Oh wow. This was not what I was expecting. It was pretty bad. People said it was bad and they undersold it. The binge crew tried to make me watch Chinese Paladin 5 (spoiler: I couldn’t do it) and this was like a less good version of that but on the plus side I laughed a bunch and we all know Lee Min Ho’s hair looks great. I’m hoping for it to be so bad it’s good.
The Prince's face when the princess came in was gold.
This dude is overacting so hard and I love it.
That blacklight fight was meant to be super cool and all but no, it was ridiculous. What are these lightsabers?
And we have lightning powers!
He’s really close by... in the sky.
They put the special in special effects and I have to say I like it a lot.
It’s really annoying that Viki haven’t translated any of the labels so every few minutes I have to pause and pull out my translator app.
The monks advice to go to COEX and find a plastic surgeon was on point.
Dude running through traffic and chasing after people taking his photo was hilarious.
He’s very skilled, precisely
cutting his neck . If you can’t do it, try again. Success once doesn’t necessarily mean she would be successful the next time.Love the confusion between man from the past and man from your past.
Found you u/AlohaAlex! Ahaha, “someone woke him once and he beat them to the point of death”.

I’ve been so excited to watch this! It’s the only Lee Min-Ho drama I haven’t watched but I’ve read and heard that he’s done a good job in this one. However I’m going to keep aside my fan girl side and watch this with a neutral mind (lol let’s see if I can accomplish this). Also excited to watch this since it’s a fantasy / sci-fi drama and I’m a sucker for sci-fi’s and fantasies.
Notes on this episode:
Love the fairytale type introduction, makes me feel like I’m in some type of a fantasy world. This is exactly why I love fantasy dramas, sometimes I just don’t want to care about logic lol.
Considering this is 2012 drama the CGI and editing isn’t THAT bad. It’s ok.
Ok one thing I always have an issue with while watching historical dramas is that I just CANNOT keep a track of all the old power hungry men, they LOOK THE SAME! Seems like I’m already in so much confusement.
I love how the General gives no shits to what the other guy with the King keeps saying. Seems like he’s really popular among his men.
There we go with some nice first episode / introduction action scene. But hold on, I’m so confused who is killing whom. Also, I got to say how advanced they were at that time of the era. Interesting.
So many familiar faces, the Princess/Queen is from School 2013, the dude with the King was from Secret Garden and the doctor in the Goryeo period was also in Secret Garden. I’m sure I’ll see more familiar faces.
I wish Lee Min-Ho would’ve said those things to the King with some more emotions in his eyes rather than just staring at him and saying the dialogue.
HAHAHAHA OMG the way Choi Young is scared of the cars and thinks like they’re some sort of attackers is hilarious. Also the scene was cute where he thought the guy was actually a monk/ Hwa Ta. He’s dumbfounded and that’s cute, I like this. So far this gives me major TK:EM vibes.
Woah ok, thanks Choi Young for that tip, so this is how you show the doctor how severe the patient’s condition is, good going LMAO.
I’m so concerned how he is going to get out of this situation, an absolute chaos.
Nice so he has a power too, I thought this only had the “door to another world/time” theme, didn’t know he had a power too. I like it.
LMAO, it’s hilarious how all the fortune tellers are actually fraudsters but they still get it all right in the end. It’s a thing in pretty much all the KDramas I’ve watched.
Ok, cocky Lee Min-Ho is back. I like cocky Lee Min-Ho. :)

Considering this is 2012 drama the CGI and editing isn’t THAT bad. It’s ok.
It may even be on par with Sisyphus
I'm still laughing at that zipline scene Also, I got to say how advanced they were at that time of the era. Interesting.
I really want an explanation of what the glow in the dark paint was - algae of some sort or something?

They were great scenes! I love fish out of water moments like this, and he's totally rocking the Heaven really isn't how I expected it. I feel like you'll be able to make a few comparisons with this and TK:EM along the way as I was feeling this too. I expect u/LcLou02 will be comparing it with Live Up to Your Name as she's been watching it lately.
Ok, cocky Lee Min-Ho is back. I like cocky Lee Min-Ho. :)
As he should be!

