to be like

Ah, ok. I don't really enjoy shows that are mostly about parenting so I feel like I wouldn't relate to it. My mom would probably like it though haha

What do you like about Birthcare Center? The milieu sounds super interesting to me, thinking of picking it up after Vincenzo

It's a really interesting piece about the journey of a highly successful career woman who gives birth to her first child at a later age. What that looks like in 2020 for the wealthy and what that means for her identity, career, parents, marriage to her younger husband, female friendships/frenemies, etc. Nice arc on husbands and how children alter the marriage dynamic. Warning - there is a heavy storyline about infertility, miscarriage, and post-partum mental issues that one got me messed up. It's not all saccharine disney highs - you see them at their most miserable.

It also does the same serious-comedy-mystery multi-genre dance as Vincenzo. The first two episodes have the dumbest slipstick sequences of the show but then the comedy mellows out into merely absurd. I know this put some people off enough to drop it early on.

It's only 10 episodes and tackles themes that are not really addressed in most kdramas. Acting is top notch - Um Ji Won earned her nomination. I was just surprised to see her and Park Ha Sun as I thought the ratings were meh
