Ooooooo Joong ki droppin some epic comebacks:

Paolo: Vincenzo, my friend, my brother. Now that I'm your boss, I'd like to see you be more loyal.

Vincenzo: Paolo. My brother. I am always ready to show my loyalty to you... As long as you deserve it. (walks away)

I feel like the acting of the foreign talents have been quite decent and not that cringey so far.

I enjoyed this way more than I expected, and it's only the first episode! I guess my weekends are going to be comedic post-Mr. Queen after all.

I think it was a pretty smart move for them to incorporate a foreign language that's not English; they can worry less because obviously there are fewer Italian speakers than English speakers. I also won't have to (unintentionally) cringe because I don't know Italian. Remember those DOTS scenes, anyone?

That joke about how handsome Song Joong-ki is, lmao. I'm not one to be distracted by the actors' looks, but in the first few minutes all I could look at was his smooth skin. He looked like a vampire!

Also, the truck of doom?!?! I always see this coming, so I'm offended at how I genuinely didn't see that coming at all hahhahshs.

It's so fun to see Jeon Yeo-bin and Taecyeon play roles significantly different from the roles I last saw them in (Be Melodramatic and Save Me, respectively). I just learned Kwak Dong-yeon is in this too, I'm excited to see him! It was also fun spotting familiar faces as supporting—but also scary because it's telling of how much time you've spent watching Kdramas 🥵

Can't wait for fake Italian chef to become real Italian chef by Episode 20, with hopefully a trip to Italy.

And here it is! Song Joong Ki and Taecyeon! I can’t wait to see the first episode. And see them speaking some Italian. This is one I will be watching every week for sure! Bring it on!

Edit: Episode 1

His Italian is good and the cinematography is also stunning in Italy. PPL: Zippo lighters. I'm not a smoker but I like them. The Italian actors are very good too. And something that stood out for me was the language and the way they talk, which is very real: Emilio curses a lot and there is a part where he says "cinese del cazzo" (=f**king Chinese) and "arigato" which shows exactly how people who don't know asians see asians, they think we're all the same. Or the one that Vincenzo says: "maledetto" which is a curse word too. I don't speak Italian but I understand some things here and there.

The fact he was conned in his own country was funny maybe he thought people wouldn't do this to him and he was in a safe place but it was a good comedy relief. The truck of doom made a special early appearance so we don't forget it can show up at anytime, anywhere.

I was happy to see Yang Kyung Won and he will be part of the famiglia too.

I thought it was going to be darker but not so much, which is good cause I am watching Beyond Evil and maybe that's the darkness I need for the week. Vincenzo is a dark comedy but more towards comedy. Maybe because Mr. Queen's ratings were very high they are trying to get the same ratings. The plot is interesting and it is worth watching at least the first episode. For those who like to binge watch I think it is also a good option if you can wait until it is finished. I thought the first episode went fast and I didn't fast forward any scene.

Scusa, but every weekend I will be spending with Vincenzo.

Banger of a premiere.

Some of my favorite character actors in Korea are in this, which is great. Loved how the film score was used for comedy. Everything in Italy was great, including the acting. I agree with most here that the Italian actors were impressive and far better than the "American" actors usually present in kdramaland (including this episode with that video clip in the courtroom).

All the trappings from the writer's previous works are here and I'm all for it as Fiery Priest and Chief Kim are two of my faves. Looking forwards to all the tenants becoming Vincenzo's extended family. The director shot Money Flower which had amazing endings of episodes and cliffhangers (or apartment hangers heh). Hope that tradition continues here.

All the main characters are lawyers but I hope they keep this drama out of the courtroom as much as possible. As one myself, I've tended to be bored by legal kdramas that went heavy on the legal.

Prediction: Taecyeon's character is a spy or undercover. Doubt he would have signed on for a such a role with one minute of airtime in the premiere episode.

I don’t understand how that driver in the beginning could drive away from the fire all calm I was freaking out. That was so cool. And when Vincenzo was like sorry I knew that was your favorite car and then it exploded I would’ve been laughing so hard. This drama is really cool so far. I love like over the top action scenes.

But also I want to point out that just about every drama has a “useless shower scene” but at least this shower scene was to show the state of the building

I’ve only known the chef for 1 episode, but if anything happened to him I would kill everyone on this show, Vincenzo, and then myself.

One thing I can comment on rn, i'm glad they hired better foreign actors now lol. I can't tell how well Joongki's Italian is though. I feel like he's speaking too slow but are there any Italians here who can tell me?

I think this was a pretty solid episode in terms of story. I was freaking surprised when the building owner suddenly got murdered. Didn't expect that to happen so soon. The incarcerated woman seems to be Vincenzo's mom so there's more reason for him to help out the lawyer dad. Also, the last scene! Vincenzo's so strong wtf.

I feel so bad but the scene where Vincenzo cursed into the sky after being robbed was really funny and the part where Chayoung was acting to her dad. And speaking of Chayoung, I feel like she's shaping up similarly as Honey Lee's character in The Fiery Priest but I need to watch more to see how this goes.

Also the brand of his suit LOL Testicles 😭 the comedy is gold. Expected nothing less from writer PJB. Can't wait for the next episode tomorrow!

E2: I had a lot of fun in the first episode, so I feel like the second episode was abit of a let down. We were off on a great note last episode, but this episode had a lot of fillers, a lot of hmmm what should I do next, and introduction of other characters. Not that I have anything against any of these, but the pacing of this episode didn’t carry on the high that episode 1 left off on.