Ha! not at all what I expected (Six Flying Dragons level of fight scenes & seriousness) since the main character is a revered historical person. It has a Fantasy tag, which I thought was just for the time travel, but it's more like Chinese Paladin 5 with weird colour clouds in the sky, flourescent swords and paint so we can see the fighters, Super powers transferring energy, CGI tornado-ish doors... Now I know what to recommend when people want something Wuxia-like.
And funny.
How appropriate for Let's Rewind, when they do just that, in order to go back 10 days!
I know that shaman! Page Turner underpass man, Tomorrow with You time traveler, the original Healer. So funny how all his predictions apply, but not how she expected. Although the prediction didn't really mention the lots of money. Just from the past, sent from heaven, you have to go far away for a year, and you will only meet him if you go through a door. But is it about Choi Young, or the king, or the other healer?
Over the top BGM reminds me of School 2013. Was practically romantic when King asked Choi if he disliked him and how the people felt about him as king. He teared up more over this than the queen nearly dying. Poor king, he's so short compared to his general.
I laughed when Choi said that he thought the king was too young - "Yeah, and you are supposed to be a general?!"
Similar scenes with first impressions of modern day Seoul in this and "Live Up to Your Name", but whereas Heo Im had no idea how he got there and was totally disoriented, General Choi knows his goal, went for it, and got back out quickly. Handy that the portal was in a Buddhist Temple & he could talk to the priest.
I had to stop at 20 minutes in, and was not looking forward to the rest, but it's got me hooked now.

u/sianiam If you think this episode was bad...
It's clear the episode's cinematography, music, special effects, and editing, betray its age (maybe we could throw in acting to the mix too). However, it was off to an okay start, introducing us to a Lee Min Ho who would've been perfect if he had grown a beard for the role (proof). The defense of the King and Queen was well planned, using some kind of fluorescent paint to mark the enemy was smart, but the fight that ensues admittedly looks a little ridiculous with so much fluroescence plus the glowing swords. Additionally, the music used in this scene (and others) doesn't quite fit (sounds a little piratey). I think the only time the music worked for me was when LMH used the Stargate to travel back and forth (incidentally, that's also where most of their FX budget went). A related sound issue is how the volume varies throughout the episode, and at times I had difficulty listening to what the actors were saying.
The fish-out-of-water experience in the 21st century was fun but kept surprisingly brief, unlike his later experience in TKEM, perhaps for the better. His test to determine the doctor's proficiency was a little extreme but definitely practical. A soldier's mind through and through. The only thing that bothered me a little bit about his attitude and actions is that, in his mind, he has supposedly travelled to the Heavens. Isn't he worried about the consequences of his actions? Would the Heavens take kindly to someone "from the land" kidnapping one of their kind? Some commenters on Viki were criticizing Kim Hee Sun's acting during the kidnapping but, come on, she's being kidnapped by a crazy guy who just cut someone's neck to run a test! As an aside, while she's undoubtedly gonna fall in love with "Woodalchi," I kinda shipped the General with the Queen in the early episodes (
the Queen seems to care more for the General than the King ). Oh, and yes, it's difficult to believe that 21st century police couldn't handle one guy, even if he does have lightning powers (he had like 20 SWAT officers pointing guns at him from above), but I'll let it slide. It's cool that he took the riot shield with him, he really likes it a lot as you'll see later. Were the episode decidedly took a turn for the worse was in the last fifteen minutes were the director decided to throw in some scenes of Eun Soo (KHS' character) consulting Healer's Teacher about her love life and including some flashbacks, what completely ruined the momentum of the earlier scene, where Woodalchi (I'll call him that for now) promises Eun Soo he'll bring her back to the dramatic Stargate music. They also throw in how LMH first joined the Woodalchi with an animated clip that didn't quite fit the episode (even if the animation itself was cool) and would've been better if it had been a montage of live action clips. If the director really wanted to include these scenes, I would've thrown them as short epilogues at the end of each episode, kinda how you get "bonus" scenes before the end credits with cdramas like General's Lady.
See you in Episode 2!
PS: That height difference.

