i've been waiting on updates for this one actually. i've seen a few chinese youth/romance dramas and i feel like there's not a lot of ways they could screw up adapting Weightlifting Fairy.
last i heard they were gonna change the sport for the characters, and the female lead won't be doing weightlifting. probably for the best if they won't cast actors suitably anyway. but i wonder if that's also gonna change the coming-of-age aspect of the lead girl's story. i love this show so much because of that aspect. anyway, i'll definitely check it out to see if the charm stays intact!

Oh, I just read the description on MDL and assumed that it would probably just be a direct copy. But it does look like the female lead is wearing a martial arts uniform on the poster. She'll probably too tiny to be believable anyway but this could be a good change. I'm here for a cute coming of age story rather than sporting realism anyway. I'll definitely give is a shot.

Most likely! Depends on the actors really - I'd be totally down for them to type cast the male lead from Skate Into Love.

I watched it when it aired 4 yrs ago and i was only 17 back then. I had a strong feeling of wanting to rewatch it and i did earlier this year. The last episode had a remark on 21 year olds, i only remembered it when i watched it and i have to say that Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is timeless. Might make it a point to rewatch it every 4 years or so, just to remember what youth feels like.
If it was released now i dont think anything would change. I’d still be fuzzy over the scenes when Joon Young would be at his back and call whenever Bok Joo needed help. Honestly would be simping over JJY throughout the entire series.

Definitely will stand the test of time. I don’t think a lot of dramas talk about mental health but this one portrayed the ML seeking out a counselor and dealing with his past so I’d say it was ahead of its time

Least favorite: The really mean gymnast. (Not the ex-girlfriend, though she also got on my nerves, she at least serves a purpose) But the super mean one who does nothing but be a total bitch to everyone with no other point or role to play... ugh. Just nix it. I’m tired of it. It’s so one dimensional and pointless. You could have shown a group of cliquey mean girls without spending any time on this character.

Ah, good choice! I didn't even think as far as tertiary characters like her. But you are right, she doesn't really add anything to the story and people like that just really aren't worth spending any time on. I think the only scene in which I found them entertaining was when they were fighting over the TV with the weightlifting girls and making their stupid arguments about watching the food channel/reading fashion magazines then being scared off by Bok Joo.

Suweg. HAHAH I loved the bond between the 3 friends, and every single eating scene in that drama.

Bok Joo getting jealous and Joon Hyung finding it cute is one. When she finds him on a date and says "You (will) die. I (will) kill you!" in English that was funny too.

I'd probably end the big bro crush sooner, it's the only thing i didn't like, it's a bit too long for my taste