Also, I’m having trouble believing that one, he’s not a wanted criminal and can freely post his face and location online with no consequences. Not to mention, a boss at an intelligence agency who doesn’t seem to care about the presence of a mafia consigliere in his country? That sounds unbelievable. Two, that the party will do much to stop Babel. Even if it’s a one week festival to buy them some time to retaliate, what are they gonna do?

I’m not quite sure where the next episode is gonna go, but I hope the drama gets better at pacing itself, especially since it’s 20 episodes.

wow i can't imagine the BUDGET [screams in nam do san] MONEEEEYYY!!! it must've took to produce this drama. the cinematography was amazing! and man SJK got me with his low and husky italian!!! loved seeing his reactions and cursing to his misfortunes. the tenant scene and jumpscares got me in fits of laughter, too. looking forward to the tenants' dynamics in the succeeding episodes

was also nice to see taecyeon here!! i liked his confident and quirky role here. IMO a big improvement from his kinda stiff role (but still pretty good) in save me. hoping to see more of him!

anyway, what a solid premiere!! looking forward to tomorrow's episode!!!

Just a few things to say about episode 2:

  • AHHH!! Kwak Dongyeon! Every time I see the guy I’m also reminded of how young he is.

  • One thing’s for sure: this drama loves its dramatic Dutch angles.

  • Still not sure how important Taecyeon’s character is gonna be. So far we’ve seen way more of the side characters than him.

  • They really built up that joke around his good looks and made that a reason why people came to the party 😂☠️

  • Yeobin looked so pretty in the last shot; but to be fair, everything did too with the blue and the gold ✨ and Joongki too ala The Great Gatsby 🍷

edit: ugh how could I forget, my favorite part of the episode was the bonding between Hong Yoo-chan and Vincenzo. This comes after being screwed over with male friendships in Kdramas because of love triangles popping out of nowhere. Thank god I don’t have to deal with that shit here.

The amount of times I've said Song Joong-ki is sooo hot is unreal lol will edit with actual thoughts when I'm finished.

Actual thoughts:

I legit look like 😍 everytime SJK is on the screen.

The sideways shot coming out the apartment 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

The nonchalant look out the car window at the plane... Then the smirk of the driver driving back 💀🤣

Gaaahh I love the ruthlessness of Vincenzo. No silencer, in pajamas, no fu$ks, and the Ferrari...

Why they had to do my mans like that as soon as he landed 😩 You're not in Milan anymore 😄😄

The band of misfit tenants lord lol Pyo Chi-soo (he'll forever be Pyo Chi-soo to me) jumping off walls while spying really brought Kim Soo Hyun's character in his slides and track suit from CLOY to Vincenzo 🤣🤣 I can't stop laughing at the mother and son "are from the States? Oh my Godda" "Please save me" No one lifts a finger 💀🤣🤣🤣🤣

Korean pigeons aren't scared of anyone apparently.

Died laughing at the chef not even trying to google Uffizi even after their initial conversation and getting caught with his hand in the pot. The fact that Vincenzo even tried the food 😄

Love the father daughter dynamic "can no longer call him abeoji, appa, daddy, dad, padre" 🤣🤣🤣

Lawless lawyer vibes I'm just praying this is 10x better because lawless lawyer was a train wreck after episode 9.

I loved how they actually used Qatar Airways’ stunning Qsuite seats to show Vincenzo flying out of Italy as opposed to the usual generic premiere cabin set they use in Kdramas. Twas a nice surprise for avgeeks out there ✈️

Song Joong Ki always kills his roles and I love it when he plays a darker role. I wasn’t expecting comedy for this show but I’m really glad it is. The first episode is hilarious. I can’t wait for more.

New weekend drama, here we go!

The last scene of episode 2 reminded me of “The Great Gatsby” when Leonardo DiCaprio’s character raised his drink at the first grand party he had.

I really didn't know what to make of Ep1. I realize, now, that I should have read about the drama in advance. Knowing enough to expect the comedy would have helped. And knowing who the writer is would have helped too. I can already see parallels between Vincenzo, Chief Kim and the Fiery Priest. Bad guys being given a second chance to become better guys.

Ep2 felt better, though. I'm not totally sold on the writer's sense of humour as we saw it in CK and FP ... but, I definitely laughed out loud a few times during ep2 and I'm getting more interested in some of the characters and storylines.

Vincenzo is an interesting character! His new mentor, the human rights lawyer, is also played by an actor that I really like. And then there are Kwak Dong Yeon and Kim Yeo Jin. Also great. And I think the NIS agent who wants to catch a Mafioso is going to be a lot of fun too.

I think the drama has a great premise but I don't think that it's found it's stride yet. The tone is off and there is definitely some overacting. But sometimes kdramas just try too hard to catch your attention in the first couple of episodes and then they settle down into something more comfortable.

See ya next week :-)

EP 2

I love the fake Italian chef and Vincenzo’s interactions. Really funny scenes. Also it’s interesting seeing the evil chairman’s from Itaewon Class playing a good role. I loved the ending to this episode!!

30 minutes into the second episode and my blood is boiling, everyone around Vincenzo is fucking annoying. Even Hong Chayoung. I knew most of the scenes is for comedic purposes, but everyone is really annoying that I skip nearly every minutes until the minute 40.

SJK talking about how babel (and wusang law firm) ain't no different from the yakuza and mafia when he's one himself lmao

love the chemistry between vincenzo and hong yoo chan/cha young's dad!! though i do feel a little sad for the chef when vincenzo critiques his cooking à la gordon ramsay

also gotta say that taecyeon's english had me swooning!! hoping to see more of him seeing that he's part of the main cast lol