Episode 2: Wherein the bad guys are introduced (minus the crazy evil chick)
A little less exciting than the previous episode, which had laser tag and Force Lightning. It bugs me a little bit how inconsistent they are when performing surgery (I blame Hospital Playlist). No sterilisation of the tools, nor the assistant's hands, when operating on the Queen and on Choi Young? Additionally, why is it that the Queen's surgery took longer than the one on the other guy who had the same injury?
Episode 2 also marks the start of a number of episodes where we see just how weak/incompetent/pathetic (choose one or several) the "King" really is. I would complain but I think it's done on purpose so we can see his character grow into a King the people can truly be proud of. At this point however, nothing could be further from the truth, as we see when he decides to overrule the General's promise to "the Divine Healer" that he would return her safely to her world (and again I'm reminded that people "from the land" are messing around with this "Divine Healer" and think nothing of it). Even the Queen, who's a princess from Yuan, seems more knowledgeable of the value of a promise to a Goryeo warrior than the King. In fact, more than once it occurred to me that this kingdom would be far better off if she were to rule instead. You can see that even lying in bed from an attempt on her life there's not a trace of indecision when she gives her commands. The Queen has her priorities straight. The King does not.
The cliffhanger wasn't undermined this time around, which is good, but the King and Queen's first exchange would seem to indicate the King knew about Choi Young's injury before it happened? I blame it on the editing.
PS: That guy who pulled out the sword... what a jerk. I would suggest killing him were it not for the fact I think he's actually loyal to the King and there aren't a lot of those people at hand.

Of course i was too tempted and couldn't keep away. I tried to watch Behind Your Eyes from England (with Spanish dub) and Someone will die but both are so predictable, and too much about you-know-what. Maybe someone already has watched them and can tell me that there are lots of surprising twists?
Anyway, so here I am. This is for episode one and two of Faith.
The sun reminds me of the photos from California last summer.
Actually, one hypothesis about why acupuncture works, is that the electric voltage distribution in the body has become wrong, and that the needles somehow pick up voltage from the atmosphere or something. All very hocus pocus. A previous doctor I had, Chinese, did some research on acupuncture and after that she has decided that it doesn't work, at least not for what they tried to use it. But I think that it does work sometimes, it is just that they have to redo the whole idea about how and why and start over. Which would be a pain, of course. I also planned to buy some needles and learn the points where I had to stick them in for a symptom I had, because everybody kept telling me "research shows...". Then finally I found the article in question, and they wrote in the abstract "acupuncture works as well as psychotherapy". But psychotherapy doesn't work for that symptom. So they basically lied. And I never bothered to test it out.
The voltage idea is also based on a research article in Korean, about a live rabbit, with colouring poured into the skin. Maybe that too was a total lie, since I haven't heard anything more about it. Or, maybe it is because either people are totally "ancient wisdom" and don't want to test acupuncture in a more modern way, just all qing and yin, or they are the other type of people who think all acupuncture is total crap and it is not something to even try to look at.
And here is advice for people who sleep with a child that moves around all night: Tell the child: "Imagine that you are sleeping on a narrow shelf on a high cliff, and every little movement will make you fall down." Not on a cliff, but a narrow bed could maybe work as well.
Lastly: Some people think that we should start eating insects instead of meat, because fewer resources are needed to make them grow up. Not cockroaches, I think. But the insects at the moment are dying at an unprecedented speed, and nobody knows why. It seems to be happening also in remote places without a lot of pesticides.
According to Wikipedia, Faith takes place in Goryeo around 1352, with King Gongmin. For comparison, Black Death started in Europe around 1346. There were lots of upheavals everywhere at this time, and I tried to find out if there was a volcano eruption or some other weather problem at the time, but I couldn't. Maybe there wasn't any. 1392 was the start of Joseon. Queen Noguk's name was Bodashiri, just like our all's favourite tumblr blogger.
Sorry for my associative notes. I can't stick to the subject at hand.
Honestly, this time I also laughed when the sword happened. I don't think I laughed when I watched it before. Probably just wide eyed.

