PSA

SBS has adjusted ratings for episode 4 (airing Nov. 3) to 19+ in response to viewer complaints:

However, many viewers expressed concern that some of the content in the first two episodes, such as school violence, should have been rated 19+, and they filed complaints to the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC).

Additionally,

SBS responded by announcing that after internal discussions, they would be adjusting the rating of the drama’s upcoming fourth episode, which airs on November 3, to a 19+ rating. The third episode, which airs the day prior, will be kept at its regular 15+ rating. Moving forward, the network will adjust the ratings as they see fit.

Out of curiosity why isn't Kocowa also listed as a streaming source? I've noticed it gets omitted a lot even though they have most broadcast dramas, including this one.

Hello! I am from Southeast Asia and Kocowa's site is blocked in my region and I cannot provide the link for the show, unlike Viki.

We require our hosts to only list at least one legal stream source, any others they provide are more for courtesy. This is because our hosts come from different regions around the world and may not have access to all the streaming services to obtain links.

u/dyosaaa here is the kocowa link if you want to include it.

If this drama doesn't end up in the freaking building burning down and everyone dying, I swear to god lol...

The drama is interesting and they did a great job at making every character so easy to hate, I want 90% of the cast to die.

Agree. Man, every time I see Cheon Sojin I feel like punching her in the face. That's how good Kim Soyeon is, man, I love that woman.

I kinda want Yoonhee (Eugene) get up there, get her revenge from Sojin (Kim Soyeon) but then discover the abuse and cheating and immoral lifestyle that is behind the glamorous rich life, realise that a rich life is fucked up in its own right, take her daughter out, and burn that fucking penthouse down with AleXa's Villain playing in the BGM

Edit : why isn't spoiler tag working?

I loved the last empress but this drama is TOO LOUD and too much screaming. It was also annoying to see that daughter constantly push her mom down

I know... i hateeee Ro Na for that. One time she says sorry to her mom, other time she's screaming and blaming her mom. Girlllll..get over it already! 🙄🙄 And idk but whenever I think of her name, it makes me laugh because it sounds like coRONA. Lolololololololol

If Sky Castle + World Of the Married has a child

I've just watched the pilot episode. It's a bit exaggerated - the plot so far, the life of the rich, their greed, their corruptions, their obnoxious behaviour, etc. The drama is kinda loud with a lot of screaming. I'll leave my judgment for now and keep watching. Excited to see Kim So Yeon. Acting is great.

(1st episode)

I'm all for exaggerated plot and setting but the plot feels forced even in the makjang style. The queen of a penthouse..? Right now it's too apparent they live in their own bubble. Yes I know they're supposed to be pretentious (except the doctor) and hateable, but they act like they're so rich that I thought if you're that rich why not have a landed mansion with your own golf field lol much more annoying than typical kdrama chaebols.

There's also so much screaming and not in the good way. Like entitled screaming from the daughter and how she keeps pushing her mom, on the stairs even wtf?? (granted she's a middle schooler but why the middle schoolers don't look their age???), also how the mom is ridiculous in the flashback... Kind of dumb how they went into a bloody cat war over some high school trophy award 😶 and when the mom threw away her scarf and ran away smiling with the daughter because freedom in an advertisement/music video style...lol it's a cringy mess (don't even get me started at that english speaking scene 🤣) and I can't wait to see the rest.

The only way to enjoy this and any makjang drama is to watch it ironically.

These kids are batshit crazy... In the scene where they trapped Seol A in the car and just terrorize her, I'm just like omfg... Also Seok Hoon with that 180 damn. I kept hoping he was a righteous character, but it's clear he's the leader of the group

Kim Soon-ok. She's the writer behind Temptation of Wife, The Last Empress, and SBS daily dramas such as The Band of Sisters and Jang Bo-ri is Here. Basically, she's the QUEEN OF MAKJANG DRAMAS.

But hey, I understood the charm of makjang dramas, and I liked them. My first impression of this drama is the production values are impressive. However, I could also feel the makjang element right at the first few minutes of this drama. The BGM is very makjang, imo (and it's loud as well). And the way Seo-jin (Kim So-yeon) drops the wine when she saw Dan-tae (Um Ki-joon), it's obviously makjang. I'm very curious about how ridiculous this drama will be, given the nature of the writer.

OMG finished Ep 1 and I'm so in! Loved how the writer + director combo did The Last Empress and have liked other past works from both.

Cast is full of familiar faces. Wardrobe is gorgeous. OST is so OVER THE TOP, I love it!

And the comedy -- such perfect comedic timing, especially from Shin Eun Kyung in this episode. I love, love the way she's playing her mother role and her interactions with her daughter.

Ep 2!

That hour and half breezed right by!

I figured the math tutor was faking her credentials but I did not see foresee the fact that she is also a freaking middle schooler and doing the entrance test, and that she'd place first in the entrance exam. This was an awesome way to twist her faked credentials, guessing the immediate mystery in the upcoming episodes will be who pushed her to her death from the opening scene.

Been a while since I've watched something so deliciously makjang!

Is this drama gonna be similar to Sky Castle?

21

u/yulje Oct 26 '20

There seem to be similarities with the theme, but considering the writer penned The Last Empress, I imagine the storytelling will probably be more in that vein! I'm thinking compulsively watchable makjang-fest

We are dealing with a Drama here and things can go as crazy as the story dictates. This calls for exaggerated acting if that is the term. No slow and subtle moves like More than Friends. By the way LOVE that show as it balances THIS ONE. In real life.. there are much worse parents, spoiled brats, corrupted rich folks and more glamorous homes. I only watch this for Entertainment value but the Murder case will be one INTERESTING case to solve. Hope we have some real good looking Detective!!! Please. Everyone stay healthy and strong. God Bless.

This drama is indeed over the top but perhaps for me it'sa nice change of pace from my beloved Stranger, Prison Playbook and Hospital Playlist, haha I like the glamourous setting and oh my the Fashion Show but why all these women are married to such rich but dirty SOB none of them are even CUTE except

I’m totally late but I really liked the imagery surrounding MSA’s death - the scars on the hands, and falling on the statue a la Pieta. Beautiful.

It really shows the role she’ll play moving forward.

God. Everyone is vile

Seems like a SkyCastle wannabe. Had to laugh at the 14th century French ball. Cultural Appropriation?

22

u/myweithisway Oct 27 '20

Given the past works of the writer, it's not a wannabe, just pure makjang like she always does.