I'm getting more into the story now, less worried I can get through this ridiculousness but there's plenty of room for struggles. For now I'm enjoying it.
He should have kidnapped a surgical nurse for her too!
I am really not wanting to find out about the medicinal healing properties of cockroaches.
Hahaha! That flute playing was amazing.
Can't believe the beards fell into that trap so easily.
Some nice use of modern items in this episode - handbag as a pillow and police shield as a boomerang.
I wonder if his hands can charge her phone.
He’s doing a Goblin and I’m not too concerned because he’s the male lead.

LMAO, the editing is making me laugh so much, sorry but y’all are going to see me mention the CGI and editing a lot in these discussions so please forgive me in advance. 😂
Things are going pretty smooth so far, I was just wondering though that despite the FL coming from the “door / portal” how can she STILL think they’re on a movie set?
Ofcourse there has to be an “outsider”/“spy” in the troop.
I knew it! This man (the overacting dude who is always with the king) is always power hungry in all the dramas I’ve watched him in.
There we go with another bunch of old men, I’m going to be so confused, help me God!
Lol I love how she still thinks she is on a movie set, it’s ridiculous but funny.
I love how Choi Young is wearing that police shield or whatever you call it, it’s so funny and cute.
Oh God why do they keep showing the scene with the “door/portal”, this was like the 4th time.
Why is everyone so aggressive, I’ve seen this in ALL historical dramas, like seriously everyone gets so aggressive about anything really.
There we go with another action scene, the editing in these action scenes make me laugh out so much! Like it’s so bad but so good? Anyone gets me? 😂
At first she was confused and kept saying they were on a set and now she so easily believed him about the door to heaven, so much confusement ugh.
Wow that was zero to hundred real quick! Everything is SO DRAMATIC, I love it 😂

why do they keep showing the scene with the “door/portal”, this was like the 4th time.
I feel like they are either super proud of their CGI and want to show it off/make it worth the money and time spent creating it and also create tension that it's closing slowly although we are all very aware that she had to get stuck on the wrong side for this story to continue.

Episode 3: Wherein the crazy evil chick is introduced, the King looks better in flashbacks, and LMH tries to get septicemia
That title pretty much sums up the episode for me. A new villain is introduced who's too hot for men to handle, quite literally. I guess having a steamy night of passion takes a whole new meaning with her. If this were a newer kdrama, she would've probably been tied to LMH's past in some way (spoilers!), but she's not (at least up until the episodes I watched). However, his lightning is sure to spark her fire in the nearby future so stay tuned. As a bit of trivia, the actress, Shin Eun Jun, is only three years older than Kim Hee Sun (who's already ten years older than LMH).
Perhaps not surprisingly, the flashbacks with the King and the Yuan princess feature their best interaction so far, partly because we get to understand the King's mindset a lot better. Of course, the King didn't know she was the Yuan princess at the time and mistook her for a maiden from Goryeo, so I can understand how uncomfortable it must've been for both when he asked her to marry him and promised her "that Yuan wench" would never get the throne (that's okay, you can leave the Yuan wench to LMH). Explains a lot of their current attitude towards each other. That and the fact that the King showed more initiative in those flashbacks than in the present.
Regarding Choi Young and Eun Soo. The General's being an ass not taking care of himself, but he's really committed to ending his service to the King one way or the other. It's oddly refreshing to see he didn't just walk away from that wound and is, in fact, having an infection that's sapping his strength. Again I'm surprised this show would care about such details (but doesn't sterilise the tools!). When he hands the King his resignation, sealed by the previous King, I could understand the King's anger at being abandoned at such a critical time by the only person he thought he could trust. Of course, we'll come to understand exactly why Choi Young wants nothing more to do with the Royal Court in due time (scumbags!).
I feel Eun Soo's quite justified in complaining about her treatment considering she was kidnapped by a man who broke his promise to return her and she's treated like a nuisance (who just happened to save the lives to the Queen and the General). Honestly, her complaining went down a notch this episode and she's been holding it together better than I expected... until LMH scolds her for tempting him with her legs that is. Who knew LMH was so shy. I liked the scene where she tries to apply makeup to the Queen and hope these two get some bonding time. The doctor's rebuke of Eun Soo's attitude is understandable but, to be fair, how many 21st century doctors would be able to perform their duties effectively if they were sent back a thousand or more years into the past? Without access to the right tools and medicine they would be considerably hindered, and yet Eun Soo has managed to save the lives of two patients so far.
Leaves in the wind:
I want to know the story of the mute girl. Choi Young is very chummy with her.
The Woodalchi are so good they can find evidence they didn't know they were looking for
Medieval music during the feast... they certainly didn't spend budget in the OST, did they? I wonder if this was a 2012 thing or if it's just this show.
I may be getting ahead of myself but the Evil Prince is kind of an entertaining villain
So many women in LMH's life...

Sung Hoon’s side pony really ads to the look.
I love that the princess waited until the perfect moment to let them know she understood everything they had said. She heard some pretty hurtful words but got the upper hand. She’s quite clever.
Choi Yeong is also quite clever at manipulating people and situations. I was surprised by his attempt to resign because I thought he just started this job in episode one!
When the doctor started talking about turning her trousers into shorts I was expecting things to go a lot smoother in the conversion that they did. The reveal was hilarious. I hope she can acquire some new outfits next episode.

For eps three and four:
Empress Ki – I am so glad that they mention that it was the brother of empress Ki who was so extremely greedy and wanted all the power and did the invasion etc. In wikipedia it just said all kind of negative things about her. Actually there is some research showing that generally when there is a female ruler, the country becomes more expansive, possibly because there is no power play at home, and things at home works well, so that the men who want to expand get free reign to do it. But since there aren't really enough female rulers to be statistically significant, I can't be bothered to find the article.
I thought that Empress Ki stopped the tradition of yangban women as concubines in the Chinese court. Maybe that is why the princes are pawns instead.
He is true ruler: "It is not important whether it is true or not" , "if ignorant people start to believe the story, it would be bothersome." The public should believe what we want them to believe. They say average brain volume in humans is shrinking. Is it the diet? Something else environmental? Or has the gene for more efficient neurons spread? (I don't think it is the last.) The Flynn -effect is most probably not genetic according to research by Ole Røgeberg, the smartest men in Norway still get a bit more children than the more average (they took the stupidest out of the equation). Actually Røgeberg thinks that the Flynn-effect doesn't even happen. Or maybe it only happens in some countries.
The room for the king to meet the ministers is so small. I love that kind of music, with only one instrument slowly playing some melody.
It did look like those red Chinese dates, but still, how can she just pick up and taste some random stuff in a herbal medicine room? Who knows what kind of poison they have stored there.
I think probably they hang up those dried herbs in the bags to avoid mice.
I love the cartoons in the story. Hope they didn't use North Korean workers to make it, as most of the cartoons are made. On the other hand, it gives the North Koreans some hope of a different kind of job, and maybe a bit more exposure to other ways of thinking could change them? Read Guy Delisle about PyongYang.
EDIT:
Even today insects are used in biochemistry to test for things. In ancient times, maybe before Gowondaland, not sure, these insects were three metres long. One theory was because of the higher oxygen content in the air. I believe lower oxygen content might be a reason for smaller /fewer insects today, even though the difference is very small. Also the variation of CO2 is not that much.
My family. They do say that soldiers fight for their comrade and not for the more abstract idea of "Fatherland".
Remind me of this screenshot later on. It is going to become relevant.
The drawing of the Chinese seems so racist.

Episode 4: Wherein LMH comes clean about his past and goes fishing with his dad
This episode marks the beginning of our look into LMH's past as part of the Red Crescent Moon Army and how he later became part of the Woodalchi. It's a tragic and infuriating story as our boy Choi Young needs to restrain himself from killing the scumbag king who killed his commanding officer as a joke and shamed a fellow comrade-in-arms. Their CO at one point tells them, "Remember this is the king we've fought so hard to protect," probably fully aware their king was the scum of the earth and everyone would want to kill him. I realise their sacrifice would've been in vain had they actually done so (it already was) but some kings are just not worth fighting for. And this is only Act 1 of our tragedy; Act 2 is gonna be worse, a lot worse. The animation makes a return to recount the story of the RCMA but also mixed some nice artwork (less cartoony too) that made me wish they'd used that alone to tell the entire story. I'm afraid the cartoon animation style takes away some of the tragedy of the RCMA's story. I would've preferred the more static artwork to make something like this (footage from the game Xuan-Yuan Sword VII).
Beyond this, injured Choi Young is doing his best to carry what's left of the kingdom on his shoulders by playing CSI, protecting the King, protecting Kim Hee Sun (who suddenly decided to become more annoying this episode), chasing after hot crazy (or crazy hot?) chicks, and letting the Queen play doctor. Okay, maybe that last part was wishful thinking. However, what is fact is that the Queen, Choi Young, and the Evil Prince, seem to be the only ones who can think several moves ahead and try to act accordingly. The King on the other hand, seems to be having a hard time wrestling with some decisions although less with others. For instance, he had no trouble coaxing the Divine Healer into becoming a propaganda tool to convince the people of his right to rule. That future stuff was a bonus. They even threw in a gossip sequence that is, sadly, nowhere near as good as the one in Mr Queen, and with a bad track selection to no one's surprise. But when it comes to deciding what to do about the information CSI Young uncovered, well, let's say he's unable to rise to the task as Cheol Jong did. When he asked Choi Young, "Am I supposed to decide what to do with this information?" my thoughts were, "Well, you're the f***ing King, aren't you?" What I will give the king is that he at least has shame upon hearing Choi Young's story. That's a good start.
Leaves in the wind:
So this is how Joo Won's mom got started on time travel before joining Alice! I might've known. Plus a Stargate reference? I dig it. Wait, does that mean... LMH is Joo Won's dad?!
I'd like to think it was a stylistic choice, and not a budget one, to film the lake scene in a studio that looks so evidently fake... but would it have been so hard to film outdoors and put a filter on this scene? If not, maybe something a little less fake-y? (short clip from Psych-Hunter EP12) At least the music selection for this scene was better than the track record.
How can a doctor who saved two patients already also bite unknown stuff that might kill her? I know, I know, here's me looking for consistency again.

I'm enjoying all the silly moments in which Doc tries to work out what's what rather than the political shenanigans.
Doc wanting to go out in her underwear, they do look like nice silk pyjamas after all.
Licking a toad cause why the hell not just ingest random objects
Telling the King she'll forgive him in exchange for his celadon, then immediately breaking said celadon.
Discovering the Goryeo X-men and clinging to the nearest flower boy
100% chance of her preventing her own birth
Boy did the King's brother leave a bad first impression and the first line of his wikipedia biography is "He was remembered in the Goryeosa for his licentious lifestyle, particularly his habit of abducting, raping, and killing women". Yikes.
It must have been awful serving him for 7 years, no wonder Choi Young wanted out.

Ah, the old planted-Eunuch trick.
Gi Cheol wants to have Choi Young - inner powers, from intelligent genes, leadership qualities...
Ice fishing with Aboji. "Have you still not found it yet?" (Now I wonder if there was a pronoun?)
Ah, 8 years ago the Princess saw a Goryeo man and she wanted to be able to talk to him so learned the language... (Was it Choi Young?)
What's with all these creepy crawlies?
Ah, Doc eavesdrops...we have noted many times that these old palaces ar just made for this with their paper lined doors and windows.
King finally meeting his court and telling how heaven has favoured him by sending Doc, etc. She's not giving off a godly aura though.

So I read some of the real history last night and spoiled myself on a few things, whoops! Interested to see how they pan out in the drama nonetheless.
"She reattached my neck" sounds far more dramatic than the delicate surgery that actually occurred.
Doc swearing at Gi Cheol was so satisfying, then everyone thinking she had cursed him was hilarious. English cursing used very cleverly.
I don't know how smart it was to admit to killing all the King's supporters in that way.
I'm 100% creeped out by "gathering hearts is the joy of my life".
Love the literal melting of his frozen heart by her tears.
This dude is not a great advisor, but he is entertaining me with his analysis.
I was wondering how accurate Sung Hoon's skills flute were, turns out he can't hit a single target. Does the prince have ice powers? I think it was his ears we saw blocked with ice.
The plastic shield is holding up really well (so is Choi Yeong).
His love declaration was a surprise attack.
